Janice Elaine Slater
Janice Elaine Slater, 70, of Cincinnati, OH, died Monday, September 25, 2006 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallap, WA, while visiting her brother. She was born September 14, 1936 in Milan, the daughter of Milton and Thelma Cross Slater.
Survivors include mother Thelma Cross Slater and brothers James of Ledyard, CT and John of Puyallap, WA.
She was preceded in death by father Milton Lloyd Slater.
Miss Slater graduated from Hanover College in 1958. She began her teaching career in Tipton, and retired from the Oak Hills School District of Cincinnati, OH, in 1991. Miss Slater worked extensively as president of the Carnegie Historic Landmarks Preservation Society in Moores Hill.
Memorial services will be Sunday, October 1 at 3:00 p.m. at Dillsboro United Methodist Church. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Mary Louise Wehmeyer
Mary Louise Wehmeyer, 81, of Dillsboro, died Monday, September 25, 2006 at St. Lukes Hospital East in Ft. Thomas, KY. She was born November 22, 1924 in Ripley County, the daughter of Rossie and Stella Stewart Jefferies, both deceased. She married Omer P. Wehmeyer of Dillsboro and he survives.
Survivors also include daughter Linda of Lawrenceburg; sons Danny of New Smyran Beach, FL and Jim of Rising Sun; brothers David and Paul; sister Mickey Heffelmire of Rising Sun; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Wehmeyer was a homemaker.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 29 from 5-8:00 p.m. at the Ulrich Filter Funeral Home in Dillsboro. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 30 at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Aurora.

Marjorie H. Hartman
Marjorie H. Hartman, 84, of Batesville, died Sunday, Sep-tember 17, 2006 at the Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville. She was born September 19, 1921 in Decatur County, the daughter of Herman and Flora Veercamp Brancamp, both deceased. She married Al-vadore Hartman on August 14, 1950 at the Immaculate Con-ception Church in Millhousen and he preceded her in death on July 8, 1984.
Survivors include sons Roger of Sunman and Francis "Puffy" of Batesville; daughters Diane Hornbuckle of Baltimore, MD; Jean Johnson of Milan and Rose Morton of New Point; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by son Mark; daughter Janet; brothers Leonard, Herman and Walter; and, sisters Effie Sanre-gret, Marie Kress and Edna Wenning.
Mrs. Hartman was a home-maker and a member of St. An-thony’s Church in Morris.
Visitation will be Friday, September 22 from 4-8:00 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville, with a rosary service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 23 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Church with Msgr. Bernard Schmitz officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Anthony’s Ladies Society.

Carolyn Sue Adams
Carolyn Sue Adams, 72, of Osgood, died Friday, September 15, 2006 at the Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville. She was born October 11, 1933, the daughter of Roscoe Francis and Pervia Leonna Zimmerman Davis, both de-ceased. She married Harold "Hap" E. Adams and he sur-vives.
Survivors also include sons Jeffrey D. Adams of Columbus; Roger W. Adams of North Vernon and James D. Adams of Osgood; daughters Carolyn "Lorri" Carpenter of Osgood and Kristi D. Lyall of Bear, DE; sisters Frances "Marlene" L. Edington of Knightstown; Barbara Ann Smith of Franklin and Mary Kay Lacy of Spiceland; sister-in-law Frances Davis of Franklin, and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by brother Philip Ray Davis.
Mrs. Adams was a past em-ployee of Bohner & Wagner Tax Service of Osgood. She was a member of the New Testament Christian Church of Osgood.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 18 at Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood. Burial was in the Center Christian Church Cemetery in Mays.
Memorials may be made to the New Testament Christian Church or the American Cancer Fund.

Charles Robert "Bob" Martin
Charles Robert "Bob" Mar-tin, 47, of Madison, died Thurs-day, September 14, 2006.
Visitation is today, Thursday, September 21 from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at 11:00 a.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive, Madison.

W. Max Underwood
W. Max Underwood, 81, of Versailles passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at his home. He was born near Correct on August 5, 1925 the son of Walter and Ruth Flick Underwood. He was married to Marie Werner on June 21, 1952 and she preceded him in death on June 9, 2005.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and his son Gary. Survivors include two sons, Bruce Underwood and his wife Mary Jean Wiegert of Bellingham, WA and David Underwood and his wife Julie of Versailles; one daughter, Amy Kot and her husband Mark of Raleigh, NC; grandsons Ryan and Dylan Underwood and granddaughters Jessica and Stefanie Kot.
Mr. Underwood was a 1943 graduate of Versailles High School and served in the Army during WWII with the 372nd Army Band Force. He graduated from Purdue University in 1951 with a Bachelors Degree in agri-culture. While at Purdue, he was a charter member of the Farmhouse Fraternity, of which his grandson Ryan is now a member. He was a retired farmer and had worked for the Soil Conservation Service.
Mr. Underwood also served on the Board of Directors for the Southeastern Indiana REMC for 21 years and for the Ripley County Bank Board of Directors for 26 years. He had served as a leader for 15 years for the Versailles Town and Country 4H Club. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Olean, the Versailles American Legion, and the Versailles Lions Club. He and Marie enjoyed traveling, dancing, and working outdoors, but received the most fulfillment from time spent with their family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 23 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Dewberry, due to remodeling at the church in Olean. Pastor Marcus Felde will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery in Olean with military graveside rites by the Versailles American Legion. Visitation will be Friday from 4-8:00 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10:00 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the church.
Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Improvement Fund in care of the funeral home.

Mary Deirdre "Deidy" White
Mary Deirdre "Deidy" White, 46, of Milan, died Sunday, September 10, 2006 at her residence. She was born July 1, 1960 at Milan, the daughter of Donald J. and Wilma Morrell White.
Survivors include her mother Wilma "Mim" White of Milan, brother Ted and wife Dorothy White of Milan, and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Miss White was an employee of Big Lots at Aurora.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 14 at the Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan with Rev. Harris Long officiating. Cremation was chosen.
Memorials may be made to Milan Rescue 30 or the Milan Fire Department.

Miriam Scheiner
Miriam Scheiner, of Dills-boro, died Saturday, September 9, 2006 at University Hospital, Cincinnati, OH. She was born January 30, 1926 at Bellaire, OH, the daughter of William and Hilda Thomlinson McIlvain, both deceased. She married Robert W. Scheiner of Dillsboro and he survives.
Survivors also include sons Robert of Mason, OH and Mat-thew of Rushville; daughter Kim Dolan of Miami Heights, OH; brother Edwin McIlvain of Morrow, OH and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by sisters Inez Carpenter and Betty Kohl.
Mrs. Scheiner was a home-maker and co-owner of S.P. De-signs in Dillsboro for 27 years.
Visitation will be held today, Thursday, September 14 from 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at Ulrich Filter Funeral Home in Dillsboro. Funeral services immediately follow. Burial will be at the Richland Cemetery in Richland.

Sr. Louise Ann Rossi, for-merly Sr. Patricia Clare, 77, of St. Francis in Oldenburg, died Monday, September 11, 2006.

Florence B. Tekulve
Florence B. Tekulve, 88, of Batesville, died Tuesday, Sep-tember 12, 2006 at the St. An-drews Health Campus in Bates-ville. She was born October 16, 1917, the daughter of George and Elizabeth Drescher Timke both deceased. She married Anthony H. "Butch" Tekulve at the St. Louis Parsonage in Batesville on July 3, 1946 and he preceded her in death on De-cember 24, 1983.
Survivors include nieces, nephews, great nieces and neph-ews and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by sisters Hilda Bergman, Bertha Anderson and Cora Engel Ridenour, and brother Edward Timke.
Mrs. Tekulve was a home-maker and a custodian for the Batesville State Bank, before retiring. She was a member of the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Lutheran Church Women, Adams Lutheran Church Ladies Aid, Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183 Ladies Auxiliary and the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271 Ladies Auxiliary.
Visitation will be held today, Thursday, September 14 from 4-7:00 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 151 West George Street, Batesville with a V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary service at 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, September 15 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Batesville with Rev. Thomas Weitzel and Rev. William Powlen officiating. Burial will be at St. Louis Cemetery in Batesville.

Adah Jane Tyra
Adah Jane Tyra, 93, of Cross Plains passed away Saturday, Sep-tember 2, 2006 at the Major Hos-pital in Shelbyville. She was born in Wolfe County, Kentucky on De-cember 18, 1912 the daughter of Alford and Martha Napier Wood. She was married to Arthur Tyra on March 1, 1932 and he preceded her in death on June 30, 1976.
Survivors include two daugh-ters, Oneda Anderson and her hus-band Murrell of Waldron and Martha Davies and her husband William of Scipio; five grandchil-dren and 14 great-grandchildren; one brother Everett Wood and his wife Myrle of Cross Plains; three sisters, Nannie Whisman of Naples, Florida, Virginia Liter of Canaan, and Irene Scudder and husband Millard of Dillsboro.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Alford and James Wood, sisters Daisy Tyra, Betty Wood and Leona Whisman and grandson-in-law Rev. Jeff McNichols.
Mrs. Tyra was a homemaker and had lived in the Dewberry community near Cross Plains for sixty years. She enjoyed reading her Bible, attending church, quilting and various kinds of needlework.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 5 at the Bear Creek Baptist Church at Friendship with Rev. Sherman Hughes officiating. Burial was in the Methodist Cemetery at Cross Plains.
Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice in care of the Strat-ton-Karsteter Funeral Home.

Lota A. Grinstead
Lota A. Grinstead, 95, of Winter Haven, FL, formerly of Ripley and Dearborn counties, died Monday, August 28, 2006 in Winter Haven. She was married to Herman "Snort" Grinstead, and he preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters Colleen Stephens of Winter Haven, FL and Judy Heller of Paducah, KY; sister Arvella Arch of Michigan; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Grinstead was a retired hairdresser.
Private family services will be held Saturday, September 9. Burial will be at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Moores Hill. Sibbett-Moore Funeral Home, of Moores Hill, is in charge of the arrange-ments.

Esther E. Luken
Esther E. Luken, 79, of Greensburg, died Friday, Septem-ber 1 at the Decatur County Hos-pital in Greensburg. She was born May 11, 1927 in Millhousen, the daughter of Joseph H. and Alma Zapfe Bruns, both deceased. She married Urban J. Luken on May 18, 1948 and he preceded her in death on October 25, 1998.
Survivors include sons Robert of Bamberg, Germany; Richard and wife Linda of Greensburg and Donald of Columbus; grandchil-dren Jeff Luken and wife Amy, Kristy and husband Shaun Ortman both of Greensburg; Katy Luken and fiancée Ryan Kelley of Os-good; Jeremy and Jenna Luken of Columbus and Trisha and husband Gary Rudd of Westport and five great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Luken was a bookkeeper for Kocher Ford and a secretary for the 1st Camp Atterbury. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg.
Funeral services will be held to-day, Thursday, September 7 at 10:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Con-ception Catholic Church in Mill-housen with Rev. Todd Goodson officiating. Internment will be in the Immaculate Conception Catho-lic Cemetery.

Ella Ruth Evans
Ella Ruth Evans, 88, of Osgood, formerly of Benham passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. She was born at Friendship on May 7, 1918 the daughter of Marion and Lula Gray Moody. She was married to Ralph Evans on February 27, 1936 and he preceded her in death on May 23, 1992.
Survivors include two sons, Dale Keith Evans and his wife Glenda of Versailles and Daniel Evans and his wife Robbie of Os-good; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Roscoe Moody of Effingham, Illi-nois and Ray Moody of Milan.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Ralph Moody.
Mrs. Evans was a homemaker and a member of the Shelby Chris-tian Church.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 8 at 1:00 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Minister Randy Thieman of the Shelby Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in the Benham Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8:00 p.m.

Janet M. Meyer, of Dillsboro, died Sunday, September 3, 2006.

Bonnie Patten Long
Bonnie Patten Long, 94, of Newburgh, Indiana, formerly of Sun City Center, Florida and Dayton, Ohio, died Friday, September 1, 2006 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital.
Bonnie was born in Versailles, Indiana in 1912 to Clarence and Cora Hunter. She worked as a registered nurse at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio for 33 years. She was an avid golfer, playing as many as five times a week well into her 80's, and an excellent card player, accumulating several master points in bridge.
While living in Florida, she was a member of United Community Church. She did extensive volunteering, working as an EMT on the Emergency Squad for seven years and for the Guardianship Foundation for eight years.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #303 of Versailles, Indiana and the Pilot Club International of Kettering, Ohio and several nursing, golfing and bridge organizations.
Bonnie was devoted to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and took them on beach vacations almost every year.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles "Bud" Patten and Robert Long and brothers, Marion, Lowell, Irving and Freeman Hunter.
Bonnie is survived by her son, Robert Patten; stepson, Rex Long; grandchildren, Scott Patten, Jill Wood and Bruce Patten; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, officiated by Reverend David Schwambach and Reverend John Kizlin with burial at Rest Haven Cemetery in Blue Ash, Ohio.
