Anthony Prater, 30 of Osgood, recently pled guilty and was sentenced on a Class A Felony charge of Child Molest.

Prater was sentenced to 30 years with the Indiana Department of Corrections, with ten years suspended to probation.

According to Ripley County Prosecutor Ric Hertel, the criminal acts were perpetrated against a child under the age of 14. The charge was filed against Prater in December of last year.

Prosecutor Hertel was pleased with the plea agreement. He said, “This sentence is a direct result of a quality investigation started and finished by the Indiana State Police Detective (Tracy Rohlfing).” He went on to say, “Any time you can avoid putting a young child through the rigors of a jury trial, running the risk of a not guilty verdict and still obtaining a sentence of this significance and magnitude, is a credit to the investigation and the law enforcement officer that was involved. Cross examination can be torturous to a young child.”

Following Prater’s release from prison he will be required to register as a sex offender and follow all terms and conditions set forth by the sex offender registry.
