The
Southeastern Career Center was burglarized and vandalized sometime
between the hours of 11 p.m. Monday, October 18 and 4 a.m. Tuesday,
October 19, according to Versailles Town Marshal Joe Mann.
Marshal Mann received a call about 5 a.m. Tuesday morning from
the Ripley County Sheriffs Department, who had arrived
first on the scene at the school. While Mann wasnt on
duty at that time, he responded along with his deputy marshal
Lee Mathews. We knew we needed to get in and out of there
because school would be starting soon, Mann told The
Versailles Republican.
Indiana State Police Crime Scene technician Rob Ewing was also
contacted to process the scene.
Some classes were delayed slightly on Tuesday, but the school
was back in full operation by the afternoon.
Mann noted that it was a case of hit and miss vandalism
and theft that made no sense. He said there was a lot of vandalism
throughout the building with various items taken from the school,
including some cash.
Police believe those responsible for the crimes gained access
to the building through a locked door.
Anyone with leads in this case is asked to contact the Versailles
Police Department at 812-689-6221 or the 911 communication center
at 812-689-5555.
