Glen Palmer
Glen Palmer, 83, of West Harrison died Saturday, January 22, 2005 at Woodland
Hills Care Center, Lawrenceburg. He was born January 24, 1921 the daughter
of George and Lillie M. (Hankins) Palmer. He married Margaret Ruth (Kieffer)
Palmer and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Jimmy W. Palmer and wife Diana of West Harrison,
Darrel E. Palmer and wife Susan of Harrison, Ohio; three grandchildren, Dennis
Michael Palmer and wife Sarah, Lori A. Trimble and husband Patrick and Jeni Lynn
Palmer. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Philip Michael Palmer.
Mr. Palmer worked at C.G.&E. retiring after 41 years of service. He was an
Army Veteran of WWII.
Visitation will be today, Tuesday, January 25, noon until the time of services
at 2 p.m. at Bovard-Holt-Furst Funeral Home, Versailles. Burial will be in the
Marble Corner Cemetery, Versailles. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
Herbert H. Siebert
Herbert H. Siebert, 93, of Batesville, died Sunday, January 23, 2005 at Hospitality
Hall, Batesville. He was born July 29, 1911. He married Arwilda Delay and she
preceded him in death May 2004.
Survivors include Wallace Schutte of Portage, MI.; and one granddaughter, Ann
Delay Schutte.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Judith K. Schutte; siblings, Chester
Siebert, Clara Wolf, Easter Hahn and Helen Pullman.
Mr. Siebert was retired from Union Furniture after 60 years of service.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 26, 9-11 a.m. at Meyers Funeral Home,
Batesville. F&AM service will begin at 9 a.m. Funeral services will be held
Wednesday, January 26, 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Larry Markanka officiating.
Burial will be in the Batesville United Methodist Cemetery.
Larry Gene Collier
Larry Gene Collier, 68, of Moores Hill, died Sunday, January 23, 2005 at the
Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis. He was born January 13, 1937 in London, KY
the son of Joseph and Ora May (Harris) Collier. He married Bonnie Johnson on
February 8, 1985 and she survives.
Other survivors include one son, Vernon (Stephanie) Johnson Sr. of Dillsboro;
two daughters, Clarissa (Ron) McCall of Scottsburg, Shella (Johnny) Dilley of
West Salem, IL; one brother, Tom Wilson of Holton; two sisters, Loraine White
of Hamilton, OH., Ora Selmeyer of Dillsboro; ten grandchildren; and one great
granddaughter.
Mr. Collier was a self-employed accountant. He served as the minister for the
Church of Christ in Milton, IN.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 26, 6-8 p.m. at Sibbett-Moore Funeral
Home, Moores Hill. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 27, 11 a.m.
at the funeral home with Roy Duckworth and Jay Jones officiating. Cremation will
follow. Memorials may be made to the Milton Church of Christ.

Linda Grace Hilton
Linda Grace Hilton, of Osgood, died Wednesday, January 19, 2005 at Margaret Mary
Community Hospital, Batesville. She was born January 24, 1951 at Minneapolis,
Minnesota the daughter of Edward W. and Ruth Kuntson Rork, both deceased. She
married Michael E. Hilton, May 12, 1989 and he survives.
Other survivors include one son, Danny Roe and wife Amanda Vanosdol of Greensburg;
three daughters, Johna Wilson of Columbus, Jenny Vanosdol of Napoleon, Melinda
Vanosdol of St. Paul; three brothers, Charles Rork of Batesville, David Rork
of Gurley, Alabama, Michael Rork of Osgood; three sisters, Carol Hunter of Greensburg,
Faith Baughn of Osgood, Sandra Brown of Horseshoebend, Arkansas; and six grandchildren.
Mrs. Hilton was a member of the Osgood United Methodist Church, owned and operated
the Lollypop Ceramics in Osgood and was a foster parent for Indiana Youth Advocate
Program.
Funeral services were held Friday, January 21, 2 p.m. at Neal's Funeral Home,
Osgood. Burial was in the Grandview Cemetery, Madison. Memorials may be made

Ray Shelton
Ray Shelton, 71, of Milan, died Saturday, January 22, 2005 at the Dearborn County
Hospital, Lawrenceburg. He was born August 21, 1933 in Crab Orchard, Kentucky
the son of Dudley and Louisa (Muncie) Shelton. He had been married to Ruth
Ann Guard, Eva Siefert and Sue Bearden.
Survivors include four daughters, Kathy (David) Shaw of Versailles, Vera (Jerry)
Bearden of Franklin, Dora (Doug) Price of Milan, Raye Jean Shelton of Holton;
three brothers, Lawrence Shelton of Cincinnati, Phillip Shelton of Burkesville,
Kentucky, Billy Shelton of Louisville, Kentucky; two sisters, Dora Brunner and
Lela Mae Bishop both of Nicholasville, Kentucky; ten grandchildren; one great
grandchild; and three stepsons and one stepdaughter.
Mr. Shelton was retired from Pierce-Hollowell Company. He was a member of the
American Legion and as a US Army Veteran having served in the Korean Conflict.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 26, 11-1 p.m. at the Milan First Baptist
Church. Funeral services will follow visitation, 1 p.m. with Pastor Harris Long
officiating. Burial will be in the New Craven Cemetery, Milan with military graveside
rites conducted by the Milan Legion Post #235. Memorials may be made to the Milan
First Baptist Church or Rescue 30.

Ruth G. Hughes, 81, of Osgood, died Wednesday, January 19, 2005 at Margaret Mary
Community Hospital, Batesville. She was born July 6, 1923 in Austin. She married
Arthur V. Hughes and he preceded her in death on April 25, 1993.
Survivors include two sons, Mike Hughes of Osgood, Pat Hughes of Orlando, Florida;
nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and two sisters, Nola Wanhala
of CA, and Resa Adams of TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband,
one sister and three brothers.
Mrs. Hughes was a homemaker and a retired technician and machinist from Lockheed.
Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, January 25, 2 p.m. at Cook Funeral
Home, Sunman. Burial will be in the St. Paul Cemetery, Sunman. Memorials may
be made to the Tri-County Ambulance Service or the charity of the donor's choice.
Samuel S. Schwartz
Samuel S. Schwartz, 81, of Canaan, died Sunday, January 23, 2005 at his residence.
He was born October 27, 1923 in Berne the son of Sam J. Schwartz and Elizabeth
(Schwartz) Schwartz. He married Elizabeth J. (Wickey) Schwartz on November
15, 1942 and she survives.
Other survivors include five sons, Jerry Schwartz and wife Marie of Bowling Green,
MO, Jake Schwartz and wife Elizbeth of Canaan, Amos Schwartz and wife Rhoda of
Salem, MO, Samuel Schwartz and wife Lida of Hastand, KY, David Schwartz and wife
Susie of Ohio; one daughter, Melinda Yoder and husband Chris of Bowling Green,
MO; three brothers, Jake Schwartz of Bennington, Joe Schwartz of Angola, Noah
Schwartz of Bowling Green, MO, five sisters, Lizzie Borntreger and Anna Borntreger
both of Bowling Green, MO; Barbara Yoder of Glasgow, KY; Verena Schwartz and
Carlina Schwartz both of Bowling Green, MO; 50 grandchildren; 101 great grandchildren;
many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two children, Daniel Schwartz and infant
stillborn; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one brother, John Schwartz;
and two sisters, Mary Hilty and Katie Eicher.
Mr. Schwartz was a wheelwright and blacksmith by trade. He repaired buggies all
of his life. He was a member of the Old Order Amish.
Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, January 25, 1-7 p.m. and Thursday, January
26, 1-7 and Thursday, January 27 from 8 a.m. until the time of services at the
Jake Schwartz residence at 7958 N. Scotts Ridge Road, Canaan, near Pleasant.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 27 at 9 a.m. at the Jake N. Schwartz
residence. Burial will be in the Old Order Amish Cemetery, Pleasant.

Vickie Ann Olds, 54, of Fairfield, Ohio died Thursday, January 20, 2005 at University
Hospital, Cincinnati. She was born February 3, 1950 in Jefferson County, Indiana
the daughter of Harold E. and Marjorie (Reed) Olds.
Survivors include her mother Marjorie Olds of Versailles; two aunts, Betty Shelton
and Freda Thornton; one uncle, William Olds; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father; brother, Michael Olds; grandparents
and several aunts and uncles.
Ms Olds graduated from St. Joseph College and was employed at General Electric
since 1970 as an x-ray technician. She was a member of Rolling Hills Baptist
Church and the GE Union.
Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, January 25 at 10 a.m. at Rolling
Hills Baptist Church, Fairfield. Another funeral service will be held the same
day at 2:30 p.m. at the Versailles Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 1:30
p.m. until the time of services at the Versailles Baptist Church. Burial will
be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery, Versailles.

Arden D. Watson, 78, of Moores Hill, died Friday, January 14, 2005 at University
Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. He was born December 2, 1926 in Casey County, KY
the son of Talmage and Etter (Baxter) Watson, both deceased. He married Pauline
Wheeler Watson on January 5, 1948 and she preceded him in death on February
28, 1994.
Survivors include four sons, Jerry Watson of Liberty, KY, Gerald Watson of Indiana,
John Watson of Brookville, Paul Watson of Moores Hill, five daughters, Paula
Taylor of Moores Hill, Glenna Cantwell of Goshen, OH, Peggy McIntosh of Friendship,
Jacquline Seavers of Friendship; Pamela Cummins of Moores Hill; one brother,
George Watson of Louisiana; two sisters, Louisa Hoffmeier of Lawrenceburg, Elizabeth
Meyer of California; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and
nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Watson, one granddaughter,
Elizath Watson; two sisters; and six brothers.
Mr. Watson was a retired farmer and carpenter. He was a WWII veteran and was
also a member of the Moores Hill American Legion Post. He also belonged to the
South Sparta Community Church.

Funeral Home in Moores Hill.

Jean Pate Osborn
Barbara Jean Pate Osborn, 76, of near Bennington, died January 16, 2005 at her
residence. She was born January 22, 1928 in Indianapolis, the daughter of Judson
Albert Pate and Aldean Pendry Pate, both deceased. She married Chester Leon Osborn
January 18, 1947 in Vevay and he survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Mary Jo Taylor of Bennington, Linda Hehe
and husband Joe of Center Square; one son, John David Osborn of Bennington; eight
grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Two sons, James Russell Osborn
and Richie Leon Osborn preceded her in death.
Mrs. Osborn was employed for many years at Muscatatuck State Hospital in Butlerville
as a nurse's aide. She later worked at the Plastic Molding Company in East Enterprise
and the U.S. Shoe Corporation in Vevay. She was a member of the Switzerland County
Community Church.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 19, 5-8 p.m., at the Haskell & Morrison
Funeral Home, Vevay. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 20, 1 p.m.
at the funeral home with Rev. Charles Dayadharum officiating. Burial will follow

Caroline Ashcraft, 95, of Milan, died Sunday, January 16, 2005 at Ripley Crossing
in Milan. She was born August 27, 1909 in Ripley County near Pleasant Hill
the daughter of Richard "Dick" and Katie (Thornton) Caplinger. She
married Wilbert "Mack" Ashcraft on March 30, 1929 and he preceded
her in death on November 5, 1971.
Survivors include one son, Charles and wife Ruth Ashcraft of Versailles; one
daughter, Joan and husband LeVon Winters of Milan; four grandchildren, Jody Karst,
Todd Winters, Robert Charles Ashcraft and Gregg Alan Ashcraft; and three great
grandchildren. One son, Robert Ashcraft preceded her in death.
Mrs. Ashcraft was a member of the Milan First Baptist Church and the missionary
group of the church. She was a homemaker and worked at the Milan Furniture Factory
for 27 years.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 19, 1-2:30 p.m. at the Milan First
Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the church with
Pastor Harris Long officiating. Burial will be in the Craven Cemetery, Milan.

Edward John Forwalt, Jr., 68, of Osgood, died Thursday, January 13, 2005 at his
residence. He was born October 6, 1936 in Cincinnati, OH the son of Edward John
Forwalt, Sr. and Edna Lee Tummy Forwalt, both deceased. He married Gladys (Powers)
Forwalt on June 6, 1958 in Lawrenceburg and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Jerry Forwalt of Osgood, Ricky Forwalt and
wife Roberta of North Vernon; four daughters, Debbie Brown and husband Sam of
Batesville, Cynthia Smith and husband Benete of Butlerville, Sandy Lewis and
husband Dana of North Vernon, Edwina Caffee and husband Brad of Comminsky; four
sisters, Jackie Patrick and husband Goble of Versailles, Darlene Stegner and
husband Mike of Osgood, Charlotte Forwalt of Flemingsburg, KY, Marion Edwards
and husband Nick of Versailles; three brothers, Russell Forwalt and wife Janet
of Holton, Harry Forwalt of Holton, Jim Squires of Cincinnati, OH; twenty-three
grandchildren; and twenty-three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death
by one sister, Edna Mae Powers.
Mr. Forwalt was an electrical contractor for Union #1393. He was an Air Force
veteran of the Korean War and also a member of the Cedar Creek Community Church.

Gertrude C. Gehring
Gertrude C. Gehring, 82, of Oldenburg, died Saturday, January 15, 2005 at Hospitality
Hall in Batesville. She was born March 11, 1922 in Decatur County the daughter
of Frank Lamping and Laura Saeger Lamping, both deceased. She married Leo Gehring
on October 25, 1941 at St. Maurice Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Jeanette Lamping of Oldenburg, Barb Nobbe
of Batesville, Sharon Steinfort of Batesville; one son, Steve Gehring of Batesville;
two sisters, Frieda Dyer of Greensburg, Loretta Macyauski of Greensburg; ten
grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one
daughter, Alice Sell and two sisters, Helen Bessler and Claira Lamping.
Mrs. Gehring was a homemaker and a member of the Holy Family Church.

Branham Tinker
Gladys Ruth Branham Tinker, 78, of Vevay, near Fairview,
died Sunday, January 16, 2005 at her residence. She was born
September 19, 1926 the daughter of James
Edward Branham and Anna Laura Mahoney Branham, both deceased. She married Robert
W. "Bob" Tinker on April 16, 1945 and he preceded her in death on October
12, 1999.
Survivors include one daughter, Donna Jean Tinker and companion Denzil Cutter
of Fairview; two sons, Donald Wayne "Butch" Tinker of Fairview, Robert
Lee "Pee Wee" Tinker and companion Sue Sams of Pleasant; one sister,
Esther Wooten (Bill) of Indianapolis; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren;
and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Lou
Ann Tinker; one son, Tommy Lynn Tinker; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law,
Wilbur and Thelma Tinker; one niece, Kathy Wooten; one nephew, Brian Tinker;
one great-niece, Sarah Nicole Tinker; and her grandpa and grandma, William B.
and Nellie Ada Jewell Mahoney.
Mrs. Tinker graduated from Campbellsburg High School in 1945. She was the secretary
of Tinker Implements for many years. She was also a supply bus driver for Switzerland
County, was a member of the Fairview Nightowls Home Ec Club and the Fairview
United Methodist Church.

Funeral Home in Vevay.

Helen Hope Brock, 86, of Batesville, died Saturday, January 15, 2005 at Hospitality
Hall in Batesville. She was born June 15, 1918 in Parowan, UT the daughter
of Daniel Sinclair and Annice Ann (McMullin) Parker, both deceased. She married
Carl Blythe Brock on October 31, 1936 in Parowan, UT and he preceded her in
death on September 16, 1980.
Survivors include five daughters, Betty (late William) Cummins of Seattle, WA,
Ruth Ann (Gary) Parker of Hartford, CN, Mary (Dale) Giesting of Batesville, Susan
(Ray) Mason of Colorado Springs, CO, Connie (David) Waldram of Tustin, CA; one
son, Robert (Maureen) Brock of Vancouver, WA; one brother, Frank Parker of Champlain,
NY; sixteen grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded
in death by one son, Daniel Joseph Brock; one daughter, Amy Joyce Brock; eight
brothers; and one sister.
Mrs. Brock was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter Day Saints Batesville Ward.

Marjorie L. Johannigman, 72, of Millhousen, died Thursday, January 13, 2005 at
her residence. She was born July 1, 1932 in Greensburg the daughter of Aloysius
and Anna (Stier) Scheidler, both deceased. She married Roman M. Johannigman on
August 2, 1952 and he survives.

Cathy Lynn Weiler, 32, of Batesville, died Friday, January 7, 2005 at Columbus
Regional Hospital in Columbus. She was born January 22, 1972 in Batesville
the daughter of Michael S. and Louise "Weasie" (Grooms) Weiler and
they survive in Batesville. She was a member of the St. Louis Catholic Church.
Other survivors include her paternal grandmother, Anna Mae Weiler of Milford,
OH; one brother, Michael A. Weiler of Batesville; and also aunts, uncles and
cousins.
Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, January 11, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Meyers
Funeral Home in Batesville.
Mass of Christian burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the St. Louis Catholic Church

Donald L. Tucker
Donald L. Tucker, 91, of Indianapolis, formerly of Osgood, died Friday, January
7, 2005 at Community North Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born July 14, 1913
in Jennings County the son of Ora and Cora French Tucker, both deceased. He
married Martha Marie Myers on July 14, 1940 and she preceded him in death on
October 30, 1994.
Survivors include one daughter, Donna Marie Thomley of Indianapolis; one brother,
Lowell Tucker of Washington; and one sister, Verna Hull of Punta Gorda, FL. He
was preceded in death by one son, Marvin Denver Tucker; three brothers, Lester,
Osa and E.J. Tucker; and three sisters, Rose Layton, Lottie Johnson and Virginia
Nagle.
Mr. Tucker owned and operated Tucker's Jewelry Store in Osgood from 1937-1997.
He received a certificate from the governor for 60 years of having operated a
business. He was also a licensed watchmaker, a member of the Osgood First Baptist
Church and a member of the Osgood Masonic Lodge for over 50 years.
Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, January 11, 9-11 a.m. at Neal's Funeral
Home in Osgood.

Ella Rose McGuire
Ella Rose McGuire, infant daughter of Justin McGuire and Chrystal Bushorn of
Osgood, passed away Saturday, January 8, 2005 at the University Hospital in
Cincinnati, OH. She was born January 5, 2005.
Besides her parents, she is survived by her paternal grandparents, Artie and
Connie McGuire of Madison; maternal grandparents, Andy and Melanie Bushorn of
Aurora and Scott and Mollie Manis of Osgood; paternal great-grandparents, Jackie
and Janice McGuire of Madison and Mitchell Tussey of Franklin, OH; maternal great-grandparents,
Betty Manis of Aurora, Clifford and Judy Bushorn of Milan, Barbara Clift of Holton;
aunts and uncles Jonathan McGuire, Grant McGuire, Maranda Barrett, Ciara McGuire,
Ryan Bushorn, Adam Bushorn, Scott Manis, Jr. and Kelly Manis. She was preceded
in death by her uncle, Garrett McGuire; paternal great-grandmother, Joyce Tussey;
and maternal great-grandparents, Ernest Clift, Sr. and Donzell Manis, Sr.

Gertrude Alice Spurlock
Gertrude Alice Spurlock, 78, of Moores Hill, died Sunday, January 9, 2005 at
the Dearborn County Hospital, Lawrenceburg. She was born April 7, 1926 in Elida,
Ohio the daughter of Reuben and Leah (Good) Brunk. She married Ford Spurlock
on December 21, 1951 and he preceded her in death on July 21, 1988.
Survivors include five daughters, Dawn (Pablo) Tello of Albuquerque, New Mexico,
Dottie (Ron) Leach of Kodak, TN, DeEtta Fernander of Rockholds, KY, Wanda (Randy)
Pindell of Moores Hill, Mary Ann (Bill) Janney of Butlerville; two brothers,
Lawrence Brunk of PA, Kenneth Brunk of VA; three sisters, Gladys Cressman of
OH, Miriam Heatwole of OH, Margaret Stemen of OH; eight grandchildren and seven
great grandchildren. One sister, Lillian Amstutz, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Spurlock was a member of the Mennonite Faith and was a member of the Washington
Baptist Church at Elrod.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 1 from 6-8 p.m. at Sibbett-Moore Funeral
Home, Moores Hill. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 12 at 11
a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Bruce Fitzsimmons and Rev. Kenneth Brunk officiating.
Burial will be in the Franklin Church Cemetery north of Milan. Memorials may
be made to the Gideons or Washington Baptist Church.

(Trigger) Hughes
James Harold (Trigger) Hughes, 78, of Dillsboro, died Wednesday, January 5, 2005
at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. He was born March 24, 1926 in Bourne,
KY the son of James Hughes and Lillian Perkins, both deceased. He married Mary
E. Smith and she survives.
Other survives include four sons, James A. Hughes of Dillsboro, David L. Hughes
of Dillsboro, Timothy W. Hughes of Dayton, OH, Jeffrey L. Hughes of Lawrenceburg;
five sisters, Lillian Wagner of Cincinnati, OH, Edith Ransom of Dillsboro, Iona
Luhrsen of Aurora, Jacquelin Rininger of Cleves, OH, Jean Nay of Madison; thirteen
grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one
brother, John N. Hughes and one sister, Norma Rueter.
Mr. Hughes was a farmer and a veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving
from 1943-1946. He was also a member of the Northcutt Laaker American Legion
Post #292, retired from Monsanto Port Plastic in Addyston and was a baseball
coach for Little League.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 9, 2 p.m. at Bear Creek Baptist Church
in Friendship.
Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery in Dillsboro with military graveside rites
conducted by the Northcutt Laaker American Legion Post #292.

Joseph Glen Watson
Joseph Glen Watson, 46, of Cincinnati, OH, formerly of Moores Hill, died Saturday,
January 8, 2005 in Sebastian, FL. He was born March 25, 1958 in Liberty, KY
the son of Arden and Pauline (Wheeler) Watson. He married Vera Roy and she
survives. He was a carpenter by trade.
Other survivors include one son, Troy Watson of Cincinnati, OH; four daughters,
Michelle Sammons, Crystal Woodlum, Tammy Watson and Mickey Woodlum, all of Cincinnati,
OH; his father, Arden Watson of Moores Hill; four brothers, Jerry Watson of Liberty,
KY, Gerald Watson of Indiana, John Watson of Brookville, Paul Watson of Moores
Hill; five sisters, Paula Taylor of Moores Hill, Glenna Cantwell of Goshen, OH,
Peggy McIntosh of Friendship, Jacquline Seavers of Friendship, Pamela Cummins
of Moores Hill; thirteen grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was
preceded in death by his mother and one son, Michael.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 14, 9-11 a.m. at South Sparta Community
Church.
Funeral services will follow visitation at the church at 11 a.m. with Rev. Henry
Wallace officiating.
Burial will be in the South Sparta Cemetery. Memorials may be given to help with
funeral expenses.

Martha L. Brooks
Martha L. Brooks, 68, of North Vernon, passed away Saturday, January 8, 2005
at the Columbus Regional Hospital. She was born at Hanover on March 7, 1936
the daughter of Albert and Reona Watson. She was married to Edward Brooks on
September 25, 1954 and he preceded her in death on February 18, 1979.
Survivors include two sons, Gary Brooks and wife Cindy, Randal Brooks and wife
Brenda, all of Versailles; one daughter, Patti Brooks of Versailles; one sister,
Inez Mitchum of Houston, TX; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Brooks had worked at Ohio Rod in Versailles and had retired from the dietary
department of the Muscatatuck State Developmental Center.
Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, January 11, 6-8 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter
Funeral Home in Versailles.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 12, 1 p.m. at the Benham United
Methodist Church with Jerry Brooks and Rev. Phil Meyer officiating.
Burial will be in the Benham Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Jennings
County Humane Society or the American Bible Society in care of the funeral home.

Mary Virginia Wolters
Mary Virginia Wolters, 77, of Batesville, died Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at
Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville. She was born April 29, 1927
in Cincinnati, OH the daughter of Herbert and Loraine (Eisman) Farley, both
deceased. She married Harry Wolters in July 23, 1951 in Cincinnati, OH and
he preceded her in death on March 31, 2001.
Survivors include six sons, Jim (Jeri) Ward, John (Nancy) Ward, Harry A. (Karin)
Wolters, George L. (Linda) Wolters, Bob L. (Anne) Wolters and Rod Wolters; one
sister, Loraine Siefert of Morris; one brother, Arthur Farley of Indianapolis;
fourteen grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by two brothers, Herbert and Roger Farley.
Mrs. Wolters owned and operated Hot Rod's and later Marod's Tavern. She was a
member of St. Louis Catholic Church and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Private funeral services were held Saturday, January 8 at Meyers Funeral Home
in Batesville.
Burial was in the St. Louis Church Cemetery. Memorials may go to the American
Cancer Society.
Norma L. Roedl
Norma L. Roedl, 80, of Milan, died Saturday, January 8, 2005 at Hospitality Hall
in Batesville. She was born January 28, 1924 in Morgonton, NC the daughter
of John B. and Nora (Cuthbertson) Wacaster, both deceased. She married Melvin
(Dick) Roedl on July 14, 1945 and he survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Larry (Michele) Roedl of Westchester, OH, James
(Teresa) Roedl of Aurora; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Carolyn) Shock of Hawthorne,
FL, Mrs. Constance Stine of Phoenix, AZ; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one grandchild, Michael, four brothers and five
sisters.
Mrs. Roedl was a former employee of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. She
was a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church in Milan.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 13, 11:30 a.m. at St. Charles
Catholic Church in Milan with Father Frank Eckstein officiating. Cremation will
follow.
Memorials may go to the Dearborn County or Margaret Mary Hospice. Laws-Carr-Moore

Richard Lee Ragan
Richard Lee Ragan, 60, of Holton, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at his
residence. He was born in Dayton, OH on January 15, 1944 the son of Lee and
Lucy Kenner Ragan. He was married to Leta Green on January 5, 1976 and she
survives. Other survivors include his mother, Lucy Ragan of Holton; one son,
Timothy Ragan of Delaware and Kelly Jo Ragan of Holton along with two grandchildren,
Katelyn Ryker and Dakota Hurd.
Mr. Ragan was a retired carpenter and a veteran.

Lanvermeyer
Romana N. Lanvermeyer, 92, of Dillsboro, died Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at the
Waters of Ross Manor in Dillsboro. She was born June 2, 1912 in Dillsboro the
daughter of Paul Lenover and Martha Meyer, both deceased. She married Reynold
Lanvermeyer and he preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Eileen Kelly Davies and husband Francis of Dillsboro;
two granddaughters, Teresa Davies Aldrich and husband Ross of Terrace Park, OH,
Rebecca Davies of Dillsboro; one grandson, David Lynn Davies and wife Pam of
Dillsboro; and six great grandchildren.
Mrs. Lanvermeyer was a member of the Dillsboro United Methodist Church, was active
in AARP and Fifty Plus Club and wrote two books. She owned several restaurants,
did catering and also baked and decorated wedding cakes.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 10, 11 a.m. at Ulrich Filter Funeral
Home in Dillsboro.
Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery in Dillsboro. Memorials may go to the Dillsboro

(Slawson) Manuel
Dorothy (Slawson) Manuel, 100, formerly of Versailles, died Tuesday, December
28, 2004 at Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. She was born July 13, 1904
in Bennington the daughter of Lyman Beecher Slawson and Ella (McHenry) Slawson,
both deceased. She married Rev. Thomas Manuel on November 9, 1925 and he preceded
her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Evangeline Boyer of Concord, CA, Irene LeCompte
of Zephyer Hills, FL; four sons, Russell Manuel of Las Vegas, NV, Donald Manuel
of Pueblo, CO, Larry Manuel of Indianapolis, Paul Manuel of Everman, TX; one
nephew, Atrie Slawson of Bennington; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren
and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Armie
Slawson, Byron Slawson, Robert Slawson; and one sister, Leona Slawson Porter.
Mrs. Manuel was a homemaker and had taught Sunday school classes and helped with
the music at churches her husband pastored for. Those churches were in Robinson,
IL, Fulton and Huntington, IN and the Versailles Wesleyan Church.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 5, 4-7 p.m. and also Thursday, January
6, 12 noon until time of services at the Bovard-Holt-Furst Funeral Home in Versailles.
Funeral services will follow visitation at the funeral home on Thursday, January
6 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Don Jewell officiating.
Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery. Memorials may go to the Versailles
Wesleyan Church.
Elaine Ferrell
Elaine Ferrell, 54, of Seaman, Ohio passed away Saturday, January 1, 2005 at
University Hospital in Cincinnati. She was born September 3, 1950 in Lawrenceburg,
the daughter of Dilbert and Martha Barrett of Versailles and they survive.
She married Mark E. Ferrell and he survives.
Other survivors include one brother, Tim Barrett of Versailles; one sister, Marlene
Smith of Versailles; maternal grandmother, Lois Feller of Lawrenceburg; four
stepchildren, Michelle Ferrell of Carlisle, Ohio, Shawn Kelly Rose of Middletown,
Ohio, Mark Shannon Ferrell and wife Amanda of Franklin, Ohio, Matthew Ferrell
and wife Manda of Germantown, Ohio; eight grandchildren; seven nieces and nephews;
two aunts, Janet and Christine; and one uncle, Jim.
Mrs. Ferrell was employed as a quality inspector at the GM Truck and Bus Company
in Moraine for 20 years.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 5, 2005 from 12 noon to 2 p.m. and
6 to 8 p.m. at the Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main Street, Middletown, Ohio.
Graveside services will be Thursday, January 6 at 12 noon at the Akers Friendship
Community Cemetery, Friendship with Pastor Sherman Hughes officiating.

Jimi" Gardner
James Richard "Jimi" Gardner, 59, of Florence, died Wednesday, December
29, 2004 at Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg. He was born December 31,
1944 in Steuben County, New York the son of Fay Cecil Gardner and Florence "Skip" Louise
(Aldrich) Gardner. He married Judith Ann "Judy" Kamerer and she survives.
Other survivors include one daughter, Pete Hill of Columbus; nine sons, James
R. Gardner, Jr. of Corning, NY, Jimi Gardner of Bangor, Maine, Jamie Gardner
of Cincinnati, OH, Todd Gardner of Indianapolis, Dana Gardner of Cincinnati,
OH, Scottie Gardner of Atlanta, GA, Frank Gardner of Florence, KY, Joey Gardner
of Cincinnati, OH, Sonny Gardner of near East Enterprise; three sisters, Jo Anne
Mains of Elkhart, PA, Connie Dean and Jeanine Stuffer both of Corning, NY; one
adopted brother, Bucky Gardner of Corning, NY; his mother, Florence "Skip" Gardner
of Corning, KY; twelve grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father, Fay Cecil Gardner and one brother, Burt
Gardner.
Mr. Gardner was a 1961 graduate of Corning High School and attended Florida State
University. He was currently employed with Swiss Caps near Patriot working in
production and fabrication for the past three years. He was also a member of
the Carpenter's Union Local 126 in Cincinnati for the past 30 years. He was also
a member of the Vevay American Legion Post 185, attended St. Ann Catholic Church
and was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.
Family and friends are encouraged to visit the family at home. Memorials may

Mary Elizabeth Casey, 89, of Potomac Falls, VA, died Thursday, December 30, 2004
at Cameron Glen Nursing Home in Reston, VA. She was born November 15, 1915
in Moores Hill the daughter of Edward Brown and Eva Stella Taylor, both deceased.
She married Marion Casey and he preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, Roger L. Casey of Potomas Falls, VA; one daughter,
Judith (Casey) Rambow of Elkhart; one sister, Dolores E. Fogle of Mt Vernon,
OH; six grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by one son, Alan W. Casey; and three brothers, Everett, Estal and Harold
Brown.
Mrs. Casey was a life long Methodist and also an insurance underwriter.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 7, 5-8 p.m. at Filter Funeral Home in
Aurora.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 8, 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Paul W. Sullivan
Paul W. Sullivan, 66, of Elizabethtown, died Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at
the hospice center.
He retired as a tool grinder at Cummins Engine Company where he had worked for
40 years. He was a member of Ceraland Skeet Club and the National Rifle Association.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 3 at Barkes, Inlow & Weaver Funeral
Home on Washington Street with the Rev. Jon Porter officiating. Cremation will
follow the service.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice of South Central Indiana or American Diabetes
Association.
Born April 15, 1938 Mr. Sullivan was the son of Roy and Ruth Long Sullivan. He
married Patricia A. Morgan on October 20, 1956.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Rex L. Sullivan of Greensburg; a daughter,
Annette G. Tucker of Osgood; a sister, Joyce Bundy of Madison; grandchildren,
Mandy Huff, Cory and Dustin Sullivan and Kyle and Trent Tucker; and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Charlene Barthlow.
Velora K. Pollert
Velora K. Pollert, age 71, Seymour, passed away on January 1, 2005 at Lutheran
Community Home in Seymour. She was born November 18, 1933 in Cross Plains to
Martin Klusman and Anna Torwelle Klusman. She was a homemaker and member of
Immanuel Lutheran Church, Immanuel Ladies Guild, LWML and the choir. On July
28, 1962 in Cross Plains she married Harold Pollert and he survives.
Mrs. Pollert is survived by her children, David Pollert of Seymour; John Pollert,
Pope Air Force Base, North Carolina; Richard Pollert, Columbus; Luann Reynolds,
Seymour; one brother, Gilbert Klusman, Texas; one sister, Adina Jacobitz, Nebraska;
grandchildren, Brennyn Pollert, Alaysha Pollert, Grainger Pollert, Tayor Reynolds,
Chandler Reynolds, Bailey Kaye Reynolds, Brody Downs and Parker Ulrey. She is
preceded in death by her parents and brothers Howard Klusman and Leroy Klusman.

and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.

(Ashcraft) Dorrell
Violet (Ashcraft) Dorrell, 93, of Versailles, died Wednesday, December 29, 2004
at the Waters of Ross Manor in Dillsboro. She was born June 28, 1911 in Friendship
the daughter of Walter Ashcraft and Rachel (Cash) Ashcraft, both deceased. She
married Russell Dorrell on January 30, 1937 and he preceded her in death on June
7, 1977. She was a member of the Versailles Church of Christ.
Survivors include one sister-in-law, Peggy Ashcraft of Crittenden, KY and several
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 3 at the Versailles Church of Christ
in Versailles with Brother Dale Day officiating.
Burial was in the New Cemetery in Rising Sun. Memorials may be given to the Versailles
Church of Christ or the Cancer Society.
