Jacob M. Brown, 23, Versailles, has been arrested and charged with Dealing in a Schedule III Controlled Substance.

According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, Brown engaged in the illegal activity on June 15 when police got wind of the deal.

Brown went to his supplier, who was living at an apartment complex in Versailles.
Then Brown went to Osgood where he went to another residence. He later made the delivery of 15 blue oblong tablets, identified by police as schedule III controlled substance.

Court records indicate Brown talked about selling Oxycontin for $50 or $60 a tablet. He also talked about having a “Jake Brown party with some narcotics.”

Police say the controlled buy in Versailles took place within 1000 feet of a public park where several children were engaged in a baseball game.

Versailles Town Marshal Joe Mann and Osgood Town Marshal John Hegge worked together to present enough evidence for formal charges to be filed by Ric Hertel. Those charges were filed July 2 in Ripley County Circuit Court.

Brown was incarcerated at the Ripley County Jail. If convicted, Brown could face up to 20 years in prison.

Both marshals told The Versailles Republican the practice of selling prescription drugs illegally continues to be a battle they will continue to fight.
