Various weather models are forecasting a great day for Saturday and that’s just what organizers of the Versailles Fun on the Square Day are hoping for.

The 18th Annual Chamber 5K Walk/Run will kick off the day at 8:00 a.m. on the square in Versailles. If you have not registered before race day, there will be registration that morning from 7 a.m. until 7:50 in front of the former Chamber office on the east side of the square.

There will be medals awarded in each category that includes all ages from 13 and under to 60 and over. The top three in each age group - male and female - will receive a gold, silver, or bronze medal.

For more information on the Ripley County Chamber of Commerce’s annual event or to register call 812-689-6654

For those who want to get a real early start, they can enjoy breakfast at the Versailles F&AM #7 Lodge from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. They are located just a half block from the square. Everyone is welcome to the free will donation meal.

While walkers and runners are gearing up for the race they will experience the tantalizing smells of chicken being cooked by members of the Versailles Lions Club. This will be served at 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. The 45th annual event will see members of the club serving the famous barbecued chicken with all the trimmings. In keeping with the Lions tradition, all of the proceeds will be given back to the community.

There is more to come. The 13th Annual Versailles American Legion Car Show will also take place on this day. Registration is from 8 a.m. until noon.

There will be cash prizes every half hour from noon until 4 p.m. when the awards will be given for the top 100 plus 12 special trophies. Rich Anthony will provide D.J. service for the afternoon that is sure to take you back in time as some vintage vehicles begin to arrive. For more information on the car show you can contact Ray Ruble at 812-663-4102 after 5 p.m.

The day is jam packed with family friendly events for everyone to enjoy.
