Milan Indian winter sports athletes are recognized at annual awards program

The Milan High School winter sports athletes were recognized and honored in a winter sports awards program on Tuesday, March 9, at MHS.
Sanctioned winter sports available for participation in by Milan students include boys and girls basketball, boys and girls swimming and wrestling.
The 2010 high school boys basketball program was led by first year Head Coach Josh Blankinship. The tribe finished their varsity season with an overall record of 3-17, 0-6 in ORVC conference action.
Tribe wins included a 16 point win over the South Decatur Cougars, a 16 point win over the Waldron Mohawks and a 4 point win over the Rising Sun Shiners in their non- conference counting battle.
Senior team members included: Michael Brandes, Zach Elza, Sean Laub, Grayson Miller and Alex Walter.

The boy's ORVC final report posted Milan Indian senior Alex Walter as the sixth highest rebounder with a 6.0 per game average and senior teammate Zach Elza in the eighth spot with a 5.9 average per game.
Three senior cheerleaders are included on the MHS squad led by Gretchen Fuller. They include Becky Davis, Ciera Ison and Molly Scudder.
The 2010 Milan Lady Indian basketball team was led by first year Head Coach Leslie Vertz. The Lady Indian varsity finished their season with an overall season record of 1-20, with the victory a 9 point win over Trinity Lutheran Lady Cougars. ORVC conference action found them 0-6.
The three senior Lady Indians basketball team members honored included: Brittany Lewis, Chelsey Ross and Cheyenne Winters.

The Milan Indian wrestling team, proudly led by Head Coach Roy Adams and Assistant Coach Bob Riley, had a very positive season.
Senior Ben Jackson earned his way to battle in state competition at season's end, falling in the third round by a pin, concluding his two year MHS varsity wrestling career with a 97-13 record.
Seniors Ben Jackson and Jared Huff entered the semi-state competition as regional champions, joined by tribesmen senior Cody Marsee and underclassmen Nick Huff, Zeth O'Neal and Tyler Money.
The tribe advanced eight wrestlers to regional competition from the Franklin County HS Sectional. Members included senior sectional champions Ben Jackson and Jared Huff.
Joining them in regional competition were senior Cody Marsee, underclassmen Tyler Money, Nick Huff, Zeth O'Neal, Cory Jewett and Adam Ison.
The annual Milan six-way meet found senior Nate Haugh and Jared Huff champions in their weight class for the event.
Seniors recognized and honored among the wrestling team included mat maids Christy Robinson and Victoria Woulms, along with wrestlers Jared Huff, Ben Jackson, Nate Haugh, Bryan Lacey and Cody Marsee.
The 2010 Indian wrestling accomplishments were many.

Among the 2010 swimming accomplishments behind Coach Zach and Paige Wade included the breaking of school records by Elizabeth Smith in the 500 Free and the 50 Free.
During the girls sectional, Smith placed third in the 100 Backstroke and fourth in the 100 Freestyle events.
Lone Indian senior swimmer, Danielle Schaefer, swam to two personal best during the sectional competition.

The 2010 Milan Indian boy swimmers were led by Nick Dixon. Dixon went to finals in the 100 Breast Stroke event, finishing just short of the school record.
