Recognition of our youth as they take on adult roles in the community are far too often overlooked, or left unnoticed. Such would have been the case for the selfless actions of South Ripley Raider senior Mike Harris, a volunteer member of the Friendship Volunteer Fire Department.
When a fellow competitor at the 14th annually held South Dearborn High School Cross Country meet needed assistance while enduring an asthma related attack, Harris immediately reacted to retrieve equipment from a fellow fire dept. volunteer's truck.
So often we hear of the negative actions of our young people and dwell on those. It leaves us very proud to be able to acknowledge these positive actions by a responsible young man.

South Ripley Lady Raiders vs. OA Lady Twisters
The South Ripley Lady Raider varsity soccer team went on the road to face battle against the Oldenburg Academy Lady Twisters on Wednesday, September 18.
Unfortunately for the Lady Raiders, they fell 1-4 at games end. South Ripley's statistician report revealed that the Twisters dominated most of the clock in both halves. Limited shooting opportunities for the Lady Raiders found them with the only shot at goal in the first half and two shots in the second half.
Taking the Lady Raider shots were Emily Cumberworth and Marcela Foster. Emily Cumberworth scored with a Carah Beck assist in the second half at the 21:58 mark.
Oldenburg Academy got off 26 shots with 16 on goal during the first half and followed with 19 shots and 12 on goal in the second half.
Lady Raider senior goalie Hayley Fossett had to work hard in the goal, making 23 saves in the match to keep OA from scoring even more.
South Ripley Lady Raiders vs. South Dearborn Lady Knight JV
On Thursday evening, September 19, the SR girls varsity team traveled to South Dearborn to play the SD JV soccer team.
South Ripley suffered another loss with a final score of 0-3. Even with a second loss in as many days, Coach Clippert found positivity in his team's effort compared to the Oldenburg Academy match. Ball possession time was nearly equal for both teams.
In the first half SD scored off a direct kick at 12:03 for 1-0. With just under three minutes passing in second half action, a Raider penalty on a handball in the box by Lindsay Comer gave the Knights a penalty kick to which they added a goal to go up 2-0.
Play was stopped at 13:49 in the second half due to a Halie Brison ankle injury, which took her out of the game. The third and last SD goal came with 11:44 on the game clock.
The Lady Knights had five shots in the first half and nine in the second half. SR had four shots in the first half and added 12 shots in the second. Seven of those were on goal.
SR players taking shots were: Carah Beck, Kyana Clippert, Ellie Ayers, Marcela Foster, Emily Cumberworth, and Kelsey Cumberworth.
