Delbert E. Dilk
Delbert E. Dilk, 77, of Versailles passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at the
Thornton Terrace Health Care Center in Hanover. He was born in the Marble Corner
community of Shelby Township near New Marion on January 11, 1928 the son of
Clarence H. and Sina Wright Dilk. He was married to Martha Boekankamp on November
17, 1951 and she survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Sandra Kay Howlett of Versailles, Betty
Wirtz and husband Steven of Versailles; three grandchildren, Chris Howlett and
wife Bobbie of Milan, Karen Hubbard and husband Eric of Versailles, and Jeffery
Wirtz of Versailles and great grandchildren, Conner and Anna Hubbard; two brothers,
Floyd Dilk of Florida and Nelson Dilk of Versailles.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Clarence and Ralph
Dilk.
Mr. Dilk was a retired farmer and had worked as a truck driver for Howard Lostutter
and had also worked at the Delaney Wood Heel Factory in Versailles. He was retired
from Delta Faucet in Greensburg. He was a member of the Marble Corner Methodist
Church and was currently a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Olean.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 28, 11 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran
Church in Olean with Pastor Marcus Felde officiating. Burial will be in the St.
Peter's Cemetery in Olean. Visitation will be Thursday, January 27, 5-8 p.m.
at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home, Versailles.
Memorials may be given to the Improvement Fund of St. Paul's or to St. Peter's
Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
Paul Boone Rose
Paul Boone Rose, 64, of Trimble County, Kentucky, died January 20, 2005. He was
born November 15, 1941 in Morris, Indiana the son of Reece and Oma Craft Rose.
Survivors include wife, Margaret L. (Rodgers) Rose; mother, Oma Craft Rose of
Napoleon; seven daughters, Christina M. Wilson of Osgood, Paula J. Law of Bedford,
KY; Kelly J. Stephen of Versailles; Patsy L. Cron of Worthville, KY; Jackie Coomer
of LaGrange, KY; Linda Grisso of Dallas, TX; Connie Eaves of LaGrange, KY; six
sons, Eddie R. Rose of Bedford, KY; Scott T. Rose of Worthville, KY; John L.
Rose of Worthville, KY; Alex W. Rose of Owenton, KY; Adam W. Rose of Carrollton,
KY; and David Goetzinger of Louisville, KY; one sister, Alice Bryant of Indianapolis;
one brother, Raymond W. Rose of Batesville; 36 grandchildren; and four great
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, an infant sister and two
grandchildren.
Mr. Rose was a retired corrections officer at the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric
Complex in LaGrange and was a member of the Family Worship Center in Carrollton.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 23 at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home
Interment. A private burial will be held at a later date.
Robert F. Merchen
Robert F. Merchen, 94, of Cincinnati, formerly of Oldenburg, died Saturday, January
22, 2005 at his residence. He was born June 14, 1910 in Oldenburg the son of
Joseph Merchen and Mary Ertel Merchen, both deceased. He married Romilda Firsich
Merchen November 18, 1936 at St. Louis Church in Batesville and she survives.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Kay Rengering of Cincinnati; one son, Robert
T. Merchen of Savannah, GA; one sister, Clara Speth of Seimer, TN; one brother,
Edward Merchen of Danville, IL; four grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Stella Merchen and Carletta Kaiser;
one brother, Marion Merchen; and one granddaughter.
Mr. Merchen was a member of the All Saints Church, Cincinnati. He was a member
of the Burton Woolery American Legion Post #18, 4th Degree Knight and a member
of the Bloomington Knights of Columbus, a former board member of the Indiana
State Bottlers Association and served as president from 1964 to 1967. He was
a former board member of the Salvation Army, a member of the Bloomington Elks
Club, Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce. He was the owner of the Pepsi
Cola Bottlers Association and the manager of the Seymour and Bloomington operations
retiring in 1980. He was an Army Sergeant serving the WWII.
Funeral services were held January 26, 11 a.m. at the St. Louis Church, Batesville.
Burial will be in the St. Louis Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Salvation
Army, Indianapolis.

Shawn Douglas Gullion-Colen
Shawn Douglas Gullion-Colen, 2 months, of Bennington,
died Monday, January 17, 2005 at King's Daughters' Hospital,
Madison. He was born November 5, 2004
the son of Shawn Dennis Colen and Michelle Dawn Gullion and they survive.
Other survivors include brothers, Keegan and Wyatt Gullion of Bennington; maternal
grandparents, William and Sandra Gullion of Vevay; maternal great grandmother,
Evelyn M. Smith of Vevay; paternal grandparent, Dennis Colen of Rising Sun,
Curtis and Teresa Meadows of Greensburg; paternal great grandmother, Naomi
Colen of Rising Sun; several aunts, uncles, great aunts, great uncles, cousins
and other relatives. He was preceded in death by maternal great grandparents,
Rev. George E. "Buddy" Gullion, Roy and Dorothy Kirby Caplinger;
and paternal great grandfather, William Colen, Jr.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 21, 11 a.m. until the time of services
at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, Vevay. Funeral services will be
held Friday, 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Joe Caplinger officiating.
Burial will be in the Vevay Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family.

Arthur "Doc" Turner
Arthur "Doc" Turner, 64, of Versailles, passed away Wednesday, January
12, 2005 at is residence. He was born at Hazard, Kentucky on August 15, 1940
the son of Arnold and Ella Gibson Turner. He was married to Patricia Phares on
July 4, 1970 and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Scott Turner of Osgood, Kenny Turner of Versailles;
one daughter, Lana Turner of Ross, OH; one step-daughter, Karen Tope of Osgood;
three step-sons, Charles Tope of Hamilton, OH, Dale Tope of Hebron, KY, Timmy
Tope of Mason, OH; twenty grandchildren, two brothers, Bill Turner of Amelia,
OH, Bobby Turner of Hazard; and three sisters, Beulah Napier of Sun City, AZ,
Betty Cook of Hazard and Diane Vogt of Hamilton.
Mr. Turner was a machinist for Lunkenheimers in Cincinnati and was a member of
the VFW in Hazard and Sun City, Arizona.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 14, 11 a.m. until time of services at
1 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.
Funeral services will follow visitation at the funeral home at 1 p.m. with Dale
Day officiating. Memorials may be given to the donor's choice.
Ethel Erfman Schott
Ethel Erfman Schott, 93, of St. Peters, died Monday, January 10, 2005 at Margaret
Mary Community Hospital in Batesville. She was born May 17, 1911 in St. Peters
the daughter of John Arthur Dudley and Louise Hilbert Dudley, both deceased.
She married Alfred G. Erfman and he preceded her in death. She then married
Maurice C. Schott who also preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Julieann and Leo Wilhelm of
St. Leon; one son, James Erfman of St. Peters; one son and daughter-in-law,
Jerry
and Carolyn Erfman of Brookville; one son and fiancÈ, John Erfman and
Marilyn Merganthal of St. Peters; one brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Hortense
Dudley of St. Peters; one brother-in-law, Motz Kuhn of Harrison, OH; one sister-in-law,
Willa Mae Dudley of Osgood; twelve grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.
Mrs. Schott was a homemaker and also a cook for St. Peters School. She was a
member of St. Peters Catholic Church, National Council of Catholic Women, Tip
Topper Homemakers Club, St. Peters Card Club and New Horizon Ladies Guild.
Funeral mass will be held today, Thursday, January 13, 10:30 a.m. at St. Peters
Catholic Church with Rev. Humbert Moster officiating.
Burial will be in the St. Peters Cemetery. Memorials may go to the New Horizons
Ladies Guild, St. Peters Youth Group or the Masses.

Lucille Withered
Lucille Withered, 83, of Versailles and formerly of Milan died Tuesday, January
11, 1921 at Silver Bell Nursing Home, Versailles. She was born December 26,
1921 in Dearborn County the daughter of George and Ella Mae (Fletcher) Withered.
Survivors include one niece, Karen Dey of Milan and one great niece, Nichole
Dey of Milan.
Mrs. Withered was a former employee of Laughery Valley Co-op in Osgood. She was
a member of the Holman Christian Union Church, American Legion Auxiliary #235,
and the Help Your Neighbor Club.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 14 from 1-2:30 p.m. at the Sibbett-Moore
Funeral Home, Moores Hill. Funeral services will follow visitation at the funeral
home at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Henry Wallace officiating. Burial will be in the
Hogan Hill Cemetery north of Moores Hill.
Memorials may be made to the Holman Christian Union Church.
Michael Corey Dixon
Michael Corey Dixon, 28, of Laurel, died Sunday, January 9, 2005 at Fayette Memorial
Hospital in Connersville. He was born April 21, 1975 in Batesville the son
of Michael K. and Carol L. (Taul) Dixon and they survive in Batesville. He
married Melissa Durham and she also survives.
Other survivors include one son, Drew Bailey Dixon at home; one stepson, Ryan
Michael Spurlock at home; one sister and brother-in-law, Casey and Jim Sutton
of Dallas, TX; grandparents, Leroy and Eleanor Zimmerman of Milan; grandmother,
Mildred Taul of Glennville, GA; mother and father-in-law, Dale and Nancy Spencer
of Connersville; father-in-law and fiancÈ, Michael Durham and Daphne of
Laurel; grandparents, Eudale and Bonnie Thomas of Ocala, FL; grandmother, Vivian
Durham of Laurel; two sisters-in-law, Mica Durham of Metamora and April Spencer
of Raleigh, NC; and one brother-in-law, Michael Durham of Metamora. He was preceded
in death by his grandfathers, William Harry Dixon, Sr. and Leroy Taul and grandfather-in-law,
Frank Durham, Sr.
Mr. Dixon was a 1994 graduate of Batesville High School. He was an employee of
Batesville Casket Company and a member of the Batesville United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, January 13, 11 a.m. at Cook Funeral
Home in Brookville with Glen R. Goins officiating.
Burial will be in the St. Paul Cemetery in Sunman. Memorials may go to the family
or the charity of donor's choice.
Otto F. Purcell
Otto F. Purcell, 86, of Columbus, died Monday, January 10, 2005 at Columbus
Health & Rehabilitation
Center. He was born in Ripley County on March 1, 1918 the son of Otis Purcell
and Augusta Felix Purcell, both deceased. He married Bernetta Peters Purcell
on July 13, 1947 and she survives.
Other survivors include one, Thomas L. Purcell of North Carolina; one stepson,
Gene Brown of Columbus; one stepdaughter, Jennifer Crabtree of Franklin; one
sister, Jeanette Fuehrer of Noblesville; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne and William Purcell.
Mr. Purcell was a graduate of Versailles High School and Thomas Bright Floral
Design in Chicago, IL. He owned Purcell Florist in Columbus and was a florist
for 30 years. He was an Army veteran of WWII and a member of the First United
Methodist Church, the VFW, the American Legion and St. John's Masonic Lodge.
Private family services will be held at Cliff Hill cemetery in Versailles. Memorials
may go to the Alzheimer's Association.

Albertine A. Riehle
Albertine A. Riehle, 90, of Batesville, died Monday, January 3, 2005 at the Waters
of Batesville. She was born September 24, 1914 in Ripley County the daughter
of August Billman and Josephine Hausman Billman, both deceased. She married
Martin Riehle on November 24, 1937 at St. Nicholas Church and he preceded her
in death on September 1, 1985.
Survivors include one daughter, Susan Hornbach of Batesville; three sons, James
Riehle of Sunman, Norbert Riehle of Sunman, Thomas Riehle of Waldron; one sister-in-law,
Johanna Billman of Batesville; eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by five sisters, Ida Kopp, Rosella Moran, Hilda Riehle,
Marie Billman and Adeline Scollon and three brothers, Robert, Herbert and Wilbert
Billman.
Mrs. Riehle was a homemaker. She was also a member of St. Louis Catholic Church,
St. Nicholas Ladies Sodality and the St. Louis Ladies Society.
Visitation will be held today, Thursday, January 6, 4-8 p.m. at Weigel Funeral
Home in Batesville with rosary services at 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 7, 11 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic
Church in Batesville with Rev. Daniel Mahan officiating.
Burial will be in the St. Nicholas Cemetery. Memorials may go to the Batesville
EMS 10 or LifeTime Resources.
Henry McIntosh
Henry McIntosh, 73, of Versailles, formerly of Aurora, died Wednesday, December
29, 2004 at Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville. He was born August
24, 1931 in Owsley County, KY the son of Elmer and Vanie (Fields) McIntosh.
Survivors include his father, Elmer McIntosh of Aurora; one brother, Andrew McIntosh
of Aurora; and three sisters, Ruth (Delbert) Baker of Lawrenceburg, Mary Lay
of Lawrenceburg and Thelma Burns of Sunman. He was preceded in death by one brother,
Letcher McIntosh and one sister, Mayme Baker.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 2, 2 p.m. at Sibbett-Moore Funeral
Home in Moores Hill with Pastor Hobert Brandenberg officiating.
Burial was in the Hogan Hill Cemetery. Memorials may go to the First Southern
Baptist Church.
Mayme Baker
Mayme Baker, 81, of Aurora, died Tuesday, December 28, 2004 at her residence.
She was born April 20, 1923 in Owsley County, KY the daughter of Elmer and
Vanie (Fields) McIntosh. She married Kelly Baker on November 1, 1939 and he
survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Mayme Bowling of Aurora, Karen Helton
of Moores Hill; her father, Elmer McIntosh of Aurora; one brother, Andrew McIntosh
of Aurora; and three sisters, Ruth (Delbert) Baker of Lawrenceburg, Mary Lay
of Lawrenceburg and Thelma Burns of Sunman. She was preceded in death by two
brothers, Letcher and Henry McIntosh.
Mrs. Baker was a former employee of Seagrams and was an Avon representative for
many years. She was also a member of the First Southern Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 2, 2 p.m. at Sibbett-Moore Funeral
Home in Moores Hill with Pastor Hobert Brandenberg officiating.
Burial was in the Hogan Hill Cemetery. Memorials may go to the First Southern
Baptist Church.
Sr. Consuelo Esquibel
Sr. Consuelo Esquibel, 104, of the Sisters of St. Francis Convent in Oldenburg,
died Tuesday, January 4, 2004 at the Sisters of St. Francis Infirmary. She
was born February 16, 1900 in Nutrias, NM the daughter of Manuel D. Esquibel
and Lucia M. (Luzan) Esquibel, both deceased.
Survivors include two brothers, Pete Esquibel of Tierra Amarilla, NM and Arthur
Esquibel of Belen, NM. She was preceded in death by one brother, Alfredo Esquibel
and two sisters, Lucy Esquibel and Sr. Benedict Esquibel, O.S.F.
Sr. Esquibel entered the convent on June 30, 1925 and she made her final vows
on January 6, 1931. She was an elementary teacher for 47 years at various schools
in Ohio, Indiana, Missouri, New Mexico, Illinois and Kentucky. She retired to
the Motherhouse in 1985.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 7, 1-3 p.m. at the Srs. of St. Francis
Motherhouse Chapel in Oldenburg.
Funeral services will follow visitation at the chapel at 3 p.m. with Rev. Carl
Hawver, O.F.M. officiating.
Burial will be in the St. Francis Cemetery. Memorials may go to the Srs. of St.
Francis, P.O. Box 100, Oldenburg, Indiana 47036-0100.
