Thelma M. Schultz Bradley Wooten

Thelma M. Schultz Bradley Wooten, 85, of Hanover, formerly of Madison, passed away Friday, May 18, 2012. Funeral services were held Monday, May 21 at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison, with burial in the Grandview Memorial Gardens near Madison. Norma Jean Warren

Norma Jean Warren, 83, of Paoli, IN, formerly of Aurora and Dillsboro, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany, following a long illness. She was born May 9, 1929 in Niles, Michigan to Norman B. Wells and Emma LaRue Almond Wells.

Norma was originally from Paoli and moved to Aurora in 1966, where she lived until moving to Dillsboro in 1976. In 1977 she married Roy M. Moore, and he passed away on June 13, 1994. In 1995 she married Don Warren and returned to Paoli to reside.

Norma was a member of First Baptist Church of Aurora for over 40 years, and was a charter member of Dillsboro 50+ Club. She was a former supervisor at Dillsboro Manor and Dearborn Community Hospital for several years.

Norma was a gifted poet and soloist, and wrote many poems that were published. She loved singing at church and was a devout Christian lady. Her family was most important to her, and she loved planting and raising flowers, especially her clematis plants and annuals. Norma loved animals and always had a few dogs and cats around. She would give to others until it hurt-she never had a bad word to say about anyone.

Surviving is her husband, Don Warren of Paoli; eight children, Diane (George) Powell of Dillsboro, Danny (Dorothy) Hutslar of English, Karen (Dennis) Smith of Dillsboro, Ronnie Hutslar of Miamitown, OH, Norma (Jeff) Watson of Milan, Philip (Jennifer) Hutslar of Moores Hill, Joyce (Mike) Dees of Alexandria, KY, and Tammy (Gregg) Eggleston of Moores Hill; 16 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild; one brother, Ray Wells of Martinsville; one sister, Jan Edmiston of New Albany; and many step children and step grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, her mother died in 2009, and her father who died in 1980; and seven brothers and sisters.

The funeral service for Norma Jean was held Saturday, May 19 at First Baptist Church of Aurora with Pastor Bill Secrest officiating. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery, Dillsboro. Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church of Aurora. Arrangements were entrusted to DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro.

Johanne M. (Garteman) Graham

Johanne M. (Garteman) Graham, 73 of Milan passed away peacefully Friday May 11, at the Seasons in Milan. Johanne was born August 17, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Fred and Marie (Puente) Garteman. Johanne married Gerald Allen Graham November 7, 1959 and he preceded her in death July 14, 1987.

Johanne was a member of the St. Pius Catholic Church and was well known for her volunteer work. She was a volunteer for the Milan '54 Museum, Ripley Crossing, and the Milan Beautification Committee and had helped with the St. Pius picnic for over 60 years. She was a member of the Milan Legion and VFW Auxiliaries.

She was a secretary for a Wing Commander and Flight Surgeon in the United States Air Force working at military bases in Spain, Japan, Maine, North Carolina, Indiana, Ohio, and Hawaii. She later worked as a paralegal for Terrance Richmond's Law Firm for 30 years, and also worked at the Milan Railroad Inn.In her spare time she loved playing euchre and spending time with her Grandchildren.

Johanne is survived by son Douglass (Brenda) Graham of Batesville, daughters Deborah (Scott) Busching of Hebron, Kentucky and Michelle Graham of Irvington, Kentucky, Grandchildren Katie and Mary Jo Busching and Koralyssa Graham, sisters Carolyn Cutter and Judy Cline both of Milan, sister-in-law Barbara Graham of Cincinnati, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

Funeral masswas held Monday, May 14, at the St. Pius Catholic Church northwest of Milan with Father Frank Eckstein presiding.Burial was in St. Pius Catholic Cemetery. Rosary service will be at 4:30PM, and Auxiliary services will be at 7:45, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in her name to the Gerald and Johanne Graham Scholarship Fund through the Milan High School Dollars for Scholars. Donald J. Raisor

Donald J. Raisor, 75, of Milan, passed away Friday, May 11, 2012 at Margaret Mary Hospital at Batesville. Don was born Tuesday, March 9, 1937 in Cleves, Ohio, the son of Ralph J. and Viola Marie (Duncan) Raisor. He married Faye (Cuneo) Raisor January 16, 1971 and she survives.

Don was a police officer with the Clark County Sheriffs Dept. for several years, and also worked as a contractor and welder. He served as an MP in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Hope Baptist Church. Don enjoyed fishing, hunting, and family time.

Don is survived by his wife of 41 years, Faye, of Milan; son Ralph J. Raisor of Charlestown; daughters Kathryn Marie Higdon of Charlestown and Brenda (Joey) Williams of Ohio; five grandchildren; sisters Diana Ladd of Greendale, Bobby Lipstack, Mary Jo Cleary, and Joyce Fillenwarth all of Lawrenceburg. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Alexander Lee Raisor, two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan with Pastor Tom Holt officiating. Burial will follow in Tanglewood Cemetery at Versailles.  Military Rites at gravesite will be performed by Milan American Legion Post #235. Helen Alma Steuver

Helen Alma Steuver, 97, of Dillsboro, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2012 in Dillsboro. She was born Saturday, August 29, 1914 in Norwood, OH, the daughter of the late Leavitt Donald Miller and the late Helen A. Somers Miller.

She worked as a LPN for Dearborn County Hospital, retiring after over 17 years of service. Prior to her years at the hospital, Helen worked as a clerk at Pogue's in the candy department for several years.

She was a member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Dillsboro, and a former Eastern Star member. In her earlier years, she was a Girl Scout leader. Helen enjoyed sewing, cooking and was an avid reader. She especially loved spending special time with all her family.

Surviving are son, John R. (Marlene) Steuver Jr. of Dillsboro; daughter, Beverly (late-Charles) Hahn of Lawrenceburg; grandchildren, Brenda (James) Conley, James (Teresa) Steuver, Russell (Teresa) Steuver, Gordon (Lisa) Steuver, Donna (Gene) Crabtree, Terry (Amie) Hahn, Tara (Mark Phillips) Hahn M.D.; 15 great-grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John R. Steuver Sr. and siblings, Elizabeth Groff Wikle, Shirley Landvermeyer, Gordon and Donald Miller

Funeral services were held at the Hopewell Presbyterian Church, Dillsboro on Monday, May 14, with Pastor Tom Fehrman officiating. Burial followed in the Oakdale Cemetery, Dillsboro.

Alice M. Hooton Swingle

Alice M. Hooton Swingle, 81, of Crozet, VA, died April 23, 2012 at Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, VA. She was born January 17, 1931 in Versailles, the daughter of the late Roland and Clara (Warfield) Hooton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard E. Swingle.

Surviving are three daughters, Lesa Calleo (Gary), Leslie Burns, and Colleen Swingle-Titus (Paul), all of Virginia; four granddaughters and four grandsons; sisters, Hope (Bob) Fisse of Madison, Faith (Don) Huffman of Lafayette and Jane Hooton of Milford, OH; brothers, Dwight (Donna) Hooton of Versailles and Duane Hooton of Osgood; and sister-in-law Ruth (Keith) Hunger of Versailles.

A celebration of life ceremony is planned for June 23, 2012 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Pastor John Stacey will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Paul Cemetery Fund (5879 S SR 129, Versailles, IN 47042 or a charity of the donor's choice.

John Victor "Jack" Fentz

John Victor "Jack" Fentz, 82, of Dillsboro, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2012 at Dearborn County Hospital. He was born January 24, 1930 in Indianapolis, the son of James J. Fentz and Thelma Mildred "Mickey" Fender Fentz, and was a graduate of Mt. Comfort High School.

Following graduation from high school, Jack joined the US Navy and was assigned to the USS Pickerel submarine. Jack served from 1948-1952 during the Korean Conflict. Following his military service, Jack returned home and married his high school sweetheart, Evelyn Liebrandt, on August 7, 1953. They purchased an old farmhouse in Mt. Comfort and Jack indulged his lifelong love of gardening.

Jack loved dahlias and fruit trees and music. He was an avid Euchre and Aggravation player. He played the trumpet and sang in quartets and the Glee Club at Indiana Central College, which is now the University of Indianapolis.

Following graduation, Jack became a high school basketball coach, English and Math teacher, and Vice Principal in the Mt. Comfort and Indianapolis school districts.

He moved to Michigan and sold home improvement products to retailers, and transferred to Illinois in 1967, where he got into Barbershop singing with gusto.

He was a member of an international championship chorus for many years, until being transferred to Dillsboro in 1980. In Dillsboro, Jack became very involved in the Walk to Emmaus program, and served on the board for many years. He was a long time member of Dillsboro United Methodist Church, and was a gifted public speaker. When he was liturgist at church, he always gave a short story or poem to make it interesting.

Jack is survived by his wife of 59 years, Evelyn; children, Vickie (Sam) Melson of Liberty Twp., OH, Tim Fentz and Suzie (Gardiner) McLain of Dillsboro, and Jill (David) Russell of Liberty, OH; nine grandchildren, Leslie Russell, Katlyn (AM2 Matthew) Flynn, Amanda Russell, Pvt. Sam “Johnny” Melson, Pfc. Dylan Dansand, Paul Russell, Ben (Sarah) Melson, Cameron McLain and Micah McLain; two great granddaughters, Kaylee and Tessa Flynn; two brothers, Jerry (Patricia) Fentz and Edward (Margaret) Fentz; and sister, Patricia (James) Coleman.

Funeral services will be Friday, May 11, at 11 a.m. at Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro, with Pastor Ted Hamrick officiating. Burial will be in the Oakdale Cemetery. Friends may meet his family at the funeral home on Thursday, May 10, from 5-8 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Dillsboro United Methodist Church plumbing fund. 

We can now imagine Jack singing in the Heavenly Choir. "Old Bluey" has gone home.

Mildred O. Baugh

Mildred O. Baugh, 84, of Osgood, formerly of Holton passed away Friday, April 27, 2012 at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. She was born near Osgood on May 5, 1927, the daughter of Lester and Flora Johnson Brown. She was married to Cecil Baugh on September 10, 1946 and he preceded her in death on November 16, 2004.

Survivors include one son, Lester (Ellen) Baugh of Seymour; four daughters, Gia (Vern) Spoor of Worthington, Sonja (Bert) Samples of Rexville, Ginger (Bill) Bradford of Versailles, and Shawna (Rick) Bushhorn of Osgood; 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her sister Grace Bateman.

Mrs. Baugh was a 1945 graduate of Osgood High School and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Osgood. She was a homemaker and worked for nine years as a cook at the Muscatatuck State Developmental Center. She had also served as deputy when her father occupied the Ripley County Treasurer's office. Mildred and Cecil worked flea markets at Gnaw Bone, Indiana for several years.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 30 at the First Baptist Church in Osgood with Rev. Don Buck officiating. Burial was in the Grandview Memorial Garden near Madison. Memorials may be given to the activities fund at the Manderley Health Care Center, Hospice of Margaret Mary Community Hospital, or the church in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home, Versailles.

Mark Ward Benham

Mark Ward Benham, 54, of Madison, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2012. Graveside funeral services were held Monday, April 30 at Brooksburg Cemetery in Brooksburg with Rev. Charlie Brinson

Charlie Brinson, 68, of Versailles, passed away Thursday, April 26, 2012 at the King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison. He was born in Indianapolis on September 7, 1943, the son of Edwin and Lorraine Denny Brinson. He was married to Penny Newhart on September 28, 1962 and she survives.

Other survivors include one son, Tad (Marsha) Brinson of Olean; grandchildren, Jacob, Kelsey, and Abigail Brinson.

Mr. Brinson was a 1961 graduate of Versailles High School. He retired from Cummins in 1995 after 33 years working in Columbus and at Holset in Madison. Charlie and Penny owned and operated Totem Saddlery in Versailles for 25 years.

Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family with burial in the Cliff Hill Cemetery at Versailles. Memorials may be given to Rescue 69 in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home, Versailles.
