claims life of SR senior

A crash on Saturday, August 7 has claimed the life of Tanner Lee
Tucker, 17, of Versailles.
According to information from Lt. Randy L. Holt of the Ripley County
Sheriffs Office, Tanner died as a result of a single vehicle
accident on SR 101 at the intersection of CR 600 North, about two
miles north of Milan. The crash occurred about midnight when his
vehicle left the roadway on the right side colliding with the large
oak tree at the intersection.
The police report noted that Tanner was the lone occupant of the
vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Tanner was a senior at South Ripley High School where he had served
as his class president since the eighth grade. He also participated
on the Raider baseball and basketball teams, was a member of Student
Council, Media Tech, and had been a volunteer coach for Special
Olympics.
He planned to attend Purdue in the fall of 2011 and study engineering.
Tanner was well liked and respected in his church, Versailles Baptist,
where he was a member and active in the youth group.
Tanner was born at Columbus on January 13, 1993, the son of Trace
and Denise Thompson Tucker.
Survivors include his parents, brothers Trent and Ty at home, and
sister, Toria, also at home; grandparents, Ray and Marion Tucker
of Dabney and Gordon and Doris Lee Thompson of Knoxville, Illinois.
He is survived by aunts and uncles: Diane Shea of Decatur, Illinois;
Rev. David (Kyle) Thompson of Greensburg; Dana (Carol) Thompson
of Elgin, Illinois; Renea (Bill) Kline of Centerville, Ohio; Terry
(Karen) Tucker of Indianapolis; Becky (Frank) Eaton and Lynn (Mike)
Cumberworth, all of Versailles; and Trevor Tucker of Chicago.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Ginny Tucker.
Visitation for Tanner will be Wednesday, August 11 from 3-8 p.m.
at the Versailles Baptist Church Family Life Center. The funeral
services will be held Thursday, August 12 at 10:30 a.m. at the Versailles
Baptist Church with Rev. David Thompson and Rev. Mike Cantrel officiating.
Burial will be in the Flat Rock Cemetery near Osgood.
Memorials may be given to the donors choice in care of the
Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home.
