Jac-Cen-Del Eagle varsity
boys secure a pair of late season conference wins on the road
Gary Franklin, Sports Writer
In leading up to the regular season finale where rival JCD
and South Ripley butt heads for the regular season wrap, the
Eagles have claimed a pair of road wins.
Eagles vs Shiners
JCD traveled to Rising Sun High School, where they contested
the Shiners to a varsity 15 point victory, 64-49, by game's
end
The Eagles enjoyed a narrow one point lead at the end of the
first period at 16-15, however, second period action left
them wondering what had hit them as they left the court for
the half time break trailing by seven, 25-32,
A much stronger defensive effort by the Eagles, a pair of
long distance 3-pointers by senior Eagle Joe Abplanalp and
three senior Trevor Arnett FG's in the third period left a
totally different look to the game as the period ended with
JCD on top by 16 at 50-34.
Though the Shiners managed to out score the Eagles 15-14 in
the fourth period, it was much too little, much too late,
allowing JCD to finish on the job as the 15 point victor at
64-49.

For the game, FG shooting heavily favored JCD with 23 to 13
for RS. FT shooting however favored the Shiners as they connected
on 8/9 attempts while the Eagles could only put down 6/10
tries. Three point shooting also went the Shiners direction
at 5 to 4 for JCD.
The JCD vs RS match up could be repeated in the IHSAA Class
1A Boys Sectional championship game at South Decatur HS as
the two teams were drawn in a manner that should they each
win to the final game, face each other yet again this year.
The Shawe Memorial Hilltoppers face the Rising Sun Shiners
in the opener. The Jac-Cen-Del Eagles battle the Oldenburg
Academy Twisters in their first round battle with the winner
earning a spot in the championship battle. The hosting South
Decatur Cougars play the winner of the opening Shawe vs Rising
Sun contest with the winner earning the remaining spot in
a battle for the sectional championship and an extended season
in regional action.
Eagles vs Pacers
JCD traveled to Switzerland County High School at Vevay, where
they contested the Pacers to an 11 point varsity victory,
71-60.
The Eagle varsity again enjoyed a narrow edge at the end of
one quarter's play, up two points at 17-15, at the horn's
sounding. By the conclusion of the first half, the Eagles
had maintained the narrow two point edge, but could not gain
any distance on the Pacers. The second period ended with JCD
at 31-29 over SC.
Again in the third period of play, a much stronger defensive
effort was afforded by the Eagles, along with a three FG and
two FT offensive effort by Eagle senior Derek Lunsford that
helped JCD move to a seven point edge over the Pacers at 47-40
at the end of the third period.
Though the Pacers managed to score 20 points in the final
period, the Eagles connected to add 24, concluding the game
with a JCD 11 point victory at 71-60.
A second on the road conference challenge met late in the
season with a positive outcome for the Eagles and JCD's Coach
David Bradshaw.
