Two
Eagles have landed For a special moment!
Senior
Eagles were selected recipients of the 2008 Ripley Publishing
Co. Inc. Basketball Excellence Awards. Pictured from
left: Jac-Cen-Del Eagle senior Brandon Gehl, named the
William "Tiny" Hunt Memorial - Boys Basketball

and Jac-Cen-Del Lady Eagle Kiersten Young - recipient
of the "Girls Basketball Excellence Award".
The prestigious awards presentation was made during
the annual Jac-Cen-Del basketball awards program on
Wednesday, March 19, in the JCD gym. Gehl was coached
by Coach David Bradshaw and Young by Lady Eagle Varsity
Coach Scott Smith. "We wish Gehl and Young the
best in all their future endeavors," stated Franklin.

celebrate '08 winter sports season at annual awards program

The annual Jac-Cen-Del basketball awards and recognition program
for Eagle jr. high and high school athletes was held at the
JCD gym on Wednesday evening, March 20.
A cordial welcome was extended by Athletic Director, Mark Meyer,
to open the jr. high portion of the evening's festivities, which
was followed by the high school program
JR High Program
Seventh Grade Boys
The jr. high program began shortly after 6 p.m. with Coach Travis
Rohrig of the Eagle boys' seventh grade team speaking about
his team and the season just past. Coach Rohrig stated "The
teams record only included two JCD victories, but advancement
in skills were made by the boys over the season."
With many people to thank, names too numerous to mention, Rohrig
added that he looks forward to the team playing as eighth graders
next year and to a new group of seventh graders to work with.
Members of the 2008 seventh grade boys team included: Trey Bradshaw,
Joey Chambers, Joe Harlemert, Lorenzo Linarducci, Blake McConnell,
Billy Rayburn, Trent Smith, Taylor Trent, Joe Wenning and manager
Mathew Joseph.

Next on the agenda to speak was Coach Chad Pindell, of the seventh
grade girls team. Pindell stated that his team, only won one
game this season, that against Greensburg where the -Eagles
won by the score of 20-17.
This season's seventh grade Lady Eagle team included: McKenzie
Strunk, Nichole Brown, Ashley Hammond, Crista Roberts, Ciara
Moore, Erin Flint and Brianna Volz.

Jr High Cheerleaders
The JCD jr.-high cheerleader program of 2008, led by Coach Andrea
Carroll found much enthusiasm to support the teams and liven
up the fans. Coach Carroll confessed that this being her first
year in the position, allowed for many new experiences. The
main one she found was that she needed to establish rules before
next season rolls around.
Members of the seventh grade cheer squad included: Bella Collins,
Deziree Frazier, RayAnn Noble, Crista Roberts and McKenzie Strunk.

Coach Carroll's eighth grade cheerleader squad included: Torie
Gilland, Megan Gunter, Meagan Hughes, Hannah Kappes and Allie
Shinkle.
Eighth Grade Girls
Coach April Hughes led the Lady Eagle eighth grade basketball
team. Coach Hughes elaborated on the effort extended by the
girls' and their parents in helping make the season fun even
though things often did not work out quite right at the games.
A 6-9 season record could have been greatly different had only
a few points fallen their way at the end of game's lost.
The Lady Eagle's eighth grade team included: Emily Huntington,
Meagan Hughes, Idona Newhart, Allie Shinkle, Kara Wagner, Hannah
Kappes, Meagan Obermeyer, Morgan Young and Kelsey Pilz.

Eighth Grade Boys
Coach David Espinda's eighth grade boys' basketball team finished
the season with a 2-15 season record. Coach Espinda elaborated
on the hard work and dedication extended by the boys'.
The Eagle boy's eighth grade Eagle team included: Garrison Benoit,
AJ Ertel. Cody Gullion, Cory Hellmich, Randy Hodges, Codie Horan,
Tyler Reatherford, Andrew Snyder, Dustin Wagner and Duncan Wollf.

Coach Espinda concluded with a congratulatory statement aimed
at the JCD senior athletes, as they were his first team to coach.
Mentioned were: Aaron Harmeyer, Brandon Gehl, Eric Horan and
Kellen Stolze.
High School Program
Freshman Boys
Coach Roy Thomas began with an introduction of the Eagle freshmen
boys team: Kyle Abrams, Joe Abplanalp, Clay Comer, Dalton Garnett,
Travis Hardesty, Brock Shadday, Logan Simon and Zach Swain.
Thomas acknowledged many who had helped to keep JCD sports a
positive experience for their students, including school staff,
athletes and their parents, as well as others who faithfully
follow them. The team ended their season at 9-9 including a
runner-up finish in the Freshman ORVC Tournament.

Varsity Reserve Girls
Coach Matt McNew opened his segment of the program with thanks
to Varsity Head Coach Scott Smith and Assistant Maurice Meyers
for their helpful guidance and direction in this his first year
as a high school coach, and added special thanks to his wife
and daughter for their patience.
The Lady Eagle JV team included:Allana Newhart, Alissa Stolze,
Samantha White, Kristin Konradi, Brooke Gilland, Alyssa Hammond,
Erica Hicks, Kayla Kohlman, Andi Roberts, Hailee Sizemore and
Erica Caudill.

Coach Steve Narwold included in his presentartion a heart felt
thank you to many who had helped he and his wife Stephanie in
time of need and announced they have a 2-week old baby girl.
The "08 Eagle JV team included: Shane Adams, Zach Kappes,
Ethan Wagner, Derek Lunsford, Daniel Harlemert, Ryan Schuler,
Brandon Wilhoit, Ethan Harmeyer, Trent Tucker and Trevor Arnett.
Their season record was 12-7 and were Co-ORVC Champions at 4-2
in conference games.

Coaches Cindy Toops and Sue Bunselmeier spoke of a fun and eventful
season for their squads.
The Varsity Reserve Squad included: Renee Meister, Megan Joseph,
Rachel Brown, Erica Hicks, Kayla Kohlman and Megan Hardy.

Varsity Eagle awards cont...
The Varsity Eagle cheerleader squad included Rachel Toops, Kelley
Wagner, Kara Harlemert, Audrey Huffmeyer, Jaime Lunsford and
Tanaha Simon.
The Eagle cheerleaders then presented the traditional scrapbooks
of news clippings and photographs they make for senior players
before the varsity awards were presented.

Lady Eagle Varsity
Coach Scott Smith spoke with pride of the accomplishments of
his Lady Eagle team, including that they finished with a 20
win season, only the second time accomplished in Lady Eagle
history. Smith noted that this is the fourth year in a row for
the Lady Eagles to finish first or second in the ORVC conference.
He added that all four senior Lady Eagles had been invited to
participate in the girls Ripley County Voiture 1047, 40/8 All-Star
game, that will be played at JCD on Saturday, April 5.
Coach Smith gave special recognition of the dedication and positive
influence assistant Coach Maurice Meyers has had on JCD athletes
and staff, acknowledging that this past season was the last
year Meyers will assist with coaching.
The Lady Eagle Varsity basketball team included: Kara Harlemert,
Kiersten Young, Kaylin Ploeger, Carissa Simon, Kristin Hicks,
Valorie Wagner, Becca Wagner, Janine Huff and Allana Newhart.
They were joined through the season by JV players Samantha White,
Kristin Konradi, Alyssa Hammond, Alissa Stolze, Brooke Gilland
and Hailee Sizemore.
Managers included Erika Franklin, Erica Caudill and Nicole Wirth.
The Lady Eagles season record was an outstanding 20-3, including
the Ripley County Girls Championship Title.

2008 Girls Basketball Excellence Award:

Coach David Bradshaw opened his presentartion with a thank you
to former principal Raymond Ratledge for all the support he
had given JCD staff and athletes in his service at Jac-Cen-Del
High School. Bradshaw continued with the recognition of many
others who help to make JCD sports a solid and productive extension
for its students and the community as a whole.
Coach Bradshaw praised the effort of his team, commenting on
their unselfish form of play, that allowed five different players
to be high scorer in different games.
The '08 Eagle Varsity team included: Brandon Gehl, Kellen Stolze,
Eric Horan, Aaron Harmeyer, Gerald Hardesty, Blake Sutton, Matt
Gehl and Tim Arnett. As part of the Eagle effort, also mentioned
were student managers Ethen Hess and Jesus Sanchez-Vera, videographers
Jodi Hardy and Brittany Joseph, and statisticians Kiersten Young,
Janine Huff, Chelsea Hooton, Samantha White, Alissa Stolze and
others who filled in as needed.
Their season record was an impressive 18-5 which included a
Co-ORVC Championship Title.
