Charles Eugene Block
Charles Eugene Block, 81, of Dillsboro, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2013 at his home following a long illness. “Charley”, as he was known in the community, was the fifth child of eight children born to Horace (Bud) and Maude Block.
Charley graduated from Dillsboro High School, and lived on a small farm west of Dillsboro, and the balance of his life in Dillsboro proper. In August of 1949 he joined the US Navy and served until 1953. He served during the Korean Conflict, making two complete trips to Korea. He was a member of the American Legion, Korean War Veterans Assoc. and 40 & 8. He was a 50-year member of the Dillsboro Masonic Lodge, Murat Shrine of Indianapolis and the South Eastern Shrine Club of Indiana.
On June 19, 1954 he was united in marriage to Martha Meyer, and she preceded him in death on December 27, 2008. Charley loved to hunt and fish with his father, and they enjoyed many outings together. Later he took up golfing and enjoyed doing this with his friends for many years. His favorite past-time was spending time with his wife and daughters. He was a member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Dillsboro, where he served as deacon, elder, and treasurer for several years. Charley was clerk treasurer for the town of Dillsboro during the time when the town hall was constructed along with the present firehouse.
He was also a member of the Dillsboro Town Board in later years. He was employed at Fernald Ohio (FMPC) for 40 plus years, and later years of his life, breathing all of the toxic materials at Fernald. He lived on oxygen and had a very limited inactive social life from lung diseases from this environment. His daughter and family was his mainstay in taking care of him during his later years.
Charley is survived by his loving daughter, Melissa (Dale) LaFollette of Aurora; one grandson, Jason Charles LaFollette; sisters, Esther Levi of Aurora, Dorothy Jewett of Dillsboro, Mary Keiffer of Versailles, and Carolyn Hollins of Middletown, OH; and one brother, Richard Block of Ft. Wayne.
He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Melody Block in 2000, his sister, Vivian Cash in 2009, and his brother, Louis Block in 2005. Charley also leaves behind his loving dog, “Jose”, who will miss him terribly.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 24, at 11 a.m. at DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro, with his friend, Pastor Tom Fehrman officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery with full military rites. The family would appreciate memorials be given to Oakdale Cemetery in Dillsboro in his memory. DeVries Funeral Home, Dillsboro, is in charge of arrangements.
Lisa Ann Cook
Lisa Ann Cook, 51 of Milan, passed away Friday, September 20, 2013 at the Norton Hospital in Louisville, Ky. She was born Saturday, July 14, 1962 in Radcliff, KY, the daughter of John and Carol (Nolan) Steuer. She married Jeff Cook on July 7, 1984, and he survives.
Lisa worked for the Milan School Corporation in the high school cafeteria. She liked traveling with her friends and reading, but her children and grandchildren were her special thing in life.
Lisa is survived by her husband, Jeff Cook of Milan; daughters, Miranda (Lucas) Hart of Oneida, TN, Crystal (Joey) Denton of Anderson, SC, and Jennifer Bear of Batesville; sisters, Kim Hensley of Titusville, FL, Diana (Gene) Worthy of Chesapeake, Virginia and Pam Reese of Milan; and ten grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one great grandchild, Nate.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25 at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan with Pastor Terrance Bledsoe officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday September 24 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Prayers for Lisa Fund at any local UCB Bank.

Lela Heath-Klemm
Lela Heath-Klemm, age 99, a former Dillsboro resident, and Cincinnati resident, passed away Monday, September 16, 2013 in Houston, Texas.
Lela was baptized and attended St. Peters Lutheran Church in Dillsboro, and graduated from Dillsboro High School. While living in Cincinnati, she was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, and its women’s guild.
She retired from McAlpin’s Department Store in Western Hills.
She is survived by a son and his wife, Richard (Elaine) Barbee, of Spring, Texas; two grandchildren; and a brother, Willard Hahn.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 25, at Arlington Memorial Gardens in Cincinnati at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Richard Kolaskey will officiate. Filter-DeVries Funeral Home, Dillsboro, is in charge of arrangements.
Peggy Ruse
Peggy Ruse, 84, of Rexville, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2013 at the King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison. She was born near Bryantsburg in Jefferson County on December 21, 1928, the daughter of Arthur and Lula Adams Housefield. She was married to Earl Ruse on July 11, 1959, and he preceded her in death on May 11, 1989.
Survivors include one son, Bill (Bronwen) Steele of Sydney, Australia; six grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brother Merle Housefield, and her sisters Louise Farrell and Faye Geisler.
Mrs. Ruse was a former employee of RCA in Indianapolis and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Cross Plains Church of Christ.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 26 at 11 a.m. at the Cross Plains Church of Christ with Bro. Logan Fugate officiating. Burial will be in the Shelby Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services. Memorials may be given to the Cross Plains Church of Christ in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home, Versailles.

Louise A. Allen, 92 of Moores Hill, passed away Saturday, September 21, 2013. Funeral services will be Thursday, September 26, at 1 p.m. at Sibbett-Moore Funeral Home, Moores Hill.
