Donald R. Hamilton, Sr.
Donald R. Hamilton, Sr., 69, of Holton, passed away Saturday, May 22, 2010 at his home. He was born August 18, 1940, in Blue Diamond, Kentucky, the son of A.W. and Allie (Elam) Hamilton. He married Gwen (Smith) Hamilton on July 18, 1975 and she survives.
Other survivors include one son, Donald (Shonda) Hamilton of Holton; daughters, Becky (Brian) Ruark of North Vernon, Nancy (Jim) Stallard and Shannon (Scott) Jones, both of Michigan; brother, John Hamilton of Holton; sisters, Mildred Roark of Holton and Joann Bishop of Osgood; 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Roshella in 1977; his parents; and brother, Danny Hamilton.
Mr. Hamilton was the Superintendent of Water and Sewage for the Town of Milan for over 25 years. After retiring he then worked for J&J Packing for another 13 years.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 26, at 1 p.m. at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan with Rev. Tom Holt officiating. Burial will be in the New Craven Cemetery at Milan. Visitation will also be on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the family. Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan is in charge of arrangements.

Diane Platt Bockhorst
Diane Platt Bockhorst, 69, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away Monday, May 17, 2010. She was the wife of Dale Bockhorst.
Survivors include children, Matt and Dan (Tracy); grandchildren, Alex, Sarah, Mitch and Thomas; sister, Dave (Jeanne) Platt; niece, Beth (David) Honnert; nephews, Chad (Alberta) Platt and Brian (Laura) Platt.
Diane was a middle school special education teacher.
Visitation will be held Saturday, May 29, from 2-4 p.m. at Carnegie Hall at 14687 Main Street, Moores Hill, and on Sunday, May 30, from 2-3 p.m. at the Miami Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Centerville, Ohio. Per her wishes, she will be cremated. Memorials may be given to Carnegie Hall.

Mabel Crum
Mabel Crum, 89, of Sunman, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2010 at the Waters of Batesville. She was born in Sunman, the daughter of Henry W. Crum and Lillie Mae Ross Crum.
Survivors include her brother, Gene (Phyllis) Crum of Milan; six nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother Kenny Crum, two brothers Melvin Crum and William Crum, and one sister Dolores Westerfeld Kessler.
Mabel attended Lookout School. Her and her family owned Crum Farms. She was the bookkeeper and cooked dinner and lunch for the workers every day. She was an active member of the Adams Lutheran Church in Batesville and also the Ladies Aid Society.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 26, at 11 a.m. at Adams Lutheran Church with Pastor William Powlen officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9-11 a.m. at the church. Memorials may be given to the church. Arrangements are entrusted to Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood.

Madge E. Jackson
Madge E. Jackson, 95, a resident of Greenfield, formerly of Wolcott, passed away Monday, May 17, 2010 at Regency Place Healthcare in Greenfield. She was born March 6, 1915 in Ripley County, the daughter of the late David Brandenberg and Lou Anna (Cady) Ensminger. She married Hugh A. Jackson and he preceded her in death in 1997.
Survivors include sons, Maynard A. (Maureen) Jackson, Miller E. (Gracie) Jackson; daughter, Norma C. (Robert) Kahler; grandchildren, Paul Jackson, Cheryl Lenser, Michelle Carter, Cassandra Kyc, Ashley Jackson, John Kahler; and five great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her son, Roger H. Jackson; brothers, Miller and Ray Ensminger; sisters, Susan Stoops, Esta Edens, Alma Fisher and Ruth Southworth; and great-grandson, Filip.
Mrs. Jackson was a graduate of Holton High School and a 19 year librarian for the Wolcott Public Library. She was a member of the Wolcott Baptist Church where she was the organist for 19 years, former choir director and Sunday school teacher.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 21, at the Wolcott Baptist Church, in Wolcott, with Pastor Larry Aaron and Rev. Jan Hobbs officiating. Burial will follow at Meadow Lake Cemetery, Wolcott. Visitation will be Thursday, from 4-8 p.m. at the Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel, Greenfield and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society, 5635 W. 96th Street, Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46278. Stillinger Family Funeral Home in Greenfield is in charge of arrangements.

Raymond Plowman
Raymond Plowman, 74, of Napoleon, passed away Friday, May 14, 2010 at his home. He was born at Hazard, Kentucky, on May 20, 1935, the son of Depeu and Hazel Deaton Plowman. He was married to Marilyn Roszell and she survives.


Other survivors include one son, Lincoln (Christine) Plowman of Indianapolis; three daughters, Ruth Kieffer of Osgood, Lynda (Craig) Wright of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Bobbie (Chris) Howlett of Milan; five grandchildren; one brother, Ed Plowman of Magnolia, Kentucky; and one sister, Lena Couch of Alexandria, Kentucky.
Mr. Plowman was retired from Delta Faucet where he worked for 35 years.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family under the direction of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.

Gladys LaVerna (Dennis) Alford, 74, of Fairview, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2010. Michael Ray Sproessig
Michael Ray Sproessig, 38, of Versailles passed away Sunday, May 16, 2010 at the Decatur Memorial Hospital in Greensburg. He was born at Batesville on February 4, 1972 the son of Richard and Patricia McConnell Sproessig. He was married to Eryn Milligan on March 22, 2008 and she survives.
Other survivors include his daughter Ashtyn Sproessig and his son Hunter Jerald Brandon Sproessig; parents Richard and Patricia Sproessig of Versailles; his father and mother-in-law Ron and Lisa Milligan of Westport; his maternal grandmother Emma McConnell of Pierceville; several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Chester and Flora Sproessig and his maternal grandfather Hugh McConnell.
Mr. Sproessig was a 1990 graduate of South Ripley High School. He was a member of Carpenters Local 1142 in Greensburg and had completed the four year carpenter’s apprentice course at Washington. He was a member of the Holton United Methodist Church where he served as a trustee.
Funeral services are being held today, Thursday, at 11am at the Holton United Methodist Church with Rev. Dennis Hadley officiating. Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10am until time of services Thursday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Holton United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.

Beatrice Littell
Beatrice Littell, 93, of Versailles, formerly of Lawrenceburg, passed away Sunday, March 21, 2010 at the Columbus Regional Hospital. She was born near Versailles on December 24, 1916 the daughter of Jesse and Florence Kuhn DeBurger. She was married to Donald Littell in 1949 and he preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter Lois (Ronald) Hopton of Texas; five grandchildren; four step grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren; her sister, Pauline Turner and her brother, Paul DeBurger.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Louis Rountree, granddaughter Barbara Jo Turner, grandson James Turner, Jr., stepchildren, Shirley Allen and Jack Littell, nephew Wayne King and a dear friend Elmer Patton.
Mrs. Littell was a member of the Shelby Christian Church.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 15 at 2 p.m. at the Shelby Cemetery near Versailles with Randy Thieman of the Shelby Christian Church officiating.

Anna Marie Uhlarik
Anna Marie Uhlarik, 96, of Holton, died Monday, May 5, 2010. Services were held Tuesday, May 11 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Osgood. Burial was in the Resurrection Cemetery in Montebello, CA.

Frances L. Simers
Frances L. Simers, 93, of Osgood, passed away Monday, April 12, 2010 at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. She was born on December 30, 1916 in Blue Field, VA, the daughter of Clarence Edward and Elizabeth Jane (Stevens) Young.
Survivors include sons, Richard Simers of Delaware, James Simers of Ayer, MA, and Paul Simers of Hankinsville, GA; 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Travis Simers and a sister, Louise Wright.
Frances was a housekeeper. She was a member of the Delaware United Methodist Church since 1955 and a member of the Bible study group at the church.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 8, at 10 a.m. at the Delaware United Methodist Church at Delaware with Pastor LoJo Dunbar officiating. Memorials may be given to the St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital or the Southeastern Indiana Independent Living Center at Versailles. Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan, is handling the arrangements.

Martha H. Lemen, 74, formerly of North Vernon, passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2010. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 1, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home in North Vernon. Betty L. Uhlman
Betty L. Uhlman, 75, of Cross Plains, passed away Friday, April 30, 2010 at the Columbus Regional Hospital. She was born in the Hopewell community on June 13, 1934 the daughter of Isaac and Mary Hoppos Large. She was married to William Uhlman on April 5, 1953 and he survives.
Other survivors include one daughter; Lynn Ann Uhlman of Madison, one granddaughter; Erica Anne (Kyle) Bechman of Cross Plains, one brother; Guy (Mariam) Large of Orange City, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Ray.
Mrs. Uhlman was a past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, former Grand Representative of the Indiana Grand Chapter to the State of Wyoming, a past president of the Friendship American Legion Auxiliary and a 1952 graduate of the Versailles High School. She had worked as a greeter at the Madison Wal-Mart, and helped with Glen Smith Produce Stand.
Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday, at 11 a.m. at the Cross Plains United Methodist Church with Randy Thieman officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Cross Plains United Methodist Cemetery in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.

Denzel Byram, 82, of Indianapolis, passed away Monday, May 3, 2010. Arrangements are pending at Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.
