Irene
Anna Doyle
Irene Anna Doyle, 97, of Indianapolis, passed away Monday, June
21, 2010. She was born in Ripley County on March 28, 1913, the
daughter of John and Regina Holzer Eckstein. She married Arthur
E. Doyle and he preceded her in death on August 13, 2003.
Survivors include son, Alvin (Darlene) Eckstein; sister, Gertrude
Meisberger of New Marion; seven grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren;
six great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Doyle was employed as a line worker for A&P Bakery
for 24 years before retiring in 1970.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held today, Thursday, at Good
Shepherd Catholic Church of which she was a member. Entombment
will be in the Calvary Mausoleum. Daniel ORiley Funeral
Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mildred Gray
Mildred Gray, 97, of Madison, passed away Tuesday, June 22,
2010 at the Waters of Clifty Falls at Madison. She was born
at Canaan on August 21, 1912, the daughter of Carl and Inez
Leathurbury Etherton. She was married to Earl Gray in 1933 and
he preceded her in death on March 11, 1992.
Survivors include two sons, Keith (Betty) Gray of Madison and
Rick (Mary) Gray of Canaan; seven grandchildren; and six great
grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her
son Ralph, her brothers Earl and Dale Etherton, and her sisters
Marjorie Etherton, Ruby Schaefer, and Neva Sedam.
Mrs. Gray was a 1930 graduate of North Madison High School and
was a member of the Manville Christian Church. She was a former
employee of Mayers in Madison and worked in food service at
Reliance Electric.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 25, at 11 a.m. at
the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Bro.
George Severn of the Manville Christian Church officiating.
Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles. Visitation
will be Friday from 10 a.m. until time of services. Memorials
may be given to the Manville Christian Church in care of the

Ronald Allen Stirn, 71, of Salt Creek, passed away Monday, June
21, 2010 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Visitation will
be held today, Thursday, June 24 from 4-8 p.m. at Meyers Funeral
Home, Batesville and on Friday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time
of services at the Metamora Church of Christ. Funeral services
will be held Friday, June 25 at 10 a.m. at the Metamora Church

Emmalyn Jean Bushorn, infant child of Justin and Natasha (Hartig)
Bushorn of Osgood, passed away Saturday, June 19, 2010 at the
St. Vincents Hospital in Indianapolis.
Survivors include her parents; paternal grandparents Michael
and Georgia (Disney) Bushorn of Milan; maternal grandparents
Benny and Roxanne (Young) Hartig, Sr.; paternal great grandfather
Clifford Bushorn of Lawrenceburg; maternal great grandparents

D. Walters
Otas D. Walters, 80, of Madison, passed away Saturday, June
12, 2010 at the Waters of Clifty Falls, Madison. He was born
on July 9, 1929 in Corbin, Kentucky, the son of Joel Jr. and
Janie May Overcash Walters. He married Irene Jones Walters on
August 28, 1959 and she preceded him in death on March 18, 2007.
Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn (Elmer) Moore of Versailles,
and Kathy (Tim) Bennett of Madison; grandchildren, Michael (Holly)
Leach and Angela Moore; three great grandchildren; two brothers,
Ozene (June) Walters of TN and Bobby (Til) Walters of Madison;
one sister, Zelma Keilbaso of OH; and several other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers Jim,
Lee and Marion "Bud" Walters, sisters Rebecca Carr,
Flora Davis, Randy Bolton and Mary Miller.
Mr. Walters was inducted into the United States Army during
the Korean War and was honorably discharged. He was employed
with the Jefferson Proving Ground for 25 years, retiring as
an assembler. He then began a career as a security guard working
at Burger Chef, McDonald's, Rotary Lift, Kings Daughters
Hospital and Almac. Otas was a member of the First Church of
God in Madison.
Funeral services are being held today, Thursday, at 11 a.m.
at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, Madison, with Pastor
Chuck Justice officiating. Burial will be in the Dupont Cemetery.
Flag presentation will be conducted at the graveside by Jefferson
Post 9 of the American Legion. Memorials may be given to the
Dupont Cemetery Association. Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre,
Madison, is in charge of arrangements.

E. M. Alene Delap, 80, of Elrod, passed away Wednesday, June
15, 2010. Services are pending at Stratton-Karsteter Funeral

JoAnn Brinson
JoAnn Brinson, 75, of Versailles, passed away Wednesday, June
16, 2010 at the Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg. She
was born at Benham on July 28, 1934, the daughter of Basil and
Eva Fern Welch Steele. She was married to Clair Brinson on March
21, 1953, and he preceded her in death on October 19, 1998.
Survivors include two sons, Douglas Brinson and Marty (Dawn)
Brinson, both of Versailles; two daughters, Diana Sturgill of
Norton, Virginia, and Kathy (Roy) Dobbs of New Marion; seven
grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; son-in-law, Earl
Phelps of Fayetteville, North Carolina; one brother, Arthur
Steele of Lawrenceburg; and one sister, Gladys (Kenny) Hayes
of Benham. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter
Marilyn Phelps, her son-in-law Jerry Sturgill, her sister Reta
Demaree, and her brothers Dale, Russell, and Albert Steele.
Mrs. Brinson was a former employee of Braleys Clover Leaf
Store in Versailles and was also a homemaker. She had attended
the Concord Wesleyan and Versailles Wesleyan churches.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 19 at the Stratton-Karsteter
Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. John Hundley of the Versailles
Wesleyan Church officiating. Burial was in the Benham Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Versailles Wesleyan Church or
the Benham Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
John Jeremy Miller
Let us pause to honor the memory of Mr. John Jeremy Miller,
age 40, of Brenham, Texas, formerly of Versailles, Indiana,
who entered this life on December 13, 1969 at St. Vincents
Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was the loving son of
Johnie M. and Madonna "Donna" Funke Miller, both of
whom survive. He resided his first year of life in Indianapolis
and the family moved back to Ripley County. He was a 1988 graduate
of South Ripley High School in Versailles, where he ran Varsity
Cross County. He was also a member of the National Honor Society,
served on the Academic Team, Senior Varsity Club, Math Club,
Social Studies Club & The Quill & Scroll Club. He attended
Purdue University and completed classes and attended trade school
to become a surveyor.
Jeremy moved to Texas in 1989. He was united in married on January
1, 1993 in Lawler Baptist Church in Florence, Texas to Angela
Henry. To this happy union arrived a daughter and a son to bless
their home. Jeremy was never happier than to be with his beloved
wife, daughter and son. He enjoyed his visits home to Indiana
as well as when his family gathered in Texas. He worked early
in life for Dillards Department Store and King Watch Company
in Austin, Texas. He had worked as a surveyor until his sudden
death.
In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking, making knives, building
bicycles, making jewelry, all kinds of sports, playing with
his children and gardening with his children. Jeremy enjoyed
going to the Renaissance Festivals and dressing in full Scottish
attire. He was a devoted husband, dad, son, brother and uncle.
Jeremy died suddenly Monday, June 14, 2010 at 4:45 a.m. at the
St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Bryan, Texas.

at 10:30 a.m., by Bro. Bob Hicks at the Miller Family Cemetery
near Osgood, Indiana.

Henry LeGrand
Joseph Henry LeGrand, 95, of Lodi, California, passed away Sunday,
June 6, 2010. He was born March 4, 1915 in North Vernon, the
son of William and Mary (Fox) LeGrand. His wife of 66 years,
Marie, preceded him in death in 2008.
Survivors include children, Mary Ann (Jim) Jacobson of Woodbridge,
CA, Philip (Karen) LeGrand of Mary Ester, FL, and Teresa (Mike)
Locke of Lodi, CA; grandchildren, Ann (Rich) Aliano of Lodi,
CA and Sara Jacobson of Sacramento, CA.
Mr. LeGrand was a salesman for Milan Furniture Company and later
for Indiana Office Supplies. He was a World War II Veteran and
served with the 29th Seabees in both Europe and the South Pacific.
Joseph was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #235
of Milan of which he was a past Commander and served many years
as its Chaplain. He was active with the 40&8 organization.
He was appointed and served many years on the Selective Service
Board. He had volunteered time to Boy Scouts of America, the
Knights of Columbus, and Ripley Countys Election Board.
Mr. LeGrand was a member of St. Annes Catholic Church
in Lodi and St. Johns Catholic Church in Osgood.
A Mass of Christian burial was held June 9, at St. Annes
Catholic Church in Lodi, CA. Burial followed in the Cherokee
Memorial Park in The Garden of Holy Family, with U.S. Navy Honor
Guard and the American Legion Post #803 presenting military
honors. Memorials may be given to the St. Annes Church,
215 W. Walnut St., Lodi, CA 95240. Cherokee Memorial Funeral

Dirtha McKinley
Dirtha McKinley, 71, of Milan, passed away Monday, June 7, 2010
at Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg. She was born July
7, 1938 in Milan, the daughter of Philip Clifford and Dorothy
Lucille (Moehring) Peters. She married Alfred McKinley on June
6, 1959 and he survives.
Other survivors include daughter, Mrs. Joel (Robin) Knox of
Aurora and brother-in-law, Richard McKinley of Dillsboro. She
was preceded in death by one brother, Philip Eugene Peters.
Mrs. McKinley was a member of the Sparta Baptist Church and
had worked in the fingerprint analysis department of the FBI
before her marriage. She later worked for Cincinnati Bell, Dolly
Madison in Milan, Chris Volz Motors, Milan Dairy Queen, Milan
High School lunch room, Wal-Mart, and retired from Argosy Casino.
Funeral services are being held today, Thursday, at 7 p.m. at
Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan with Rev. Richard Burcham
officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. also on Thursday
at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Sparta Baptist

Charles E. "Charlie" Deputy
Charles E. "Charlie" Deputy, 62, of Madison, passed
away Monday, June 7, 2010 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born October 18, 1947 in Jefferson County, the son of
Charles I. and Norma Jean Kelley Deputy. He married Deanna Kay
Liter in Carrollton, Kentucky and she survives.
Other survivors include son, Charles I. "Chuck" (Lacie)
Deputy of Madison; stepdaughter, Kristin K. Andrew and companion
Wayne Rowlett of Madison; grandchildren Amanda, Makenzie and
Colton Deputy, Nicholas Rowlett and Jimmy Ricke; father-in-law
and mother-in-law Gobel and Lois Liter of Lexington; and several
other cousins and other relatives. He was preceded in death
by his parents, grandparents, and grandson Justin Michael Ricke.
Mr. Deputy resided in Jefferson County all of his life and was
a 1965 graduate of Southwestern High School and attended Purdue
University. He attended the Kent Christian Church. Charlie was
employed as a construction engineer with the State of Indiana
Seymour Unit for the past 26 1/2 years. He had also been employed
with Chain Belt Rexnord, Kent Feed Mill, and Indiana Feed Lots.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 12, at 11 a.m.

Lee officiating. Burial will be in the Shiloh Cemetery near

Viola M. "Vi" Flint, 69, of Columbus, passed away
Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital South in Indianapolis.
She was born in Ripley County on March 2, 1941, the daughter
of Edward H. and Sadie M. Young Schmidt. She married Bob G.
Flint on June 29, 1968 and he survives.
Other survivors include brothers and sisters, Betty Hallgarth
of Versailles, Ida Jones of Osgood, Charles (Jewel) Schmidt
of Milan, Donald (Pauline) Schmidt of Batesville, Delores (Aaron)
Rolf of Milan, Edward (Sharon) Schmidt of Osgood and Sharon
(Ron) Shockey of Indianapolis; step children, Robert (Sharon)
Flint of Long Beach, CA, James Flint of Columbus, Amber Dawn
(Michael) Stevenson of Long Beach, CA, and Michael Flint of
Long Beach, CA; nine step grandchildren; one step great grandson;
and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by
her parents.
Mrs. Flint retired from Vogel Brothers in 2004 where she had
served for 22 years. She was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic
Church.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 14 at Barkes, Weaver
& Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street in Columbus with
Father Clem Davis officiating. Family and friends may call from
2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday and 10 a.m. to time of services on

Fay McCauley
Waunetta Fay McCauley, 77, of Cross Plains passed away Monday,
May 31, 2010. She was born at Louisville, Kentucky on November
10, 1932, the daughter of Raymond and Irma Werner Herndon. She
was married to William McCauley on January 25, 1958 and he survives.
Other survivors include one son Michael (Stacy) McCauley of
Greensburg; three daughters Theresa (Ken) Wagner of West Harrison,
Tammy (Brian) Varble of Versailles, Kentucky, and Michele (Jeff)
Gammons of Milan; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren;
one brother Jerry Herndon of Lebanon, Tennessee; three sisters
Martha Tipton and Irene Gill both of Eminence, Kentucky and
Lorene Tipton of Alabama.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Robert Coy,
and her brother Raymond Herndon.
Mrs. McCauley was a former employee of US Shoe in Vevay and
had worked for 12 years in the deli of the Versailles Super
Market. She was also a cake decorator and a member of the Cross
Plains Church of Christ.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 4 at 11 a.m. at the
Cross Plains Church of Christ with Brother Brian Varble officiating.
Burial will be in the Methodist Cemetery at Cross Plains. Visitation
will be Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter
Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10 a.m. until time of services

Ruby F. Swinney
Ruby F. Swinney, 83, of New Marion passed away Thursday, May
27, 2010 at her home. She was born near New Marion on March
15, 1927, the daughter of Paul and Mary Sedam May. She was married
to Clifford Swinney on May 1, 1946 and he preceded her in death
on April 12, 1989. Survivors include one daughter Rita (Robert)
Dobbs of Pulaski, Tennessee; three sons William D. (Anna Kay)
Swinney of New Marion, Eddie (Linda) Swinney of LaPlatta, Missouri,
and Larry (Pamela) Swinney of Pulaski, Tennessee; five grandchildren
and one great-grandchild; one brother Martin May of Hamilton,
Ohio.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brother Albert
May and her sister Dorothy Israel.
Mrs. Swinney was a 1946 graduate of New Marion High School.
She was a homemaker and had been employed with US Shoe in Osgood.
She had also done wallpapering and was a member of the New Marion
Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 1 at the New Marion
Baptist Church with Rev. Karen Reynolds officiating. Burial

Sam Roberts
Sam Roberts, 80, of Bennington (Bear Branch) passed away Friday,
May 28, 2010 at his home. He was born February 27, 1930, in
Manchester, KY, the son of John Roberts and Rue Hammie Roberts.
He married Anna Lee Marshall in 1963 and she preceded him in
death on March 20, 2008.
Survivors include eight children and two step children; Vernon
(Darlene) Roberts of Versailles, Kenneth (Mary) Roberts of Bennington,
Eddie Ray Roberts of Lowell, Carol Ann (Jay) Weaver of Demotte,
Sam Jr. (Laura) Roberts of Bennington, Mary Lou Roberts at home,
John Raymond (Jennifer) Roberts of Lawrenceburg, and Les Davidson
of Lowell; one brother, Charlie (Lucy) Roberts; one sister,
Nancy Ann Chase; very close friend, Dolores Jaeger; 14 grandchildren
and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by
his wife, daughter Loretta Robinson, brother Arnold Roberts,
stepson Don Davison, and grandson Sam Justin Roberts.
Mr. Roberts was employed for many years as a truck driver for
Dearborn Gravel Co.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 2 at Filter-DeVries
Funeral Home in Dillsboro. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery.
