Jac-Cen-Del hosted the 2013 Ripley County girls volleyball tournament on Saturday, Sept. 14.
As slated, opening varsity play in the JCDHS gym found the JCD Lady Eagles in action against the South Ripley Lady Raiders. The Milan Lady Indians would find battle with the Batesville Lady Bulldogs at first game’s completion.
Best of three for the match was also the venue for JV competition, played in JCDES simultaneously. There, the Milan Lady Indians and the Batesville Lady Bulldogs would open the JV competition with SR and JCD to follow.
Winners of the JV openers would play for the title as did the varsity teams, with the resolve being a Lady Bulldog sweep.
SR vs. JCD
GAME ONE
Lady Raider Mercedes Bowling opened game one action for a 2-1 SR lead. Lady Eagle Skila Catron served to ties at two and three before relenting to Lady Raider Sidney Steinhauer, serving to a tie at four.
Lady Eagle Lindsey Sutton served to the tie at five. Lady Raider Kayla King’s serve resulted in the Lady Eagles first lead of the game at 6-5; however, Lady Eagle Shelbie Huffmeyer’s serve returned the game to neutral at a score of six to six.
Lady Raider Ellie Sexton’s serve left JCD with the one point edge at 7-6, before JCD Lady Eagle Dani Newhart served her team to the 14-7 advantage.
Lady Raider Erin Gloyd’s serve resulted in the Lady Eagles 15th point, leading to Lady Eagle Tori Walke serving to 18-8. Hannah Schwarte’s serve for SR resulted in a 19th JCD point.
Lady Eagle Hayley Bruns led her team to a count of 23-9 before relenting service to Hayley Schmaltz. Lady Raider Schmaltz delivered the last two serves of the game, but Lady Eagle Bruns’ spike of the second delivery resulted in a JCD 25-9 game one victory.
GAME TWO for the match
Lady Raiders and Lady Eagles again found tie scores in the second game of the match. Ties were noted at four, five and eight before SR found minimum breathing room up by three at 13-10. Lady Eagle senior Tori Walke knotted the game at 15 before setting her team in the lead.
Lady Eagle Shelbie Huffmeyer delivered the final shot to defeat the Lady Raiders 25-21 for the second game and the match and the right ot play in the championship game.
Milan vs. Batesville
The Milan Lady Indian roster included: Kayla Peetz, Alex Owens, Cheyenne Kern, Hannah Lohrum, Sydney Ross, Emily Fuller, Lindsey Prozanski, Grace Herzog, and Courtney Cann. Injured were Brooklyn Honnert and Kelsey Holbert.
GAME ONE
Lady Indians and Lady Bulldogs faced off for the round two tournament action with the Lady Bulldogs controlling for the game one 25-8 win.
GAME TWO for the match
Lady Bulldogs and Lady Indian action found tie scores in the second game of their match at one, two, three, five and six before the Lady Bulldogs edged their way to the 25-15 victory for a spot in the championship contest against the hosting JCD Lady Eagles.

GAME ONE
Lady Eagle and Lady Bulldog game one found the score knotted at two, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 11, 12 and 13 before the Lady Bulldogs inched themselves away to a 25-15 championship title game one victory.
Championship
GAME TWO for the match
Lady Bulldog dominance became evident in game two of the championship as they busted out of the gate to an explosive 7-2 lead.
As action continued, the Lady Bulldogs pulled to a 12 point advantage at 18-6 before eliminating JCD by the final count of 25-11, securing the varsity championship title for 2013.
