James
A. Hyatt
James A. Hyatt, 69, of Milan, passed away Monday, January 24,
2011 at Margaret Mary Hospital at Batesville. He was born December
19, 1941, in Milan, the son of James John and Gladys Pearl (Moehring)
Hyatt. He married Ruth E. (Davis) Hyatt on July 26, 1967, and
she survives.
Other survivors include sons, Yatzie (Sue) Roysden of Milan,
Gary (Diane) Hyatt of LA, Billy (Melissa) Hyatt of Hebron, KY;
daughters, Pam (Dale) Holbert of Milan and Karissa (Drew) Olman
of Indianapolis; mother Gladys Hyatt of Milan; brothers, Richard
Hyatt of Sunman and Raymond Hyatt of NC; sister, Jo Ann McGuire
of Milan; grandchildren, Christina and Kelsy Holbert, Ryan and
Grant Hyatt, Shelby Tracey, Tasha Roysden and R. L. Rose; and
great grandchildren, Tessa Kay Rose and Emma Claire Hyatt. He
was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Hyatt.
Mr. Hyatt was an employee of Batesville Casket Co. and a former
member of the Milan Volunteer Fire Department and the Versailles
American Legion. He had served on the Dillsboro Police Department
and was an assistant track coach at Milan High School and as
a girls youth softball coach. James was an assistant scout master
with Boy Scout Troop 631. He had served in the US Army.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 28, at 11 a.m.
at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan, with Rev. Harris Long
officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in St. Charles
Cemetery at Milan. Visitation is being held today, Thursday,
from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to
the Make A Wish Foundation, Shriners Childrens Hospital or Milan
First Responders. Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan, is entrusted
with arrangements.
David Owen Huntington
David Owen Huntington, 67, of Dearborn, Michigan, passed away
Tuesday, January 25, 2011 in Michigan. He was the son of Laurence
and the late Mary Ann (Stewart) Huntington.
Survivors include his father; brothers, Laurence, Jr. (Peggy)
and Donald Huntington; and many other relatives and friends.
Mr. Huntington graduated from Lincoln Park Schools and attended
Kalamazoo College. He served in the US Army in Vietnam. He worked
for Revere Copper and Brass in Detroit and for Complex Steel
and Wire in Wayne, Michigan, retiring in 2008.
Visitation will be Saturday, Jan. 29, from 10-11 a.m. at Sibbett-Moore
Funeral Home, Moores Hill, with funeral services immediately
following. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery, Moores
Hill. Military rites at graveside by Moores Hill American Legion
Post 209. Memorials may be given to the Lincoln Park Methodist
Church in care of Sibbett-Moore Funeral Home, who is in charge
of arrangements.
Brian Lee Thackery
Brian Lee Thackery, 55, of New Point, passed away Tuesday, January
25, 2011. Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 28, from 4-8
p.m. with Masonic services at 8 p.m. at the New Point Christian
Church with funeral services on Saturday, at 10 a.m. Burial
will be in the Rossburg Cemetery. Memorials may be given to
the family or donors choice. Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville,

Kathleen Eva Tunny
Kathleen Eva Tunny, 62, of Brownsburg, formerly of Napoleon,
passed away Monday, January 24, 2011. Funeral services are being
held today, Thursday, at 11 a.m. at St. Malachy Catholic Church,
Brownsburg, with burial in the church cemetery. Matthews Mortuary,
Brownsburg, is in charge of arrangements.
Martha E. Kelch
Martha E. Kelch, 89, of Dillsboro, passed away Wednesday, January
26, 2011 at Dearborn County Hospital. Visitation will be held
Sunday, Jan. 30, from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services will be Monday
at 11 a.m., both held at Filter-DeVries Funeral Home, Dillsboro.

William Henry "Bill" McCalip
William Henry "Bill" McCalip, 79, of Vevay, formerly
of Versailles, passed away Monday, January 24, 2011. Funeral
services were held Wednesday, January 26, at Haskell & Morrison
Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer
Society, American Heart Association or the Hospice of South
Central Indiana. Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, Vevay,

Naomi
Strimple
Naomi Strimple, 95, of Osgood passed away Monday, January 17,
2011 at St. Andrews Health Campus in Batesville. She was born
near Versailles on January 11, 1916 the daughter of Harrison
and Mabel Warfield Courtaney. She was married to Hoover Strimple
on February 15, 1936 and he preceded her in death on May 23,
1992.
Survivors include two daughters Kay (Mike) Wells of South Bend
and Mary Lou Mosier of Osgood; three sons Don Strimple of Versailles,
Wayne (Janet) Strimple of Aurora, and Rex (Brenda) Strimple
of Holton; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and
two great-great grandchildren; one brother Gene (Phyllis) Courtaney
of West Lafayette. She was preceded in death by her parents,
her daughter Patsy Asche, and her sister Beatrice Oldham.
Mrs. Strimple was a 1934 graduate of Versailles High School.
She was a homemaker and had worked as a cook in the Jac-Cen-Del
schools. Naomi was a member of the Tanglewood Baptist Church
and the Versailles Eastern Star.
Funeral services are being held today, Thursday, at 2 p.m. at
Tanglewood Baptist Church with Rev. Russell Stephens officiating.
Burial will be in the Tanglewood Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Tanglewood Cemetery in care of
the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home, Versailles.
Merle Keith Schultz
Merle Keith Schultz, 75, of Moores Hill, passed away Monday,
January 17, 2011 at University of Cincinnati, OH. He was born
June 9, 1935, in Milan, the son of William Cecil and Pauline
Viola (Walker) Schultz. He married Rose (Gerhardt) Schultz on
June 9, 1956 and she preceded him in death on September 2, 2001.
Survivors include daughter, Deborah (John) Scott of Osgood;
two grandchildren, Jennifer Schultz (friend Jeremy Whisman)
and Brittany Scott; three great grandchildren, Samantha Caudill,
Dylan Johnson, and Cody Whisman. He was preceded in death by
his wife, one great grandchild, Jacob Johnson, and one brother,
Bill Schultz.
Mr. Schultz was a former owner/operator of Schultz Hardware
in Moores Hill. He belonged to the Moores Hill American Legion
Post 209, the 9th District Legion and the 40&8, Ohio and
Indiana Fire Fighter Association, and was a former Moores Hill
Fire Chief. He was a member of the Moores Hill Rescue 4 Unit,
Sexton of the Forest Hill Cemetery, Ringman for the NEAT Auction
Team.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 22, at 11 a.m.
at Sibbett-Moore Funeral Home, Moores Hill, with Pastor David
Shivers officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 5-8 p.m.
at the funeral home. Military services will be conducted by
the Moores Hill American Legion Post 209. Memorials may be given
to the Moores Hill Fire Department/Rescue Unit or Moores Hill
American Legion. Sibbett-Moore Funeral Home has been entrusted

Dale Benham
Dale Benham, 73, of Osgood, passed away Tuesday, January 18,
2011, at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. He was
born near Osgood on August 22, 1937, the son of Chauncey and
Ruth Powers Benham. He married Bonnie Holman on February 3,
1957 and she survives.
Other survivors include one daughter, Beverly Tebbe of Vevay;
four sons, Raymond (Peggy) Benham, Kenneth (Tonya) Benham, Greg
(Marisa) Benham, and Tim Benham all of Osgood; 14 grandchildren;
14 great grandchildren; three brothers, Jim Benham of Greensburg,
Raymond Benham of Lexington, NE, and David Benham of Osgood;
five sisters, Helen (Kenny) Mitterling of Greensburg, Helena
(Jim) Fruchtnicht of Napoleon, Jean (Bill) Arthur and Pam (David)
Hall both of North Vernon, and Phyllis (Bill) Wynn of Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Robert,
Victor, Pete and John Benham, sisters Mary Herbert, Lillian
Riley and Betty Wilson.
Mr. Benham was a lifelong logger and horse puller. He was inducted
into the Horse Pullers Hall of Fame and set a world record with
his lightweight team in 1990. He also set records in nearly
all 50 states, including Indiana. He was a member of the Cedar
Creek Community Church.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 22, at 11 a.m.
at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev.
Garland Rudd officiating. Burial will be in the Benham Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 5-8 p.m. Memorials may be given
to the donors choice in care of the funeral home.

Rosella
Holzer
Rosella Holzer, 91, of Versailles passed away Monday, January
10, 2011 at her home. She was born in Indianapolis on January
29, 1919 the daughter of Joseph and Josephine Glaub Meister.
She was married to Cletus Holzer on May 25, 1940 and he preceded
her in death on June 6, 2008.
Survivors
include three sons J. Cletus (Kathi) Holzer of Trion, Georgia;
John (Carol) Holzer of Versailles, and Mark (Janet) Holzer of
Kernersville, North Carolina; four daughters Marie (Don) Strobel
of Franklin, R. Joan (Leon) Sarringhaus of Hollister, California,
Patricia Durlacher of Jacksonville, Florida, and Aletha (Owen,
Jr.) Heaton of Cross Plains; 27 grandchildren and 60 great-grandchildren;
one brother Paul (Glenda) Meister of Osgood; one sister Betty
Rouse of Batesville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Lenora
Kool, and her brothers Robert, Bill, John, Frank, and Joe Meister.
Mrs. Holzer was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Osgood
for over 60 years where she participated in the PCCW. She was
also a member of the Ripley County Red Hatters and the Do-A-Lot
Home Ec Club in Versailles. She along with her husband owned
and operated the Court House Inn in Versailles and also worked
in the John Holzer and Son Grocery in Versailles. Mrs. Holzer
retired from the sewing room at Muscatatuck and during the Great
Depression she had worked as a nanny for a family in Indianapolis.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, January 17 at 10 a.m.
at St. John's Catholic Church with Father Frank Eckstein and
Father Shaun Whittington officiating. Burial will be in the
Cliff Hill Cemetery at Versailles. Visitation will be Sunday
from 3 - 7 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles
with Rosary services at 7 p.m.
Memorials may be given to the Cliff Hill Cemetery in care of
the funeral home.
Velma Jo Banta McKay
Velma Jo Banta McKay, 77, of Henryville, formerly of Vevay and
Kent, passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2011. Funeral services
will be held Saturday, January 15, at Morgan & Nay Funeral
Centre, Madison, with burial in the Vevay Cemetery. Visitation
will be Friday, from 4-8 p.m. and Saturday, from 9 a.m. until
time of services at the funeral home. Memorials may be given
to the Louisville Bible College. Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre,
Madison, is in charge of arrangements.
Beverly Lee
Lotshaw Herin
Beverly Lee Lotshaw Herin, 73, of Canaan, passed away Monday,
January 10, 2011 at The Waters of Clifty Falls, Madison. She
was born March 11, 1937 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of
Eugene and Golda Hazel Lotshaw. She married Ralph E. Herin of
Canaan, on September 22, 1958, and he survives.
Other survivors include son, Stephen Herin of Canaan; daughters,
Belinda McIntyre (Joe) of West Chester, Ohio; Beth Michelle
Herin of Columbus, Ohio; brother, Robert Lotshaw (Pam) of Peoria,
Arizona; grandchildren, Kimberly Cline (John); Sara Welsh, Joseph
Michael McIntyre (Jennifer), Matthew David McIntyre; six great
grandchildren; several nieces, nephews; one great niece and
other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law
Franklin Herin, sisters-in-law Ruth Bevis and Dorothy Sellers.
Mrs. Herin was raised in Ripley County and was a 1954 graduate
of Versailles High School. She was a member of the Hicks
Baptist Church and had served on the ladies aid with the church.
Beverly was a leader for the Jefferson County 4-H for over 30
years. She was a member of the Jefferson County Farm Bureau
and was named Farm Wife of the Year and had served as a board
member.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 14, at 1 p.m.
at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison, with Pastor
Ron Lee officiating. Burial will be in the Grandview Memorial
Gardens near Madison. Visitation is being held today, Thursday,
from 4-8 p.m. and Friday, from 11 a.m. until time of services
at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the American
Lung Association. Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, Madison,

P. Cole
Ruth P. Cole, 88, of Holton passed away Monday, January 3, 2011
at the Silver Memories Health Center at Versailles. She was
born near Osgood on March 11, 1922 the daughter of Albert and
Clara Marie Kelley Hardebeck. She was married to Lawrence
Cole on December 24, 1938 and he preceded her in death on February
1, 1982.
Survivors include one son Lanny (Carolyn) Cole of Rexville;
two daughters Rita (Philip) Meisberger of New Marion and Judy
Powers and her companion Doug Harper of Holton; 12 grandchildren,
23 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and
six step-grandchildren; one brother Leo Hardebeck of Napoleon;
one sister Diana (George) Shelton of Norfolk, Arkansas. She
was also preceded in death by her parents, her son Leon Cole,
daughter-in-law Jo-Ann Cole, son-in-law Omer Powers, her brothers
Roy (Rabbit), Charles, and Danny Hardebeck, and her sisters
Hope Hardebeck, Colleen Elston, Vivian Sutton, and Jeanette
Kluemper; and great granddaughter, Kayleigh Meister.
Mrs. Cole was a member of the New Marion Baptist Church. She
was a former employee of US Shoe at Osgood and was a homemaker.
Funeral services are being held today, Thursday, at 2 p.m. at
the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev.
Karen Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in the Greendale
Cemetery at Osgood. Visitation will be Thursday from 12 p.m.
until time of services. Memorials may be given to the Greendale
Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
