JCD Lady Eagle golfers open against Switzerland County Lady Pacers

Happy to be back in the swing of fall sports, three Jac-Cen-Del competitors are hitting the course with their Lady Eagle Golf Coach Chad Pindell.

On the negative, however, to score as a team they need at least four members and can carry a fifth, which allows the top four scores to be used for a team score.

With only three members, they will compete on an individual basis throughout the fall season.
The season opener was at North Branch Golf Course in New Point on Thursday, August 8, where they competed against the Switzerland County Lady Pacers led by Coach Natalie Wheeler.

They are slated to battle each other again on Tuesday, August 13, at Belterra.

Golf fundraiser
for athlete
heart screening

Giving Hearts a Hand third annual golf outing is Thurs., August 29. The event is a fundraiser but is also held to raise awareness of cardiac health and the importance of screenings. The event is at 1 p.m. and will be held at Dye’s Walk Country Club. First place prize is $400.

Doug Meyer, founder, said the support provided allows Giving Hearts a Hand to continue working with schools, medical facilities, and families of young athletes.

He said the organization has received numerous calls and e-mails from parents wanting to get their child screened. They expect the participation levels at the existing schools (South Ripley, Franklin, Greenwood, Whiteland) to increase, as they continue to pursue opportunities with new schools. The group met last week with Jac-Cen-Del High School to discuss a cardiac screening program to begin with coordination and services at Margaret Mary Health and The Christ Hospital later this fall.

In addition, there are preliminary talks with another Southside of Indianapolis school to provide screenings to their high school athletes. If any student athlete is in need of a cardiac screening (regardless of school corporation) contact the group for more information. Working together, this screening can be accomplished, Meyer said.

“We appreciate all of the support for the organization...we are excited about the growth and expect it to continue with each of us continuing to spread awareness. Let's prevent a tragic situation from occurring and check those hearts!” he said.
