Ruth Ann Cord Purdum
Ruth Ann Cord Purdum, 71, of Indianapolis, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2008. She was born on April 14, 1937 in Greensburg, the daughter of Karl J. and Frieda M. (Stier) Cord.
Survivors include son, Craig R. (Kay) Purdum; grandsons, Richard Collins and David Purdum; brother, Thomas Cord; sisters, Janet Gorman and Margaret Jarvis. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Jerome and Edward Cord.
Ms. Purdum was a member of Nativity Catholic Church. She was an x-ray technician and the founder and director of the Community Hospital School of Radiologic Technology, retiring in 1990.
Fr. Patrick Doyle will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 25 in Nativity Catholic Church (7225 Southeastern Avenue, Indianapolis). Ruth W. Wilson, 85, of Tampa, Florida, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2008.
Survivors include children, Ben Wilson of Temple Terrace, FL, Roger Wilson of Ohio, Sue Ray (Gary) of Virginia and Morgan Wilson of Texas; grandchildren, Casey Meyer (Chris) of Indiana, Jarrett Ray and Justin Ray, both of Virginia; great grandchildren, Nora Meyer and Henry Meyer, both of Indiana.

Melba G. Campbell
Melba G. Campbell, 83, of Aurora and a resident at Waters of Dillsboro, passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2008. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 12 noon at Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery. Stephen B. Westmeyer

Stephen B. Westmeyer, 59, of Paris, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at the Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville. He was born at the Margaret Mary Community Hospital on October 28, 1948, the son of Jesse and Josephine Curry Westmeyer. He married Ann Barkley on July 18, 1978 and she survives.
Other survivors include one daughter, Elizabeth Westmeyer of KY; his mother, Josephine Westmeyer of Versailles; two brothers, Jesse (Jane) Westmeyer of Versailles and David Westmeyer (Tulin) of KY.
Mr. Westmeyer was a 1966 graduate of Versailles High School. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Eastern Kentucky University. He owned and operated CS Claims Service in Lexington, KY, an independent claims adjuster. He was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam Era.
Mr. Westmeyer was also a member of the Tyson United Methodist Church in Versailles, the Versailles American Legion, Lexington F&AM #1, Henry Clay Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, was past president of the Blue Grass Claims Association, and was a board member of the Northern Kentucky Association of Insurance Professionals.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 25 at 1 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with military honors by the Versailles American Legion being conducted at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral will follow on Saturday, April 26 at the Milwards Funeral Home, Broadway St., in Lexington, KY, with visitation from 1-3 p.m. and the funeral beginning at 3 p.m. followed by Masonic Services. A private burial will be held at the family’s convenience. Memorials may be given to the Jesse Westmeyer Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home.

Marjorie Ann White
Marjorie Ann White, 71, of Batesville, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at her home. She was born on November 29, 1936 in Batesville, the daughter of Harry and Norma (Fritch) Abplanalp. She married Paul White in Batesville on June 18, 1955 and he preceded her in death on December 19, 1975.
Survivors include one daughter, Terry Harmeyer (Kenneth) of Batesville; one son, Michael White of Batesville; three grandchildren: Benjamin, Ethan and Kayla Harmeyer; two great grandchildren: Cassidy and Kendall Harmeyer; brothers: Ronnie Abplanalp of Batesville and David Abplanalp of Columbus; and one sister, Patricia Woolf of Batesville. She was preceded in death by husband and one brother at age 5, Donald Abplanalp.
Mrs. White retired from Batesville Tool and Die and before that she worked at the Sherman House in Batesville. She was a 1955 graduate of Batesville High School and a member of St. Louis Catholic Church.
Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church with Rev. Rob Hankee officiating. Burial will be in the St. Louis Cemetery. Robert K. (Bob) Milbourn
Robert K. (Bob) Milbourn, 67, of Milan, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2008 at Manderley Health Care in Osgood. He was born on October 17, 1940 in Brookville, the son of Wilson and Marguerite Lanning Milbourn. He married Patricia Frye and later married Inez Matney Hunter Milbourn who survives.
Other survivors include daughters, Karen Sothers and Disa Buriton both of Texas; step-sons, Gary Hunter of Connersville, Jim Hunter of Batesville, Ronnie Hunter and Eddie Hunter, both of Metamora; step-daughters, Lois Schebler of Milan, Janice Harrison of Marion and Linda Phillips of Andersonville; two sisters, Doris Reid of Brookville and Frances Starcher of Metamora; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Steven Milbourn.
Mr. Milbourn worked for D&M Manufacturing in Connersville, Hillenbrand Industries at Batesville and had also served as a deputy sheriff in Franklin County for several years.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 16 at Manderley Health Care in Osgood. Father Rob Hankee officiated. Memorials may be given to the Catch-A-Dream Program at Manderley Health Care. Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan was in charge of arrangements.

Mildred E. Brooks
Mildred E. Brooks, 93, of Osgood, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. She was born August 12, 1914 at Batesville the daughter of Louis and Lena Geiger Yorn. She married Charles E. Brooks on February 4, 1939 and he preceded her in death on August 1, 1963.
Survivors include one son, C. Richard Brooks of Columbus; three daughters, Barbara J. Kendall of Shelbyville, Beverly A. Jackson of Prescott, AZ., and Donna Sue Tunny of Osgood; nine grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
Four brothers, Russell, Walter, Chester and Oscar Yorn and two sisters, Elsie Ritter and Lula Bessler preceded her in death.
Mrs. Brooks was a member of the Osgood United Methodist Church, a past member of the Eastern Star and had worked as a clerk at the Ben Franklin store in Osgood.
Visitation will be held today, Thursday, April 17 from 5-7 p.m. at Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 18 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Greendale Cemetery, Osgood.
Memorials may be made to the Osgood United Methodist Church.

Helen Marie McDaniel
Helen Marie McDaniel, 87, of El Paso, Texas, formerly of Madison, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2008 in El Paso, Texas. She was born on December 1, 1920, the daughter of Homer M. Henshaw and Lillian G. Sheets. She married Granville C. McDaniel on April 19, 1942 and he preceded her in death on April 5, 1992.
Survivors include one son, Gary (Kathy) McDaniel of Texas; two grandsons, Matthew (Ginger) McDaniel of Texas and Mark McDaniel of Georgia; one brother, Donald Henshaw of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Mrs. McDaniel was a retired educator having taught in the Madison Consolidated School System for 27 years. She was a teacher, administrator and supervisor and she served as principal of Lydia Middleton Elementary for several years. She was supervisor at Indiana University Southeast. Mrs. McDaniel was a graduate of Rio Grande College in Ohio with a Masters Degree in Education from Indiana University. She was a member of the First Baptist of Madison, Indiana Retired Teachers Association, National Education Association, American Association of University Women, Delta Kappa Gamma, Phi Delta Kappa, Sigma Delta Pi Sorority, Madison Chapter #530 Order of Eastern Star and Bethany Circle of the King’s Daughters’.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 19 at 11 a.m. at Vail-Holt Funeral Home Hilltop Chapel with Rev. Randy Crutchfield officiating. Burial will be in the Grandview Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Friday from 6-8 p.m. and 9 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Mary Ruth Olmsted
Olmsted, Mary Ruth (Hafft), age 91, passed away on April 5, 2008 in Sun City Center, Fl. She was born in Versailles, the daughter of Florence (Freudenstein) and Richard Hafft.
She was a graduate of New Marion High School, Hanover College and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She was a member of the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society and Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She married Howard Niles Olmsted in 1946 and he preceded her in death in November 1972. They lived in Madison and Eagle River, Wisconsin and in Minneapolis, Mn. In 1983 she retired to Sun City Center, Fla.
Survivors include: son Richard of Tampa, Fla; daughter Jill of Washington, D.C.; grandchildren Annie and David; their mother Bobbie Haswell; sister-in-law Dee Hafft; niece Caroline; nephew Paul; and relatives from the Hafft and Freudenstein families.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm on May 9, 2008 at Plymouth Congregational Church, 1900 Nicollet Avenue, Minneapolis, MN., 55403. Private burial at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Mrs.
Olmsted taught school for 47 years, and was active in Masonic and church activities. She enjoyed golf, gardening, bridge, and traveling with Hoosier friends.

Marjorie Ann White
Marjorie Ann White, 71, of Batesville, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2008. Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, April 26 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church. Elmer W. Cutter

Elmer W. Cutter, 92, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2008. He was born October 6, 1915 in Ohio County, the son of Harry Henry and Maria Elenore Cutter (nee Ohlmansiek), and grew up on a farm in Dearborn County, where he was one of eight children. He married and is survived by his wife of 70 years, Irmgard A. Cutter (nee Miller). For most of his adult life, he lived in the Springfield-Dayton area in Ohio, where he and his wife raised their three children. He is retired from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
He is survived by a son, Jerry Cutter and wife, Judy; two daughters, Shirley Stiers and Barbara Parker and their husbands, James and Greg, respectively; six grandchildren, Timothy Cutter, Diane Cutter-Ali, William Stiers, Steven Cutter, Paul Stiers, Michael Borders and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Edwin, Orville, Lester and Loren and is survived by three sisters; Verna Gomez, Letha Linkmeyer and Martha Taylor.
A memorial service will be held at Filter-DeVries Funeral Home, Dillsboro on Saturday, April 19 at 11 a.m. Internment will be at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Farmers Retreat.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery or Alzheimer’s Association.

Carl Nathaniel Grubbs
Carl Nathaniel Grubbs, 89, of Osgood, passed away on April 8, 2008 at Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville. He was born on March 13, 1919 in Ripley County, the son of Nathan N. and Mary Elizabeth Adams Grubbs. He married Lelia Richardson on August 11, 1940 and she preceded him in death in August of 1993.
Survivors include daughters: Karla Kaye Grubbs of Columbus and Donna Kreinhop of Hope; brothers: Leo R. Grubbs of Franklin and Calvin W. Grubbs of Acworth, GA; sisters: Dorothy Clements of Brookville, OH, Mary Ellen Osborne of Indiana, Lillie Marie Hunter and Betty Jean Stanford, both of Indianapolis; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Albert, Earnest and infant boy Grubbs and one sister, Marjory Clements.
Mr. Grubbs was a carpenter and farmer all of his life. He attended the Osgood First Baptist Church and was a past Gideon member.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 11 at 11 a.m. at Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood with burial in the Greendale Cemetery in Osgood. Visitation is being held today, Thursday, at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m.

Ivan Franklin
Ivan Franklin, 76, of Milan, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2008, at the Waters of Dillsboro. He was born on December 23, 1931 in Knott County, Ky., the son of Lawrence and Nora (Mullins) Franklin. He married Polly J. (Fields) Franklin on April 21, 1951 and she preceded him in death on December 23, 1997.
Survivors include sons: Darrell (Linda) Franklin of Milan, Hervey (Denise) Franklin of Milan; daughters: Donna Sue (John) Brazzell of Milan, Lesa (Harvey) Byard of Osgood; brothers: Cordis Franklin of Milan, Dexter Franklin of Fairmont; sister: Marie Fields of Corbin, Ky.; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Emily Franklin.
Mr. Franklin was a retired fork lift operator at Anchor Glass and was a member of Local 42. He was a member of the Baptist Faith.
Funeral services are being held today, Thursday, April 10 at 11 a.m. at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan with Evangelist Irvin Hart officiating. Frances Marie Lewis
Frances Marie, Lewis, 78, of Osgood, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at The Waters in Batesville. She was born on November 5, 1929 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of Ira Claude and Ester Sellers Mosier. She married Stanley Winters and he preceded her in death on November 5, 1950. She married Jess Lewis II on July 31, 1953 and he preceded her in death on April 1, 1982.
Survivors include sons: Dennis (Connie) Winters of Osgood and Dean Stanley Winters of Virginia; daughter: Claudia Marie (Thomas) Evans of North Vernon; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and sisters: Waunita Dilk of Florida, Betty Land and Carol Lee, both of Indiana.
Mrs. Lewis was a member of the Church of Christ in Versailles. She had been a caregiver for Ripley, Bartholomew, and Decatur counties for 30 years.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 11 at Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 12 at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Perseverance Cemetery in Osgood. Norman W. Pruss
Norman W. Pruss, 85, of Milan, formerly of the Farmers Retreat area died Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. He was born July 1, 1922 at Farmers Retreat, the son of Walter B. and Emma (West) Pruss. He married Elva B. Goodpaster Pruss and she survives.
Other survivors include son, Steve and his wife Mary Pruss of Lake Orion, MI.; two daughters, Connie and husband Ron Myers of Milan, Bonnie and husband Rich Hartman of Frankfort; two brothers, Glen Roie Pruss of Farmers Retreat and Elmer Pruss of Farmers Retreat; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Eldred Pruss and one sister, Elvarene Fox.
Mr. Pruss was a mechanic for the Chrysler Corporation for many years. He was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church at Farmers Retreat, a WWII army veteran and a member of the Dillsboro American Legion.
Visitation will be held Saturday, April12, from 2-3 p.m. at the St. John’s Lutheran Church at Farmers Retreat with funeral services immediately following. Rev. Richard Wilkie will be officiating. Burial will be in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Dillsboro American Legion.
Memorials may be given to St. John’s Lutheran Church or Ripley Crossing Activity Fund.

Rose E. Barenscheer
Rose E. Barenscheer, 92, of Elrod, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at the Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg. She was born at Addyston, Ohio on June 19, 1915 the daughter of Charles and Anna Eckstein Meeks. She was married to Rev. Lee Barenscheer on November 5, 1933 and he preceded her in death on July 28, 1990.
Survivors include one son, Andy (Linda) Barenscheer of Milan; one daughter, Peggy (Charles) Burford of Dillsboro; 11 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren and 19 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by parents, three brothers and three sisters.
Mrs. Barenscheer was a homemaker and a member of the Washington Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 12 at 11 a.m. at the Washington Baptist Church with Rev. Bruce Fitzsimmons and Tim Barenscheer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home, Versailles and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the church.

Wallace A. Stutler
Wallace A. Stutler, 80, of Milan, passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at St. Andrews Health Care in Batesville. He was born on May 26, 1927 in Milan, the son of Arnold F. and Laura (Elrod) Stutler. He married Ruth Ludeker on May 29, 1946 and she preceded him in death on October 17, 2003.
Survivors include two sons, Gregory Stutler of West Harrison, Ohio and Dan (Donna) Stutler of Greenwood; two sisters, Roberta Ashcraft of Milan and Marjorie Stephens of Moores Hill; four brothers, Gary Stutler of Friendship, Daryl Stutler of Milan, Ron Stutler of Versailles and Ernie Stutler of Batesville; two grandchildren, Meagan Fourtiner and Meade Stutler and two great grandchildren, Jolie Fourtiner and Caleb Stutler. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one brother Merle Stutler.
Mr. Stutler was a retired employee of 35 years of Seagrams at Lawrenceburg and a WWII Veteran of the US Coast Guard. He attended St. Paul Lutheran Church and was a member of the Milan F&AM #31, the SE Indiana Shrine Club, the Moores Hill American Legion and was a former Ripley County Commissioner.

Sandra Rouse Abplanalp
Sandra Rouse Abplanalp, 52, of Butlerville, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born on August 8, 1955 in Seattle, Washington, the daughter of Charles Anthony and Gladys Eva Shedin Rouse. She married Gregory Abplanalp on Octobert 9, 1999, at Freedom Baptist Church in Jennings County and he survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Jake Hamrick of North Vernon and Jarrett Hamrick of Butlerville; a daughter, Jamie Wenning of Holton; step-son, Lance Wenning of Osgood; two step-daughters, Robyn Wenning of Osgood and Kayla Abplanalp of North Vernon; brother, Glen Rouse of Seattle; two sisters, Kathy Harvey and Christine Olsen, both of Seattle; and four grandchildren, Madeline and Malorie Hamrick of Butlerville and Ryan and Joseph Gill of Osgood. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Abplanalp was a homemaker. She enjoyed animals, especially horses, and her family.

Martha C. Williams
Martha C. Williams, 97, of Osgood, passed away on Monday, March 31, 2008 at the Heritage House in Greensburg. She was born in the Flat Rock community near Osgood on June 7, 1910, the daughter of Leland and Lula Hull Rayburn. She married Glenn Williams on February 20, 1931 and he preceded her in death on August 17, 1994.
Survivors include two sons, Milford Williams of Holton and Gerald (Carolyn) Williams of Greensburg; two daughters, Beverly (Charles) Newlin of Duluth, Georgia, and Carolyn (John) Newlin of Lafayette; ten grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 17 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her granddaughter Sue, daughter-in-law Clara Williams, her brothers Ollie and William Rayburn, and her sister, Annabelle Williams.
Mrs. Williams attended the Bethel School in the Flat Rock community as a child and was the last living member of her Holton High School class of 1928. She was a homemaker and a member of the Union Flat Rock Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Ripley County Farm Bureau and a 51 year and past Grand Matron of the Eastern Star.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 4 at 11 a.m. at the Union Flat Rock Baptist Church with Rev. Carolyn Williams and Malvin McCullough officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is being held today, Thursday, from 5-8 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10 a.m. until time of services on Friday at the church.
The Versailles chapter of the Eastern Star will conduct services at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Union Flat Rock Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
