Winona C. Hubbard

Winona C. Hubbard, 94, formerly of Canton, New York, died Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Barathaven Facility in Dardenne Prairie, MO.

Funeral services were held today, Thursday, August 29 at 10 a.m. at the Lawrence Funeral Home in Canton, New York with Rev. Michael P. Catanzaro officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Canton with military honors.

Surviving are her children, W. Sue Broderick (Robert) of North Carolina, Deborah K. Maier (Albert) of MO., Bethany J. Wohlgemuth (John) of CO. and Bruce C. Hubbard (Nancy Newcomb) of Caledonia, NY.; four grandchildren, Timothy Maier of CO., Amy Maier Feeman (William) of Ohio, Edward Wohlgemuth (Rebecca) of NC., and Robert Wohlgemuth (Anna) of Washington State.  Also surviving are four great grandchildren, William and Patrick Feeman and Carter and Reese Wohlgemuth and a number of nieces and nephews.

Her husband Donald (2009), a granddaughter, Karen Beth Wohlgemuth and four brothers, Kermit, Harold, Kenneth and John, Jr. all preceded her in death.

Winona was born August 1, 1919 in Osgood, the daughter of John F. L. and Elizabeth A.C. (Straber) Comer. She was a 1937 graduate of Osgood High School and continued her schooling at the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Indianapolis, graduating in 1940.  In September of 1942 Winona joined the US military and served until December, 1945. She was a valuable part of the US Army Nurse Corps during the European Theatre where she was stationed in Great Britain and France.  She earned the rank of First Lieutenant. On October 14, 1945 she married Donald M. Hubbard in Joplin, MO. The couple was married 63 years.

Prior to her military service she was employed as a registered nurse for hospitals in Scottsburg and Greensburg. She later worked for Lewis County General in Lowville, NY and Canton-Potsdam Hospital in Potsdam, NY. She was also a private duty nurse on occasion.

She was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Napoleon, the First Presbyterian Church of Canton and the Grace Lutheran Church in Winter Haven, Fl. She was most recently a member of the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Chambersburg, PA. She enjoyed being an American Red Cross nurse for 25 years, a leader of 4-H, Boys Scouts in Port Leyden, NY.,  a volunteer for the Lutheran Social Services of Central, PA. She loved sewing and quilting. She won many awards for her quilting ability.
Winona enjoyed RVing, boating, canoeing and gardening. After retirement, she and Don enjoyed wintering in Winter Haven, FL.

Marilyn A. Adams

Marilyn A. Adams, 76, of North Vernon passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at the Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus. She was born in Indianapolis on July 17, 1937 the daughter of Clarence and Rhoda Baker Dilk. She was married to Grover Adams in 1978 and he preceded her in death on October 3, 1991.

Survivors include one daughter Tonya Kelly of Indianapolis; three sons Wesley (Kelley) Roy of Cape Coral, Florida, Von Porter and friend Tammy Stewart of Noblesville, and Robert Porter of North Vernon; six grandchildren and nine  great-grandchildren; three brothers Robert Dilk and friend Alfreda White of North Vernon, William (Melba) Dilk of Indianapolis, and Richard (Darlea) Dilk of Camby.

Her parents, and her brothers Clarence Dilk, Jr., and Donald Dilk also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Adams was a former employee of the Muscatatuck State Developmental Center where she worked in maintenance. She had also worked for RCA in Indianapolis and at the North Vernon Wal-Mart.
Marilyn attended the North Vernon First Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 31 at 10:30 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Don Buck officiating.  Burial will be in the Marble Corner Cemetery at Versailles.
Visitation will be Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Marble Corner Cemetery in care of the funeral home.

Garnet Keith

Garnet Keith of Vevay, Indiana, passed away on August 17, 2013 at the Waters Nursing Home in Rising Sun. She is preceded in death by her husband, Denver Keith; her parents, Robert and Alice Thomas; three brothers, Wilford, J.B., and Lincoln; two sisters, Josie Horner and Ruth Reese. She is also preceded by sons, Otis Wayne Keith and Lonnie Keith.

She is survived by daughters, Dianna Winslow of Vevay, Judith and husband, David Booth, of San Antonio, TX, and Carrie Keith of Lawrenceburg; son, Paul and wife Sharon of Versailles; eight grandchildren, Tammy, Heather, Lonnie Jr., Stephanie, Brian, Dionne, Joshua and Denise; and seven great grandchildren. She is survived by many relatives and friends.

Funeral service and interment will be held on Thursday, August 22 at 10 a.m. at the Vevay Cemetery in Vevay, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Switzerland County Life Squad, contribution cards are available at the funeral home. Roger Carl Marquardt, Sr.

Roger Carl Marquardt Sr., 79 of Napoleon, passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2013 at Columbus Regional Hospital, Columbus. He was born October 22, 1933 in Napoleon, the son of Gustav Paul and Lucille Bodenberg Marquardt. He married Rita Jean Wilder in 1972 and she survives at home.

Other survivors include son, Roger Carl Marquardt, Jr. of Napoleon; daughter, Katrina (Mark) McIntosh of Dillsboro; stepdaughters, Rose Powers of the Flatrock area, Rita May (Bill) Kessler of Shelbyville, Peggy Timberlake (Toby) of Osgood and Karen Palmer of Shelbyville; 11 step grandchildren and 12 step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gustav Paul Marquardt; one brother, Richard Marquardt; and two grandchildren, Mindy and Matt McIntosh.

Mr. Marquardt graduated from Napoleon High School. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Napoleon and was a navy veteran. He was a past employee of Indiana Bell of Indianapolis and of the Ripley County Highway Department. He had been involved with farming.

Visitation will be held Friday, August 23 from 5-8 p.m. at Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 24 at 10 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Napoleon, with visitation at the church from 9-10 a.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the family or South Dearborn Dollars for Scholars in care of the funeral home.

Grover W. Fletcher

Grover W. Fletcher, 73, of Versailles passed away Thursday, August 8, 2013 at the Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville. He was born in Cincinnati on October 24, 1939, the son of George and Elsie Deir Fletcher. He was married to Joyce Campbell on February 4, 1955 and she survives.

Other survivors include two sons David (Tonya) Fletcher of Lawrenceburg and Timothy (Bev) Fletcher of Cincinnati; one daughter Vickie Fletcher of Versailles; 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Sandra Roache, his son Dennis Fletcher, grandsons Matthew Willman, James Willman, and John Anderson, great-grandson Matthew Willman, and his brother Robert Fletcher.

Mr. Fletcher was a 36 year steel worker employee of Crown, Cork, and Seal in Cincinnati. Grover was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan. Funeral services were held on Monday, August 12, at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice.

Bonnie Palmer Smith

Bonnie Palmer Smith, 61, of Florence, Indiana, passed away Sunday, August 18, 2013. Funeral services will be Thursday, August 22 at 1 p.m. at Humphrey-Taylor-Detmer Funeral Home, Rising Sun, with burial in the Greendale Cemetery. Visitation will also be Thursday from 11 a.m. until time of service. Humphrey-Taylor-Detmer Funeral Home, Rising Sun, is in charge of arrangements.

Glen G. Ralston

Glen G. Ralston, 75, Biloxi, Mississippi, formerly of New Marion, passed away July 31, 2013. Private services will be held at a later date.

Gertie Francis

Gertie Francis, 83, of Osgood passed away Monday, August 12, 2013 at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. She was born near Shelbyville on August 14, 1929, the daughter of Benjamin and Geneva Rich Dunbar. She was married to Hubert (Huck) Francis on July 18, 1948 and he survives.

Other survivors include four daughters Gail (John) Bosley of Raleigh, North Carolina, Diana (Dan) Rimstidt of Loveland, Ohio, Cheryl (Ronald) Elff of Fishers, and Joy (Rich) Clark of St. Johns, Florida; five grandchildren Tiffany (Shannon) Dillmore of Raleigh, North Carolina, Devin Elff, Bryce Elff, and Jeremy Clark all of Fishers, and Alex Clark, St. Johns, Florida; one great-grandson Brogan Dillmore.
Her parents and her brother John Dunbar preceded her in death.

Mrs. Francis was a 1946 graduate of Osgood High School and also graduated from the Indiana Business College in Indianapolis. She worked for the Southeastern Indiana REMC in Osgood from 1948 to 1951 and then became a full time homemaker and did seamstress work from her home. Gertie was a member of the Osgood United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 16 at 10:30 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Jenny Hizer officiating. Burial will be in the Mud Pike Cemetery near Osgood. Visitation will be today, Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Osgood United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.

Sondra Kay Rennert

Sondra Kay Rennert, 66, of Osgood, passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2013. Services will be held Friday, August 16 at Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with funeral service following. Burial will be in the Greendale Cemetery in Lawrenceburg. William “Bill” Sheckels

William “Bill” Sheckels, 87 of Milan, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at his home.  He was born Friday, August 13, 1926, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of Theodore and Trula Mae (Ailor) Sheckels. He married Virginia (Laws) Sheckels on September 3, 1949 and she preceded him in death on March 2, 2005. 

Bill served in the US Army Air Corps and was a member of the Milan First Baptist Church, the Cheviot, Ohio, Masonic Lodge, Versailles Lions Club, the American Legion, and was a life member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Cincinnati.  Bill had been project manager for Union 392.

Bill is survived by sons, Timothy (Laura), Theodore (Constance) and Thomas (Anne Marie) Sheckels; daughter, Odella (Samuel) Boehringer; and 11 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday, August 17, at 10 a.m. at the Milan First Baptist Church with Pastor Harris Long officiating.  Graveside services will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, at Arlington Memorial Cemetery in Cincinnati.  Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Friday at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan. Masonic services by Milan F&AM #31 will be at 7:45 p.m.

Clarence William English

Clarence William English, 87 years and 8 months, was born December 27, 1925 in Miamisburg, Ohio. He died August 6, 2013 at 4:30 p.m. at his home near Holton, after battling brain cancer for several months. He was the son of John Henry English and Rachel Ann (Miller) English, both deceased.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Margaret (Sizemore) English, two daughters and their husbands, Karen Sue (David) Reynolds of Holton, and Wanda Renee (Jerry) Burnett of Leesburg, Florida.
Grandchildren include Karen's children: Derrick (Stacy) Reynolds (stepgrandson) of Greensburg and Melanie (Leslie) Bird of Versailles; Wanda's children: Rachel (Eric) Grossman of Holton and Gara Lee (Shaun) Kreider of Holton. Great grandchildren are Jacob Marvin Grossman, Grace English Grossman, and Keegan Jerry Kreider. Other survivors include one niece, Sharon (Andy) Ceranowicz, of Harvard, Massachusetts, and one nephew, Paul Wayne English of Seattle, Washington.

English attended the North Vernon Church of the Nazarene and had a strong faith in God. Over the years, he served in various churches in a variety of ways. He was a World War II veteran, serving with distinction in the Army from 1945-1948, receiving the Victory Medal and an Army of Occupation Medal. Sergeant English was a squad leader with the 1st Constabulary Brigade in Germany. He also owned and operated his own business, English Ignition, fixing mostly generators, starters, and alternators not only in the Holton area, but received work from all around the United States for over 50 years.

Clarence English, along with his friend, Paul Scholle, was instrumental in forming and hosting the Ripley Flywheeler's Reunion, held on his property every August, for about 23 years. In 1999, he was named Business Person of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce.

A celebration of his life will be held Friday, August 9, from 5-8 p.m. at the Stratton-Karstetter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10-11 a.m. at the Versailles Church of Christ on Saturday. A homecoming service will be held at the Versailles Church of Christ on Saturday, August 10, at 11 a.m. Military rites will be conducted by the Versailles American Legion at the Hopewell Cemetery.

Faron Smith

Faron Smith, 39, of Madison, passed away on July 22, 2013. He was born in Manitoba, Canada on April 21, 1973.

Survivors include his father Lloyd Smith of Versailles; his mother Tina (Kim) Brinson of Versailles; stepmother Peggy Smith of Madison; stepbrothers Luke Smith, Aaron Costin, and Josh Sim; stepsister Carrie Costin; grandparents Robert and Esther Smith, and Leola Brinson of Versailles. He was preceded in death by his sister Jennifer Smith, and his grandparents Leona LaPorte and Leroy Tubbs.

Faron was a 1991 graduate of South Ripley High School and was a member of the Objiwa Indian Tribe in Canada.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, August 2 at 6 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until time of services.

Cindy Neal

Cindy Ann Neal, age 62 of Osgood, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at her home. She was born December 9, 1950 in Abilene, Texas, the daughter of H. Grady and Mary Frances Smith Weir.  She married Scott Neal on June 4, 1993 and he survives.

Cindy received her BA in nursing from WTAMU in Canyon, Texas. In her earlier nursing career, Cindy had worked different places in the United States as a traveling nurse for Cross Country Agency. Most recently, she had worked for Manderley Health Care Center of Osgood.

Other survivors include stepdaughter, Natalie and husband Duane Smith of Madison; stepson, Ryan Neal of Madison; mother-in-law, Betty Neal of Osgood; brothers, David and Robin Weir of Amarillo, TX and John Weir of Kansas City, Missouri; sisters, Carolyn Newton of Amarillo, TX and Brenda and Paul Jefferson of Lubbock, TX; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be Friday, August 2, from 5-8 p.m. at Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 3 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Terry Gene Peters

Terry Gene Peters was born June 29, 1954 to Gene and Betty (Bobb) Peters, of Osgood, and died July 27, 2013 at Hanceville, Alabama.

Terry attended school in Osgood and joined the Air Force directly out of high school. After serving this great country for seven years, he chose to settle in Alabama, where he fulfilled his lifelong dream and became a truck driver; a career that he loved and continued until just before his death.

He enjoyed playing his guitars, spending time with friends and family and being active in his church. Terry was a fantastic guitarist, friend and storyteller, and will be sadly missed.

Survivors include his mother, Betty Peters; sisters LuAnn Peters, Amy (Bill) Stewart; brother, Mike (Ginger) Peters; and three nephews, Tyler French, Zane Stewart and Henry Peters, all of Osgood. He also leaves behind many wonderful friends and a loving church family.

Memorial services for Terry Peters will be held at the Mulberry Baptist Church in Blountsville, Alabama on August 3 at 1 p.m. Memorials can be sent in his name to the church at 1136 Co. Rd. 47, Blountsville, AL 35031.

Jerry Wayne Horton

Jerry Wayne Horton of Aurora, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2013 at the University of Cincinnati Hospital.  Services are pending at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan.
