Wm. Linden Bittner

Wm. Linden Bittner, 81, formerly of Versailles, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2013 at the University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. He was born February 27, 1932 at Wrights Corner in Dearborn County, the son of Linden G. and Anna M. Grenat Bittner. He married Viola "Abbie" Mae Borders and she still survives.

Other survivors include daughters: Shirley A. Childress of Covington, KY, and Debra K. Bittner of Ohio; brothers: Herschel "Pete" Bittner of LA and Larry M. Bittner of Brookville; special friends: Trina (Jamie) Schutte and Barbara Bowling, both of Versailles; six grandchildren, and many great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters: Janice Waits and Mary Richardson.

Wm. had worked for Thatcher Glass of Lawrenceburg, and in his later years had done part time work for Alco in Versailles. In 1987, he joined his wife and helped her with her ministry and evangelistic work. Both were greatly loved and respected by everyone they touched.

He was a member of the Versailles Wesleyan Church.

Funeral services will be held all in one day, Thursday, April 18, at Neal's Funeral Home, Osgood. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with funeral services immediately following. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles.

Margaret Haggard

Margaret Haggard, 66, of Versailles, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2013. Services are being held at the convenience of the family. Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home, Versailles, is in charge of arrangements.

Robert "Bob" H. Heitmeyer

Robert "Bob" H. Heitmeyer, 80, of Dillsboro, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2013 at Dearborn County Hospital. He was born July 26, 1932 in Dillsboro, the son of James and Norma (Leive) Heitmeyer. On May 1, 1951, he was joined in marriage to Verna R. Cleeter, and they enjoyed many years together.

Bob was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Dillsboro for many years, where he served as chairman, vice chairman, elder, trustee, Sunday school superintendent, and repairman.

Bob lived his entire life in Dillsboro; working for his father in the appliance store in the 50's and 60's doing electrical and plumbing work. In 1966 he went to work at Joseph E. Seagram & Son's Distillery as a machinist until retiring in January of 1996.

He was a second generation firefighter. He joined the Dillsboro Fire Department in 1954 and was an active member until retiring in 2002. He held many offices during his time with the fire department, including secretary, trustee, and fire chief from 1971 through 1990. During his years of service with the fire department, he received several awards including: the Dillsboro Volunteer Fire Department Appreciation Award in 1978, in 1980 the IVFA District 19 Award, the 9^th District Winner-Indiana American Legion Firefighter of the Year award in 1982, the Dillsboro American Legion Fireman of the Year award in 1989 and 1999, and the Governors Fire Service Award for Meritorious Service in 1991.

In 1981, Bob was awarded the Dillsboro Homecoming Outstanding Citizen award.

Bob's passion for firefighting continues on into the third and fourth generations as his son, Tim, is currently serving as fire chief, and grandson, Kristopher, is a lieutenant firefighter/EMT, both with the Dillsboro Volunteer Fire Department. Another grandson, Davin, is a career firefighter/EMT with the Houston, Texas Fire Department.

Bob was an active part of the community for several years and received numerous recognitions over the years. He was a member of the Dearborn County Sheriff's Merit Board. He also enjoyed being a clerk at the Dillsboro Civic Club for the past few years.

Survivors include his wife, Verna (Cleeter); sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Shadday; sons, David (Sandy) Heitmeyer of Cleves, OH and Tim (Debra) Heitmeyer of Dillsboro; grandchildren, Davin (Barbara) Heitmeyer of Houston, TX, Kristi Heitmeyer and Kris Heitmeyer of Dillsboro.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 18 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Dillsboro with Pastor Richard Kolaskey officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakdale Cemetery in Dillsboro with full firefighter honors. Memorials may be given in his memory to the Dillsboro Volunteer Fire Department or Trinity Lutheran Church.

Paul Warren Stevens

Paul Warren Stevens, 89, a lifelong resident of Dillsboro, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at The Waters of Dillsboro, Ross Manor.

Visitation will be Friday, April 19, from 5-8 p.m. at DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro, with funeral service on Saturday, April 20, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Tom Fehrman officiating.

Thelma Mae Eaton

Thelma Mae Eaton, 100 of Osgood, passed away Monday, April 8, 2013 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. She was born September 19, 1912 in Cross Plains, the daughter of Jesse Ray and Addie Lewis Osborn. Thelma married Leon J. Eaton on May 19, 1934 in Adams, IN, and he preceded her in death.

Thelma was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ "Finks" of Osgood and the Church's Ladies Aid. She was a 75-year member of the Osgood and Versailles Eastern Star.

Survivors include sons, Larry L. Eaton of Versailles, James Rod (Shirley) Eaton of Batesville, Gene R. (Sharon) Eaton of Napoleon; sister, Betty Jean Robbins of Batesville; five grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and eight great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Mitch Eaton.

Delores Ann Miller

Delores Ann Miller, 74 of Osgood, passed away Monday, April 8, 2013. Funeral services will be held all in one day, Saturday, April 13 at Cedar Creek Church of Osgood. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 noon with funeral services immediately following. Burial will be in the Miller Cemetery of Osgood.

Evelyn M. Elder

Evelyn M. Elder, 90, a longtime Dillsboro resident, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at Dearborn County Hospital. She was the widow of Robert Gordon Elder, who passed away on January 9, 2006. Funeral arrangements will be announced in Tuesdays paper by DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro.

Lillie Mae (Day) Hisle

Lillie Mae (Day) Hisle, 87, formerly of Dublin, passed away on March 28, 2013, at Golden Living Center in Greenfield. Lillie was born on March 22, 1926 to the late Kelly and Erasta (Stidham) Day in Weaubleau, Missouri. She married Ronald "Shorty" Hisle on December 31, 1946 in College Corner, Ohio.

Lillie was an active member of the Cambridge City Church of the Nazarene and enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include son, Darrel Wayne (Kathy) Hisle of Greenfield; two grandchildren, Aaron Wayne Hisle and Hannah Marie Hisle, both of Indianapolis; brothers and sisters, Tom (Loraine) Day, Dale (Laverne) Day, Pruda Setser, Mary Ellen Thieman and Pauline (Irvan) Hart, all of Versailles.

Lillie was preceded in death by her husband on May 31, 2007; and two brothers, Harlan Day and Joe Day.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 1, at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Dublin, IN. Burial was in the South Lawn Cemetery, also in Dublin.

Lovella "Lucille" Maxwell

Lovella "Lucille" Maxwell, 90, of Osgood passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at the Waters of Clifty Falls in Madison. She was born at Delmar in Pulaski County, Kentucky on November 25, 1922, the daughter of Zeno and Clyda Floyd Sharp. She was married to James Dunagan on December 24, 1940 and he preceded her in death on September 16, 1958. In 1963 she married Harry Maxwell and he preceded her in death on March 1, 1997.

Survivors include six sons, Orville (Vickie) Dunagan of Madison, Hubert (Shirley) Dunagan of Whitehouse, Tennessee, James (Phyllis) Dunagan of Scipio, Farris (Judy) Dunagan and Larry (Connie) Dunagan both of Osgood, and Kurt (Melissa) Dunagan of Benham; two daughters, Teresa (Garry) Ingram of Columbia City and Angela Dunagan of North Vernon; 22 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren, and 14 great great grandchildren; two brothers, Ivan Sharp and James (Creta) Sharp both of Miamisburg, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Lois Sharp of Berne and Gladys Sharp of Boswell.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Roy, Ralph, and Parker Sharp.

Mrs. Maxwell grew up in southern Kentucky where she learned to love cooking and canning at an early age. She also enjoyed her family, farming, gardening, and watching her hummingbirds.

She retired in 1979 from the Muscatatuck State Developmental Center where she worked as a dietitian. Lovella was a member of the Osgood United Methodist Church and the Osgood-Versailles Chapter of the Eastern Star.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 6 at 11 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Ginny Hizer of the Osgood United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at a later date at the Mill Springs National Cemetery in Nancy, Kentucky. Visitation will be Friday from 5-8 p.m. with Eastern Star services to be conducted at 7:30 p.m.
