Judy Tyler
Judy Tyler, 64, of Holton, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at her home. She was born at Austin on November 3, 1947, the daughter of Allen and Lois Trapp Roth. She was married to Tim Tyler on January 9, 1965 and he survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Jamie and Jessey Tyler, both of Holton; two daughters, Regina Ritchie and her companion Paula Watson of Holton and Tiffani (Ken) Campbell of Terre Haute; five grandchildren; two brothers, Curtis (Joyce) Roth and Frank (Mary Etta) Roth, both of Butlerville; three sisters, Betty (Roy) Gunter of New Marion, Shirley Borders of Benham and Donna (Marvin) Giddings of Greensburg. She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter Natalie.
Mrs. Tyler was a 1965 graduate of New Marion High School. She had worked in housekeeping and as an attendant at both Muscatatuck and Craigmont State Hospitals.
F uneral services will be held Saturday, January 28 at 11 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Ceburn Tyler and Frank Roth officiating. Burial will be in the Holton West Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5-8 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Hospice of Margaret Mary Community Hospital or the Ripley County Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
Leota "Blackie" Byard
Leota "Blackie" Byard age 79, of Osgood, passed away Monday, January 23, 2012 at the Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville. She was born July 11, 1932 the daughter of Hervey and Susie White Linville.  She married Pearl L. "Beardy" Byard, Jr. on July 31, 1950 and he preceded her in death on November 6, 1999.
Blackie had worked 31 years at Vines Egg Plant which was located in Osgood years ago.  She also had worked for the US Shoe Company located in Osgood for eight years retiring in 1998.
The last few years, since 2000, she lived at the Buckeye Community Homes in Osgood, where she loved to play euchre and bingo with her friends.  She enjoyed painting items of art.  Blackie was the queen of driving her scooter all over Osgood, people will miss seeing her waving hand and beautiful smile as she flew on by.
Survivors include sons, Ed (Karen) Byard of Osgood and Hervey Byard of Osgood; daughters, Janice (Roger) Truitt of Osgood, Susan (Paul) Bennett of Westport and Kathy (David) Herbert of Greensburg; 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; sisters, Eileen Borgman of Osgood and Iota "Rusty" Green of Milan. She was preceded in death by two daughters: Melinda and Lola Linville and three brothers: Gordon, Lawrence and Randy Linville.
Visitation is being held today, Thursday, from 5-8 p.m. at Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 27 at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the Greendale Cemetery in Osgood. Memorials may be given to the Greendale Cemetery c/o funeral home. Oma Priscilla Craft Rose
Oma Priscilla Craft Rose, 99, of Batesville, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at St. Andrews Health Campus. She was born November 26, 1912 in Kibby, OK, the daughter of Benjamin Alonzo and Effie Byrd Craft. She married Reece Ray Rose November 12, 1932 and he preceded her in death on January 30, 1977.
Oma grew up in Morgan County, Kentucky. As a young girl she had attended Grassy Creek Baptist Church in Morgan County, KY. At the age of 16 years, she and her family moved to Osgood. She later met Reece R. Rose and they were married. She and Reece bought a farm in the Mud Pike Church area. There they raised their three children.
Oma had attended the Laughery Bridge Church near Napoleon and was also a Ladies Aid Member. Later she attended Mud Pike Baptist Church in Osgood. She was a past member of the Ripley County Democratic Women.
Survivors include son, Ray (Wanda) Rose of Batesville; daughter: Alice Marie Rose Bryant of Pittsboro; 17 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by stillborn daughter, Jeanette Rose and also one son, Paul Boone Rose.
Services will be held all in one day, Saturday, January 28, at Neal's Funeral Home, Osgood, with visitation from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and funeral services immediately following. Burial will be in the Mud Pike Cemetery in Osgood. Memorials may be given to the Mud Pike Cemetery in care of the funeral home. Dora Jean "Dodie" Vinup
Dora Jean “Dodie” Vinup, 73, of Milan, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. Dodie was born July 31, 1938 in Ripley County, the daughter of Omer E. and Mary Evelyn (Albright) Sheldon. She married Ray C. Vinup on April 28, 1956 and he preceded her in death on December 18, 2005.
Dodie was a retired employee of Nutone Industries in Cincinnati and was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Survivors include sons, Ray (Ada Jane) and Fred (Penny) Vinup, both of Milan; sister, Virginia Diesnroth of Freemont, Ohio; grandchildren, Jeremy, Jarad, Jana and Heather Vinup; great grandchild, Caleb Vinup; several nieces nephews, cousins and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by a brother, Elmer James Sheldon, and sisters, Audrey Emery, Ruth Burris and Doris Grossman.
Funeral services will be Friday, January 27, at 11 a.m. at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan, with Rev. Harris Long officiating. Burial will follow in the Craven Cemetery in Milan. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Milan Fire Department through the funeral home. William Stewart Bruns, Sr.
William Stewart Bruns, Sr. passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. He was born on April 5, 1941 in Wyoming, Ohio, to the late Bernard and Margaret (Anderson) Bruns. He married Catherine Henn on June 10, 1961 and she preceded him in death on September 5, 2005.
William is survived by two sons, William S. Bruns, Jr. (Carrie) of Milan and Ronald Bruns, Sr. (Barbara) of Patriot; one daughter, Leisa Fryer of Moores Hill; grandchildren, Courtney (Nate) Wagner, Katelyn, William III, Ronald Jr., Matthew, Daniel, and Brandon (Amber) Bruns, Jerry Fryer Jr., Deborah (Steven) Nies and Nikki McDonald; great grandsons, Clay, Estin and Tyler Bruns; great granddaughter, Emma Bruns; one sister, Patricia (Robert) Bonnlander of Bright; brothers, Robert (Suzanne) Bruns of Moores Hill, Tom (Alice) Bruns and Mike (Marlena) Bruns of Milan; brother-in-law, Ron Bonnlander of Milan; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Bruns was preceded in death by his wife, a grandson, Michael Bruns, son-in-law, Jerry Fryer, Sr., a brother, Jean Bruns, and a sister, Janet Bonnlander.
Mr. Bruns worked several jobs over the years. He and the late Dale Lochard operated Milan Heating and Cooling servicing in Milan and surrounding areas for many years. He later opened Bruns Heating and Cooling with his sons in downtown Milan. His last employment was at Valeo in Greensburg where he took a medical retirement.
Mr. Bruns was an inspiration to many especially after losing both of his legs to PAD and then later with lung cancer as he did not let either disease get him down. He continued to help others and also serve many positions in his church and as well as helping out in the community.
He was very well-known for his love of music and playing the organ. He played the organ at his church and also would provide entertainment for friends, family, other churches, nursing homes, and any other community event he was asked to perform.
Mr. Bruns was a member of the CB Helping Hands and Cornerstone Church in Milan. For the past several years he volunteered to help out his son and grandson who are both firemen by stuffing over 2000 envelopes for the annual fund drive for the Milan Volunteer Fire Department.
Funeral services will be Saturday, January 21, at 11 a.m. at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan, with Brother Gene Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow in the German Lutheran Cemetery, north of Milan. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Bruns asked his family to have all memorials made to the Milan Volunteer Fire Department upon his death. Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan, is entrusted with arrangements.
Rev. James E. Bastain
Rev. James E. Bastain, 91, of Jasonville, formerly of Versailles, passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2012. Visitation will be Friday, January 20 from 5-8 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home in Jasonville. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 21 at the Nine Mile Methodist Church, Jasonville with Pastor John Pierce officiating. Interment will be in the K of P Cemetery in Hymera with military graveside rites.
Marvin Lee Black
Marvin Lee Black was born May 20, 1917 in Haney’s Corner Indiana. He was the youngest of three children born to Charles Newton and Mary Agnes Black. He graduated from Napoleon High School in 1936. Marvin married Thelma Louise Hendren on April 8, 1945.
Marvin and Louise were charter members of the Rosedale Baptist Church in Covington, Kentucky, where Marvin was a deacon and served faithfully in a wide variety of roles for the rest of his life.
At the time of his passing at the age of 94, Marvin was still chairman of the deacons. He served as church treasurer for 28 years and was granted the title of treasurer emeritus for his years of service. Marvin worked for the Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky for 39 years.
Marvin went to his heavenly home on January 17, 2012 where he was reunited with his wife Louise, his granddaughter Kendra Jo, and with many family and friends who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his son Kenneth Black of Walton KY and grandchildren Nathan Black (Hebron, KY), Ryan Black (Walton, KY) and Megan Black (Walton, KY). He is also survived by his niece Cheryll Obendorf (Versailles), nephews Charles Black (Newport, OR), Jim Black (Milan), John Black (North Vernon), and Bill Black (North Vernon).
V isitation for Marvin Black will be held on Thursday, January 19, at Chamber & Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence, KY, from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 20, at Rosedale Baptist Church, Covington (Latonia), KY. The family suggests memorials to Rosedale Baptist Church or St. Elizabeth Hospice in lieu of flowers.

Mary Helen Price Hawkins, 70, of Madison, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2012. Violet M. Risk Elles
Violet M. Risk Elles, 95, of Hanover, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2012, at Hanover Health & Rehab Center, Hanover. She was born December 4, 1916 in Madison, the daughter of David & Ida Fuehrer Risk.Survivors include one daughter, Gloria Moore & her husband, William of Hanover; son, Gayle Elles & his wife, Linda of Hanover; daughter in law, Becky Elles of Indianapolis; brother, Glenn Risk & his wife, Helen of Versailles; nine grandchildren, William J. Moore & his wife, Kathy; Robert J. Moore; Marcella A. Moore Nuffer; Michael W. Elles & his wife, Leigh; Gary K. Elles; David Elles, Brian Elles, Susan Elles Smith and Jonathon Elles; nine great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter, and one step grandson, several nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, David & Ida Fuehrer Risk; her husband, Everett W. Elles died, March 11, 1995; her son, Donald Elles died, January 19, 2009; her brother, Robert Risk; her sister, Lois Bryant died, Dec. 22, 2010.
Violet was raised in the Benham Community in Ripley County and attended school there. Violet was united in marriage to Everett W. Elles. She resided in Madison for many years and retired from the U.S. Shoe Corporation after 25 years of service. She was a devoted wife, mother & grandmother. She lived in Hanover for nearly 20 years before moving back to Madison for several years. She enjoyed embroidery work, raising flowers and working in her gardens. She had resided the past three years in Hanover.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 14, at 1:00 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, with Pastor Troy Hedges officiating. Burial will be in the Grandview Memorial Gardens near Madison. Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home. Geneva Faye "Hound" Fox
Geneva Faye "Hound" Fox, 80, of Greencastle, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2012. She was born on March 30, 1931 in Morehead, Kentucky, the daughter of Ora Russell Gilkison and Lucy Sloan Gilkison.
A graduate of Rowan County Kentucky High School, she married Grover C. Fox on June 16, 1949 in southern Indiana, and they farmed in Holton.
Hound and Grover moved to Kentucky where they owned and operated Fox’s General Store in Morehead. They moved back to Indiana, living in Greenwood first, and then settled in Putnam County in 1973.
Mrs. Fox was a member of Big Walnut Baptist Church in Reelsville, and currently was attending Life Builder Community Church in Greencastle.
Surviving are her daughters, Kathleen Faye Fox of Tempe, AZ, and Kimberly Dean and husband James of Greencastle, with whom she was living; her beloved aunt, Bessie Sloan Stone of Morehead, KY; four grandchildren, Michael Shawn Fox of Tempe, AZ, Candy Alexander and husband Scott of Greencastle, Keena Butler of Greencastle, and Camden Dean of Greencastle; five great-grandchildren, Samara Alexander, Everett Alexander, Payton Butler, Triston Butler and Skylar Butler; several cousins, numerous friends; her beloved dog who she rescued in an ice storm, Furby; and a grandbaby dog, Chi Chi. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Thurman; her husband, Grover C. Fox; and her beloved miniature schnauzer, Matilda.
Hound was an avid collector of Boyd’s Bears and enjoyed yard sales, thrift stores, jewelry and gardening. Her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends.
Funeral services are being held on Thursday, January 5, at 1 P.M. at Hopkins –Rector Funeral Home, with Pastor Bobby Hopper officiating. Interment will follow at Boone-Hutcheson Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 11 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.

Carl A. Huesman
Carl A. Huesman, 78, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, formerly of Osgood, passed away at the Osceola Regional Medical Center in Kissimmee, FL, December 29, 2011.
Mr. Huesman was born October 5, 1933, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of John and Maude Huesman. He had two sisters, Lillian Miller, who preceded him in death, and June Gilliland, 85, of Cincinnati.
Mr. Huesman married Betty, daughter of Frank and Florence Wheelden, on August 27, 1960 and recently celebrated 51 years of marriage; she survives.
Mr. Huesman worked for the Batesville Casket Company as a metals purchaser, factory foreman, and logistics coordinator, retiring in 2000. After his retirement, he and Betty moved to Kissimmee, FL.
Mr. Huesman is also survived by three children and two grandchildren: Tish Aguero and husband Charlie of Kissimmee, FL; Jack Huesman and his wife Chris of Osgood and their daughter Delaney; and Mandy Huesman of Osgood and her daughter Brenna.
Mr. Huesman gave his life and soul to Christ on his 25th birthday, and his family and friends take comfort in the knowledge that he is now in Heaven with the Lord where they will be reunited one day.
A memorial service is planned at Mr. Huesman’s home church, Lighthouse Baptist in Intercession City, FL. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Diabetes Association.

Daniel Charles Brunner
Daniel Charles Brunner, age 53 of Napoleon, passed away Monday, January 2, 2012 at his home. He was born May 6, 1958 in Batesville, to the parents of Charles Irvin and Ethel Crowell Brunner. Both are deceased.
Daniel had been employed at the Newpoint Stone Company in Napoleon. He also had worked for Jeff Meinders of Milan, in excavating and construction and earlier for Johannigman Excavating & Construction Inc. of Greensburg. In his earlier years he was a truck driver for Batesville Casket Company. Daniel was a life time member of NRA and also a member of ABATE .
Survivors include brothers, James "Milt" (Ona) Peetz of Napoleon, Thomas Richard (Patricia) Peetz of Batesville, and John "Pink" Peetz of Napoleon; sisters, Susan Ann (Rocky) White of Napoleon and Charlotte Adele (Boyd) Vanover of Batesville.
Visitation is being held today, Thursday, from 5-8 p.m. at Neal's Funeral Home, Osgood. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 6, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, doors open at 9 a.m. Burial will be in the St. Maurice Catholic Cemetery of Napoleon.
