Lisa Marie Gehl
Lisa Marie Gehl age 43, of Batesville, passed away Friday, March 25, 2011 at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born January 18, 1968 in Batesville, the daughter of Nicholas E. and Marlene Hoff Riehle. She married James Philip Gehl on June 18, 1988 at St. John's Church of Christ on Huntersville Road in Batesville, and he survives.
Other survivors include parents, Nicholas E. and Marlene Hoff Riehle of Batesville; sons, Brandon Gehl of Versailles, Matthew and Cameron Gehl of Batesville; daughters, Jillian and Katelyn Gehl of Batesville; brothers, Randy Riehle of Holton, Troy Riehle of Bradenton, FL; sisters, Pam Gutzwiller of Batesville, Bonnie Huff of Osgood; and parents-in-law, Philip and Ruth Gehl of Batesville. She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Debbie Riehle.
Lisa worked as a Medical Assistant for Family Medicine of Batesville. She attended Hopewell Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 28, at the Hopewell Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Memorials may be given to the family, Leukemia or donor's choice.

Esther L. Edmondson
Esther L. Edmondson, 77, of Sunman, passed away Monday, March 21, 2011, at her home. She was born September 15, 1933 at Milan, the daughter of Harvey and Dorothy (Brandt) Lauber. She married Roy Rohrig in 1954, and he passed away in 1969. She later married Guy Edmondson in 1973 and he preceded her in death in 1988. She was also preceded in death by a son, Dale Rohrig in 1981.
Survivors include son, Wayne Rohrig of Milan; daughters, Carla Rohrig of Sunman and Bonny Smith of Milan; brothers, Bob (Posey) Lauber of Sunman, Donnie (Peggy) Lauber of Westville, FL; sisters, Bernetta Dobson of Floyds Knobs and Janice Hosmer of Sunman; six grandchildren; stepchildren, Tom, Dan, Larry, Jackie and Gary Edmondson; and many friends and neighbors.
Mrs. Edmondson was a cashier at Clover Farm Grocery for four years and later worked at Dryer’s Nursing Home. She was very active with the Farm Bureau having served as secretary/treasurer for District 10 for 20+ years, and was a county board member from 1957-1962 and 1976 to the present. Esther was a 4-H leader, MYF leader, and had held numerous offices in the St. Paul Methodist Church which she joined when she was 10 years old.
Esther served on the Red Cross Board for six years and also was a historical board member.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 25, at the St. Paul Methodist Church in Sunman, with Pastor Duane Loos officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice. Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan, was in charge of arrangements.

Norbert J. Moeller
Norbert J. Moeller, 89, of Richmond, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at the Friends Fellowship Center. He was born near Greensburg on October 2, 1921, the son of John and Dora Hellmich Moeller.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Julia Goodwin Moeller; two sons, David (Sandra) Moeller of Glenwood and Patrick (Jessica) Moeller of Lafayette; three daughters, Linda (Norman) Cooney of FL, Cathy (Tom) Barth of Richmond, and Maryann (Peter) Monfiletto of CO; 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; two sisters, Henrietta (Rea) Carroll of Osgood and Marita Cherry of Greensburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Phillip, great granddaughter Erica Hummer, and brothers Walter, Maurice, John and Robert Moeller.
Mr. Moeller was a 1939 graduate of Greensburg High School and a 1943 graduate of Purdue University with a degree in animal science, and did his post graduate work at the University of Wisconsin. He was an Army Veteran of WWII, where he was discharged with the rank of Lieutenant. He worked for Kraft foods and was a member of the Purdue faculty where he retired after 30 years as a professor of dairy science. He was also active in 4-H throughout Indiana in dairy judging and had written many books and pamphlets on the care of dairy cattle.
Norbert was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church where Mass of Christian burial took place on March 19 with burial in the St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery. The Doan and Mills Funeral Home of Richmond was in charge of arrangements.

Fred Pohlman
Fred Pohlman, 87, of Milan, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2011, at St. Andrew’s Health Campus at Batesville. He was born August 23, 1923 in Milan, the son of Fred G. and Anna (Hobbs) Pohlman. He married Eleanor (Koons) Pohlman, on December 5, 1947 and she survives.
Other survivors include daughter, Jan (Tom) Luers of Batesville; granddaughter, Ann (Bill) Bunnell of Greenfield; great grandchildren Jackson, Madison and Katelyn Bunnell; and nephew, Bob Coffee of Garland, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents and two half sisters, Mildred Coffee and Margurite Rudolph.
Mr. Pohlman retired from Schenley Distillers after 43 years of service and he was also a farmer. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Stumpke’s Corner, where he had served on the church council and was a board member of the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Fred was a member of Farm Bureau.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 28, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Milan, with Rev. Ron Haseley and Rev. Charles Miller officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Memorials may be given to the St. Paul Lutheran Church, St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery or Milan Rescue 30. Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan, was entrusted with arrangements.

Fred McFarland
Fred McFarland, 56, of Milan, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2011 at his home. He was born December 5, 1954, in Rockhold, KY, the son of Earl and Retha (Cupp) McFarland. He married Darla McFarland and she survives.
Other survivors include sons, Micah (Jennifer) McFarland of Holton, Jacob (Mindy) McFarland of Milan, Matthew McFarland of Milan; parents, Earl (Mary) McFarland of Milan; brothers, Arthur (Carol) McFarland of South Lebanon, OH, Clarence (Joyce) McFarland of Hamilton, OH, Glennis (Gwin) McFarland of Oxford, OH; sisters, Maxine (David) Jones of Williamsburg, KY, Mabel (Nick) Couch of Brookville, Donna (Larry) Bittner of Brookville, and Betty (Steve) Martin of Hamilton, OH; grandchildren, Krista, Dylan McFarland, Jasmine Lutz and Aiden McFarland. He was preceded in death by mother Retha McFarland, and mom Georgia McFarland.
Fred worked at Hamilton Foundry in Harrison, OH and Z F Bogo Foundry in Hebron, KY.

George Raymond Grubbs
George Raymond Grubbs, 75, of West Harrison, formerly of Osgood, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2011 in Harrison, Ohio. He was born February 29, 1936, in Dearborn Co., the son of the late Emery and Marie (Courter) Grubbs.
Survivors include daughters, Cindy (David) Strunk, and Debbie (Ernest) Walston, both of Versailles; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and sister, Vera Socher of Cleves, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his sister, Anna Mae Edmonds.
Mr. Grubbs retired from National Lead of Ohio and was a US Coast Guard Veteran during Vietnam.
Visitation is being held today, Tuesday, from 12 noon until time of services at 2 p.m., all at Jackman Kercheval Meyers Funeral Home, Harrison, Ohio, with Rev. Dr. Harold Shackelford officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Cleves, Ohio.

Daniel H. Fischer
Daniel H. Fischer, 49, of Versailles, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2011 at the Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville. He was born at Lawrenceburg on October 27, 1961 the son of Ralph and Loa McCauley Fischer. He was married to Carol Rosebrock on April 16, 2005 and she survives.
Other survivors include one son Gary (Emily) Fischer of Patriot; two daughters Amber Fischer of Aurora and Anna Rose Browning of Versailles; stepchildren Stephen Huntington II of Osgood and Breanna Huntington of Versailles; three step-grandchildren; his father and mother-in-law Jim and Clarris Rosebrock of Versailles; two brothers Jack (Irene) Fischer of Greendale and Charles (Jane) Fischer of Aurora; and one sister Ann (Donald) Edwards of Versailles. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Fischer was a 1979 graduate of South Ripley High School. He was a diesel mechanic for Edwards Towing in Versailles and had worked for Stutler Paving in Milan. His other places of employment included the Whispering Pines Pay Lake, Southeastern Rural Telephone, and he had tended bar at the Drake Lounge in Madison. He was a member of the Bear Creek Baptist Church in Friendship.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 14 at the Bear Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Sherman Hughes officiating. Burial was in the Akers Friendship Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the church or St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery at Dewberry in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home, Versailles.

Jonathan Richard Combs
Jonathan Richard Combs, 34, of Lawrenceburg, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2011. Greeley Gay
Greeley Gay, age 92, passed away on March 14, 2011, at Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville, Indiana. He was born at Shoal, Leslie County, Kentucky, on August 7, 1918, to Allen Lewis Gay and Mary Belle Gay. He grew up on the Middle Fork of the Kentucky River, attending various one-room schools throughout the area. He attended Witherspoon College at Buckhorn, Kentucky for the first two years of high school, then traveled to Des Moines, Iowa to complete his high school education.
After graduating from Des Moines East High School in 1936, he worked as a stringer and then a reporter for the Des Moines Dispatch, covering the local courts, politics and the statehouse. It was this exposure to the 1930’s New Deal politics of Roosevelt that turned him into the lifelong Democrat that he was.
With a European war forecast, he enlisted in the Army in March, 1941, and served in the US Cavalry medical corps., lancing boils in west Texas. After Pearl Harbor, with more serious intention, he was enrolled in the Army Air Corps, training as a pilot. He received his pilot’s certification and his wings on June 26, 1943, and headed to Europe in the late fall of 1943. Piloting a B-17 Flying Fortress bomber out of an 8th Air Force base in the midlands of England, he flew twelve missions over France and Germany. He then transferred to the 15th Air Force in Foggia, Italy. He flew the remainder of his 51 bombing missions over Italy, France, Germany and Eastern Europe. He received the Air Medal and three Oak Leaf Clusters. He returned to the US in late summer of 1944, and continued instructor’s training and flying training missions over the US. He was discharged from the Army as a First Lieutenant in the summer of 1945.
Upon returning to his family home in Eastern Kentucky, he met and married Gladys Irene Moberg, from Canton, South Dakota. He used his GI Bills benefits to attend the University of Cincinnati, and University of Kentucky, where he received his law degree in August 1949. Having passed both the Kentucky and Indiana Bar Exams, he and his young family moved to Versailles where in November, 1949, he opened his law practice. He practiced law for 40 years in Versailles, serving as an advocate for those without representation and as a champion of the underdog.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Gladys, his parents Allen and Mary Belle Gay, his brothers, Craig and Denver, his sisters, Pearl, Billie and Adelaide. He is survived by his children; son Bill Gay and wife, Ann, of Versailles; daughter Mary Ann Gay of Versailles; son Jack Gay and wife SuEtta of North Vernon; and daughter Susan Gay of Cincinnati, Ohio. Also surviving are his hopes for the future, his beloved grandchildren, Jennifer Eaton Gay, Julia Caitlan Gay, and William Gay.
Visitation will be Monday, March 21, from 6-8 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Ripley County Voiture 40&8 Nurses Scholarship Program.

James R. Sheets
James R. Sheets, 94, of Cambridge City, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2011 at Ambassador Health Care in Centerville, Indiana. He was born on December 16, 1916 in Dabney, the son of Russel Clare and Ollie Ethel Raney Sheets. He married Virginia Shewman on February 8, 1942, and she preceded him in death on March 2, 2004.
Survivors include daughter, Glenda (Steve) Centers of West Peoria, IL; two sons, Douglas M. (Christina Clevenger) Sheets of Centerville, and Darryl J. Sheets of Cambridge City; six grandchildren, Shamra Cochran Noy, Scott and Chris Cochran all of IL, Justin Sheets of NJ, Amanda Sheets Sims of Indianapolis, Stacy Sheets of KY and a step grandchild Brandy Hamilton Crawford of MN; six great-grandchildren; three step great-grandsons; nieces and nephews; and special friends Stanley Market, Sim Haler, Evening Kiwanis and the friends at Burger King and Lumpy’s.
Mr. Sheets graduated from high school in 1934 at Holton and lived most of his life in Cambridge City. He was first employed by the Indiana School for the Deaf from 1935 to 1940. He joined the Indiana State Police in July of 1940 and retired as Staff Captain in December 1971. He owned an independent insurance agency and real estate business d.b.a.: James Sheets and Son Agency from January 1972 to December 2009.
Jim served on the Western Wayne School Board from 1972 through 1992, holding several positions including president, and the Sheriff’s Merit Board from 1972 through 1992. He was a member of the Evening Kiwanis for 40 years and served as president. Jim was a 66- year member of Cambridge Lodge #5 F&AM and earned his 32nd Degree as a member of the Indianapolis Valley of Scottish Rite. He was awarded the Indiana Sagamore of the Wabash in 1968 by Gov. Branigan, Kentucky Colonels in 1971 by Gov. Ford and the Cambridge City Citizen of the Year in 1991.
Mr. Sheets was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Cambridge City.
Funeral Mass was held on Friday, March 11, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Cambridge City with Fr. Joseph Rautenberg officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Cambridge City.

Neva Wright
Neva Wright, 95, of Rexville passed away Friday, March 11, 2011 at the Waters of Clifty Falls at Madison. She was born in the Marble Corner community near Rexville on May 29, 1915 the daughter of Fred and Effie Thomas Flint. She was married to Walter Wright on September 10, 1937 and he preceded her in death on July 7, 2010.
Survivors include three daughters, Phyllis (Earl) May and Brenda (Danny) Myers both of Rexville and Sharon (Forest) Sandefur of Greensburg; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her son Wayne.
Mrs. Wright was a 1933 graduate of New Marion High School. She was a member of the New Marion Baptist Church and participated in the ABWM. Neva had worked as a cook at the New Marion School for 11 years and was also a homemaker.
Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday, at 11 a.m. at the New Marion Baptist Church with Rev. Harold Carter officiating. Burial will be in the West Fork Cemetery near Rexville. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church. Bill Dobson
Bill Dobson, 76, of Versailles, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2011, at the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born at Milan on January 29, 1935, the son of Omar and Nellie Mosier Dobson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Gene and Russell Dobson, and sisters Audrey Drummins and Mary Hull.
Mr. Dobson was an Army veteran and a former employee of Hillenbrand Industries in Batesville.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 16 at 11 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home with burial in the Tanglewood Cemetery. Visitation will also be Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of services. Memorials may be given to the Tanglewood Cemetery in care of the funeral home.

Donna Jean Fehrman
Donna Jean Fehrman, 80, of Dillsboro, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2011, at her home. She was born November 29, 1930 in Switzerland County, the daughter of John W. Tindle and Eleanor Geiske Tindle. She married Thomas M. Fehrman in June 1949.
Surviving is her husband, Pastor Thomas Fehrman of Dillsboro; son, Charlie T. (Debi) Fehrman of Fishers; four grandchildren, Craig Thomas (Candice), Sarah Elizabeth, Rebekah Marie, and Hannah Michelle; brother, William Robert (Pat) Tindle of Versailles, and sister, Marsha Lamson of Vevay. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jennifer Lynne.
Mrs. Fehrman graduated from Aurora High School in 1948. She worked in the family businesses, including a gas station and restaurant in Aurora and a hardware store in Dillsboro. She was a Christian and active in several churches in the area, including Washington Baptist Church in Elrod, New Testament Baptist Church in Penntown, and Ebenezer Baptist Church in Aurora. She was also a significant part of Camp Chazon, a summer youth camp for students and families, which she helped found in 1970. Donna Jean oversaw the kitchen operations of the camp.
Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro, with her son, Pastor Charlie Fehrman officiating. Burial will be in Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison. Memorials may be given to the Ladies Missionary Society of Ebenezer Baptist Church or to The Pointe Community Church in Fishers. Mattie Raper
Mattie Raper, 92, of Versailles passed away Saturday, February 26, 2011 at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. She was born at Watertown, Tennessee on May 22, 1918 the daughter of Jasper and Attie Taylor Midgett. She was married to Norman Raper and he preceded her in death on May 13, 1987.
Survivors include two sons, Herbert Raper and Ronald (Debbie) Raper both of Versailles. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, her brothers Hugh, J.T., Robert, Wheeler, and Sherman Midgett, and her sisters Bertha Kirby, Francis Doyle, and her twin sister Hattie Pack.
Mrs. Raper was a homemaker and assisted her husband and sons with their farm.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 2 at 1 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Pastor James Culver of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Olean officiating. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles. Visitation will be today, Tuesday, from 6-8 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Cliff Hill Cemetery in care of the funeral home.

Charles Smith, Jr.
Charles Smith, Jr., 66, of Moores Hill, passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was born on July 30, 1944, in Guilford, the son of Charlie and Georgie (Jordan) Smith. His wife of 33 years, Barbara Smith, survives.
Other survivors include sons, Todd (Alessandra Contu’) Smith of Lake Wells, FL, Shad (Nichole) Hankins of Milan, and Keith (Amber) Smith of Milan; daughter, Brittany Smith of Milan; sisters, Donna Thomas of Florence, Diane Edwards of Versailles, Florine Eldridge of Batesville, Dorine Kash of Sunman; and six grandchildren.
Mr. Smith was a self-employed carpenter and plumber. He belonged to the Hope Baptist Church, Dillsboro. He was a member of the United Carpenters Union and AA.
A memorial service is being held today, Tuesday, at 5:30 p.m. at the Hope Baptist Church in Dillsboro, with Pastor Tom Holt officiating.
