Evelyn Peters Burton Boyd

Evelyn Peters Burton Boyd, 95 of Milan passed away Friday June 21, 2013 at St. Andrews Health Campus at Batesville.

Evelyn was born Wednesday May 8, 1918 in Aurora, the daughter of John and Myrtle Brown Peters.  She married Harland Burton June 23, 1938 in Nicholasville, Kentucky and he preceded her in death in 1963. She married Thurman Boyd July 15, 1967 and he preceded her in death in 1996.

Evelyn graduated from Aurora High School and worked as a county agent in Aurora, the REMC and for Indiana Supreme Court Judge Amos Jackson from 1959 to 1970. She also worked for Ripley County Circuit Judge Lendell B. Terry and the Ripley County Prosecutor Carl Taul for many years before retiring in 1988.

Known as "Pete" to friends and family, she was a member of the Washington Baptist Church at Elrod, was an avid reader and enjoyed baking, playing cards, challenging crossword puzzles, drawing and painting.

Evelyn is survived by daughter, Anita Morris of Milan; granddaughters, Paula Morris Hall (David) of St. Charles, Illinois, Amy Morris Liter (Jeff) of Batesville, and Connie Spall of Colorado; great grandchildren Austin Hall, Allison Hall, and Meg Liter; nephews Tan Burton of Aurora and Sean Burton of Moores Hill, and lifelong friend Mary Shockey of Versailles.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters Dorothy Uhlmansiek and Betty Brunner and daughter Gail Turner.

Graveside burial services will be held Saturday June 29, 9 a.m. at Riverview Cemetery at Aurora with Pastor Brian Dempsey officiating. A memorial service will then be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan with Rev. Bruce Fitzsimmons and Tan Burton officiating.

Visitation will be 11-11:30 and following services Saturday at the funeral home.

Majorie Townsend McCoy

Majorie Townsend McCoy, passed away Sunday, May 12, 2013 in Sea Beach, California.

She was born August 31, 1927 in Bloomfield, Indiana to Harry and Maude (Huffman) Townsend. She had two brothers Earl Richard  and Robert O. Townsend and one sister, Alice J. Talbert.

She graduated from Switzerland City High School in Switzerland City, Indiana in 1945. After graduation she moved to Indianapolis to get a job working at RCA. She worked for the Alcoholic Commission of Indiana and Indiana Wholesale Liquor Dealers for 20 years.

She married William McCoy on September 20, 1971. They made their home in Hidden Valley, Arkansas. They operated a restaurant and mtel in Montecello, Florida and Longview, Texas.

Mrs. McCoy owned and operated The Green Lantern/Bill's Bar in Covington, Indiana from 1949 to 1970. They returned to Covington in 1976 to run the bar.

In 2003, they moved to Seal Beach, California where they lived full time.

Mrs. McCoy is survived by her husband, William McCoy; stepson, Steve McCoy and stepdaughter, Deborah Wright; and two granddaughters and four great grandchildren.

She was buried in the Lutheran Cemetery in Napoleon, Indiana.

George D. Morgan

George D. Morgan, 76, of Madison, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2013 at King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison. He was born December 1, 1936 in North Madison, the son of Wayne T. and Bessie Winters Morgan. He married Darlene Hambrick Morgan on February 15, 1980 in Madison and she survives.

Other survivors include sons, Troy Morgan and his wife Lisa of Madison, Trent Morgan and his wife Jenni of Columbus; stepsons, Robby Johnson and wife Amy of Madison, Chris Tinker and his companion, Angel of Madison; grandchildren, Kaylan Morgan, Haeli Morgan, Jacob Morgan, Paige Jones, Hailey Jones, Jordan Johnson and Kristen Johnson; stepsisters, Norita Dattilo and her husband John of Madison; Donna Ann Bennett of Madison; brother-in-law Roy T. Bentley, Sr. of Madison; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mr. Morgan was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Mabel C. Jones Morgan; sisters, Norma Bentley and Betty Weaver; brother, Forrest Morgan; sister-in-law, Bonnie Morgan; brother-in-law, William O. "Bill" Weaver, Sr.; and aunts, Pearl Morgan and Fayetta B. Tucker.

Mr. Morgan was a 1955 graduate of Madison High School. He was inducted into the Indiana National Guard on April 7, 1953 and rose to the rank of Staff Sargeant serving in Company A, Second Battalion, 138^th Armor and was honorably discharged on April 6, 1963. He began full time employment at the Gans Funeral Home in Madison in June of 1960 and became the owner in 1977 until he sold the funeral home in 1981.  George was employed with Vail-Holt Memorial Funeral Home in downtown Madison and Hanover from 1985-1996. He had served as vice president of Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre since 1996.

He enjoyed driving a school bus for the same route for 25 years with the Madison Consolidated School system. He served for seven years to the city of Madison as a city councilman.  He was a longtime member of the Kiwanis Club of Madison, the Madison Moose Lodge No. 765, Madison Elks Lodge No. 524, Historic Madison, Inc., Union Lodge No. 2 F. & AM, and the Prince of Peace Catholic Church.

Funeral mass was conducted Monday, June 24 by Father John A. Meyer of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Madison. Internment followed in the Fairmount Cemetery in Madison.

Military honors were conducted by the Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion at the gravesite.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lide White Boys and Girls Club or the Prince of Peace Catholic Church.

Denise Roark

Denise Roark, 45, of Dillsboro passed away at her residence, Sunday, June 23, 2013. She was born January 31, 1968 in Dearborn County, the daughter of William H. and Carol Jean Knigga Lovins. She was married to Anthony Roark July 9, 1988 and he survives.

Denise graduated with the class of 1986 from Milan High School and had been a registered nurse at both the Milan Elementary School and Margaret Mary Hospital. She was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church at Farmers Retreat, was a member of the St. John's Ladies and Friends of the Library of the Milan Branch Library. She was a good caretaker, mother, and wife. Denise enjoyed listening, playing and singing to music.

She is survived by her husband, Anthony; sons Norman Grant (Amanda) Roark of Greensburg and William Tanner Roark of Dillsboro; mother, Carol Lovins of Milan; brother, Tom (Becky) Lovins of Dillsboro; nieces, Nakesha Whitaker and Casey Lovins; nephew, Cody Lovins and her loving dog, Nemo.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 27, 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church at Farmer's Retreat with Pastor Garry Wickert officiating. Burial will follow in the St. John's Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 26 at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Milan Elementary School or St. John's Lutheran Church.

Walter "Babe" Linville Curtis

Walter "Babe" Linville Curtis, 82, Osgood, entered into rest Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at his home. He was born December 22, 1930, in Clark County, Ky., the son of Charlie and Gladys Francis McFarland Curtis. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clay and Carl; and three sisters: Lillian, Geneva and Emma.

Survivors include sons: Jay Randolph Curtis of the Phillipines, and Rick Fultz of Maysville, Kentucky; daughters: Dorinda Joyce White of Huntsville, Alabama, and Marsha Mersch of Holton; brother, David Ray Curtis of New Washington, Kentucky; sister, Gertrude Simpson of New Washington, Kentucky; and six grandchildren.

Walter was a Korean Army Veteran, a past employee of Lucky Stride, past employee of U.S. Shoe, and retired from Delta Faucet. He attended Cedar Creek Community Church near Osgood.

Visitation was held on Saturday, June 15, at Neal's Funeral Home with burial at Presverance Cemetery near Osgood. Memorials may be sent to Margaret Mary Hospice in care of the funeral home. Neal's Funeral Home, Osgood, was entrusted with the arrangements.

Estill King, Jr.

Estill King, Jr., 83, of Dabney passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at the St. Vincent Jennings Hospital in North Vernon. He was born at Combs in Perry County, Kentucky on January 9, 1930, the son of Estill Sr. and Eunice Fletcher King. He was married to Norma Sizemore on November 25, 1953 and she survives.

Other survivors include four sons, Jerry (Felicia) King of Dallas, Texas, Steve (Bambi) King, Daniel King, and Phil (Kelly) King, all of Dabney; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; three sisters Ruby (Dan) Herald of Lexington, Kentucky, Maxine Morris of Middletown, Ohio, and Louise (James) Conway of Lebanon, Ohio.

His parents and his daughter Vicki Kay King preceded him in death. Mr. King was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War where he served from 1948 to 1952 as a pipefitter on the USS Collett. He was a former employee of the Magnod Foundry in Middletown, Ohio and had retired as a maintenance supervisor with ITT Thompson in North Vernon.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 15 at 1 p.m. at the Dabney Baptist Church. Burial was in the Dabney Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Versailles American Legion.

Memorials may be given to the Dabney Baptist Church in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home.

Eli "Pooh"Cornett

Eli "Pooh" Cornett, 68, of Milan, passed away peacefully at his residence Saturday June 8, 2013. Eli was born Wednesday June 14, 1944 at Viper, Kentucky, the son of John and Goldie (Engle) Cornett. He married Nancy (Haessig) Cornett Saturday June 26, 1965 and she survives.

Eli was a member of the St. Paul Methodist Church south of Sunman and was a retired employee of Monsanto/Bayer in Cincinnati. He had worked for Henry Rose and Sons Well Drilling and was owner/operator of Cornett Drive Way Sealing. Eli loved the outdoors being a lover of golf, hunting, fishing, camping, nature and gardening. He enjoyed working and helping out friends and neighbors.

He also loved playing softball, having been a member of several different softball teams over the years until turning the reigns over to his sons. He also coached Milan Little League Baseball and Pee Wee Football for many years. He loved spending time with his family but still had time to be an avid UK fan.

Eli is survived by his wife Nancy of nearly 48 years, sons Todd (Nikki) Cornett of Lawrenceburg, Aaron (Sharon) Cornett of Milan, and Bryan Cornett (fiancé Melissa Lawrence) of Cincinnati, grandchildren Sarah, Emily, Landon, and Lucas Cornett, brothers William (Joyce) Cornett of Louisville, George (Hazel) Cornett of Milan, Frank Cornett of Beattyville, Kentucky, Herschel (Sandy) Cornett of Greensboro, North Carolina, and sisters Loretta Gault of seven Mile, Ohio and Marlene (Kenny) Wells of Smilax, Kentucky, sister-in-law Elzira Cornett of Viper, Kentucky and a host of friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Roger and Wallace "Blue" Cornett and sister June Cornett.

Funeral services for Eli will be Saturday June 15, 2013, 11 a.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 8930 N. St. Road 101, Sunman with Pastor Duane Loos officiating.

Burial will follow in St. Paul Cemetery. Visitation 4-8 p.m. Friday at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan.

In lieu of flowers the family asks memorial contributions be given to either Hospice of Margaret Mary Health or the St. Paul Methodist Church.

Patricia Ruth Smith

Patricia Ruth Brandon "Patty" Smith, 83, of Versailles, passed away Friday, June 7, 2013 at Our Hospice Inpatient Unit, Columbus. She was born October 29, 1929 in Newport, Kentucky, the daughter of Ernest Brandon and Berniece Drake Brandon Griffith. She married Charles Stout in 1948. She was later married to Delmar Smith on October 15, 1960 and he survives.

Survivors include her son Terry Stout and his wife Deborah of Atlanta, Georgia; daughter, Debra Walker and husband Jerry of Versailles; brother, David Brandon and wife Sherri of Madison; grandchildren, Michelle Workman and husband Michael, Melinda "Mindy" Scott and husband B.J. Kinsey Stout, Dakota Walker and fiancé Kristen; great grandchildren, Mitchell and Matthew Workman, Rylee Stout, Blaine Inman, Avery and Kinley Scott and nephew and niece, Anthony Brandon and Jennifer Hay.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Michael Stout; stepmother, Nannie Lou Brandon; stepfather, Frederick Griffith and nephew, Jonathan Brandon.

Mrs. Smith was a 1947 graduate of Dupont High School. She was a member of the Christian faith and enjoyed cooking, cleaning and being with her family. Patty was the co-owner and co-operator with her husband, Delmar, of Smith's Feed Mill, south of Versailles for 18 years.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 11 from 5-8 p.m. and Wednesday, June 12 from noon until the time of services at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, Madison. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 12 at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Brian Teater officiating. Burial will follow in the Grandview Memorial Gardens near Madison.

Memorials may be made to Our Hospice of Inpatient Unit. Contribution cards are available at the funeral home.

Virginia Collins

Virginia Collins, 83, of Madison formerly of Versailles passed away Thursday, May 30, 2013, at Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville.

She was born at Parnell, Kentucky on February 2, 1930, the daughter of Powers and Leslie McGuire. She was married to Jesse Mains and he preceded her in death.

Survivors include one son Danny (Betty) Mains of Versailles; two daughters Retha (Harry) Bischofberger of Madison and Penny (Roy) Collins of Buterville; twelve grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 5 great great-grandchildren; three sisters Audrey Ismer, Velma Dobson, Helen Commer; two brothers Vesco and Earl McGuire of Monticello, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, and one sister.

Mrs. Collins was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church at Negangards's Corner. Funeral services were held on Monday, June 3, at the West Fork Baptist Cemetery with Karen Reynolds of the West Fork Baptist Church officiating. Stratton-Karstetter is entrusted with the arrangements.

Victor Schwanholt

Victor Fred Henry Schwanholt, 91, of Versailles passed away Sunday, June 2, 2013 at the King's Daughters Hospital in Madison. He was born near Cross Plains on July 22, 1921, the son of John and Alma Steingruber Schwanholt. He was married to Virginia Sedam on August 30, 1947 and she preceded him in death on March 2, 1990.

Survivors include five sons Dennis (Janet) Schwanholt of Versailles, David (Carol) Schwanholt of Milan, Dale (Linda) Schwanholt of Osgood, Darrell Schwanholt of Benham, and Doug (Hope) Schwanholt of Olean; three daughters Lois (Ralph) Vogel of Benham, Linda (Mark) Darnstaedt of Georgetown, and Lisa (Rob) Vestal of Benham; 13 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, his daughter-in-law Jo Ann Schwanholt, his brothers Edward and Walter Schwanholt, and his sister Meta Thieman.

Mr. Schwanholt was an Army veteran of WWII where he served with the 328th Hospital Battalion as a surgical technician. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, and the American Victory Medal. He worked in sanitation and warehouse maintenance for Seagram's in Lawrenceburg from 1953 to 1985 and was also a farmer. Mr. Schwanholt enjoyed his large family, loved John Deere tractors, and also enjoyed his farm and working with his animals.

Victor was a lifetime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Dewberry.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 6 at 11 a.m, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Dewberry with Pastor  Richard Wilkie officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military graveside rites by the Versailles American Legion.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 p.m to 8 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10 a.m. until time of services Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be given to St. Paul's Cemetery in care of the funeral home.

Marie Weise

Marie Weise, 94 of Eaton, Ohio, died Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Plainfield Health Care in Plainfield.

Marie was born on October 27, 1918 in Middlesboro, Bell County, Kentucky the daughter of the late Austin B. & Lucy K. (Howard) Clifton.

She moved to Eaton in 1952 from Kentucky and attended the Eaton Church of The Nazarene.

She is survived by a grandson Frank D. Bowling of St. Petersburg, Fl. and great niece Christine Farrow of Plainfield.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer E. Weise; son, Otis Warren Bowling; sisters, Eacil O. Voss, Lucille Clifton, Viola McDonald, and Evelyn Clifton; brothers Salvie Doyle Clifton, R.V. Clifton, Austin Clifton, Jr. and Harold Clifton; grandsons Scott Jeffrey Bowling and Paul Gregory Bowling.

Graveside service were held Monday, June 3, 2013 at Mound Hill Cemetery, Eaton, Ohio with Rev. Lowell T. Spencer. Arrangements are entrusted to Barnes Funeral Home - Eaton, Ohio. Condolences may be sent to the family via the website at www. barnesfuneralhome.com.
