Ronnie G. Walcott
Ronnie G. Walcott, 57, of Milan passed away Sunday, August 29, 2004 at the Dillsboro
Manor. He was born at Milan on May 17, 1947 the son of Floyd and Pearl Eaglin
Walcott. He was married to Jean Cottingham on July 20, 1978 and she survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Rhonda Wagner and her husband Aaron
of Moores Hill, Denise Walcott of Milan, and Jill Bonar and her husband Greg
of Milan; three grandchildren, Lani, Jacob, and Daniel Bonar; one brother Jerry
Walcott of Lawrenceburg; four sisters, Cosette Heine of Lawrenceburg, Rosalie
Stevens of New Richmond, Ohio, Lois West of Indianapolis, and Marna Ross of Manchester.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Dilver.
Mr. Walcott was a 1965 graduate of Milan High School and was an Army veteran
of Vietnam. He retired from Seagram's in 2003 after 37 years and was a member
of the Milan American Legion and the Ripley County Voiture 40 & 8.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 1, at 11 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter
Funeral Home in Versailles. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 31 from 5 p.m.
to 8 p.m. Burial will be in the Craven Cemetery in Milan with military graveside
rites by the Milan American Legion. Memorials may be given to Milan Rescue 30
in care of the funeral home.
Bernice C. Tingle
Bernice C. Tingle, 84, of Benham, passed away Saturday, August 28, 2004 at her
residence. She was born near Moorefield in Switzerland County on January 13,
1920 the daughter of Charles and Lena Tingle Monroe. She was married to Alton
Tingle on November 15, 1960 and he survives.
Other survivors include three sons, William Herman, Jr. and wife Loan of Dallas,
Bob Herman and wife Joanne of Trafalgar, Don Herman and wife Sue of Phoenix,
one brother, Charles Monroe of Rexville, two sisters, Lottie Butler and Juanita
Wilson, both of Phoenix, her mother-in-law, Mrs. Elsie Tingle of Osgood, seventeen
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her
parents, her daughter, Evelyn Marie Ross, brothers William, Adolphus and Kenneth
Monroe and her sisters, Margaret Washburn and Geneva Monroe.
Mrs. Tingle was a 1938 graduate of Manual High School in Indianapolis and retired
from Indiana Bell in 1961.
Graveside services were held Monday, August 30 at 3 p.m. at the Benham Cemetery
with Rev. Lynn Snyder officiating. Memorials may be given to the Salvation Army
or the Benham Cemetery.

Clarence R. Putman
Clarence R. Putman, 68, of Osgood, died Wednesday, August 25, 2004 at his residence.
He was born December 26, 1935 in Hopkinsville, KY the son of Willie Bailey
and Lucille Littlepage Putman, both deceased. He married Josie Jones Flanigan
on October 29, 1972 and she survives.
Other survivors include one daughter, Sheila (Howard) Carr of Osgood, two sons,
Brian (Heather) Flanigan and Bill (Tanya Jane) Flanigan, Jr., all of Connersville,
six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one brother, John Wayne (Penny) Putman
of Kentucky, three sisters, Mrs. Larry (Bernice) Nance, Mrs. Al (Saundra Jo)
Bratcher and Mrs. Bobby (Elane) Renshaw, all of Kentucky and several nieces and
nephews.
Mr. Putman had been a self-employed exterminator for most of his life. He was
also a member of PKC, Professional Kennel Club.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 30 at 11 a.m. at Miller, Moster, Robbins
Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Flanigan, Jr. officiating. Burial was in the Dale
Cemetery.
Matthew Ryan Good
Matthew Ryan Good, 19, of Dillsboro, died Saturday, August 28, 2004 at University
Hospital, Cincinnati. He was born December 4, 1984 at Camp Pendleton, CA, the
son of Victor Scott Good and Tanya Louise Webster Good and they survive in
Dillsboro.
Other survivors include one brother, Anthony J. Good of USS J.F. Kennedy; one
sister, Katie Jo Good of Dillsboro, one niece, Tara Rogers of Aurora; maternal
grandfather, Ron Wells of Lawrenceburg and maternal grandmother, Sadie Wells
of Aurora and paternal great grandmother, Rose Cooley of Loveland, OH. He was
preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Sylvia Good.
Mr. Good was a graduate of LeJune High School, CA, and employed by ResCare and
was a student at Ivy Tech, Lawrenceburg.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 1 from 5-8 p.m. EDT at the Ulrich
Filter Funeral Home, Dillsboro. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September
2 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Oakdale Cemetery,
Dillsboro. Memorials may be made to the Dillsboro Emergency Unit.

Albert Louis Baer
Albert Louis Baer, 73, of Aurora, died Friday, August 20, 2004 at the Dearborn
County Hospital, Lawrenceburg. He was born February 17, 1931 in Aurora, the
son of Edward T. Baer and Lulu Cosby. He married Joyce Bradley and she survives
in Aurora.
Other survivors include three sisters, Esther Lows of Milan, Barbara Johnson
of Ft. Myers, FL and Frances Cornelius of Yuma, AR. He was preceded in death
by wife Wilda R. Baer.
Mr. Baer was employed by the Dearborn County Hospital for 18 years and was a
self-employed carpenter. He served in the Air Force from July 13, 1951 to March
19, 1957.
Graveside funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, August 24 at 11 a.m.
at the Riverview Cemetery, Aurora. Memorials may be made to the Aurora or Dillsboro
Emergency Units.

Alma E. Welling
Alma E. Welling, 97, of Greensburg, died Thursday, August 19, 2004 at the Heritage
House Nursing Home, Greensburg. She was born August 28, 1906 in Batesville
the daughter of Frank Brickner and Catherine (Hitte) Brickner. She married
Leo Welling on September 1, 1928 at Sacred Heart Church in Indianapolis and
he preceded her in death on July 24, 1977.
Survivors include one sister, Ruth Stout of Indianapolis and several nieces,
nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by one sister, Rose Sullivan.
Mrs. Welling was a retired factory worker and a member of the St. Anne's Catholic
Church.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 23 at 11 a.m. at St. Anne's Catholic
Church with Rev. Elmer Burwinkle officiating. Burial was in the St. Anne's Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Anne's Church.

Bernard R. Teaney
Bernard T. Teaney, 83, of Dillsboro, died Saturday, August 21, 2004 at the Dearborn
County Hospital, Lawrenceburg. He was born October 18, 1920 in Aurora the son
of George D. Teaney and Carrie Garloch. He married Mabel Ochs and she preceded
him in death.
Survivors include five nephews, Michael Teaney of Aurora, Jerry Teaney of Dillsboro,
Jerry, Michael Steve Ochs all of Moores Hill, two nieces, Carla Blair of Moores
Hill, Suzanne Ochs Lasky of Dalton, GA and one brother, Earl Teaney of Aurora.
Mr. Teaney was a 1939 graduate of Aurora High School, retired from Stedmans Foundry
after 42 years of service, was the former mayor of Aurora, the past president
of Aurora Rotary and Paul Harris Fellow, a member of the Aurora Lions Club, a
62 year member of Aurora Lodge #51 F. &A.M., member of the Murat Temple of
Indianapolis, lifetime member of Southeastern Indiana Shrine Club of Dillsboro,
member of the Scottish Rite 32 Degree and a member of the Keith Ross Chapter
American Legion Post #231 of Aurora. He was an accountant and served in the US
Army.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 24 from 5-8 p.m. at the Filter Funeral
Home in Aurora with Masonic services to be held at 8 p.m. Funeral services will
be held Wednesday, August 25 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be
in the Oakdale Cemetery, Dillsboro with military graveside rites conducted by
the Keith Ross American Legion Post #231, Aurora.
Memorials may be given to the Aurora or Dillsboro Emergency Units.
Dan Thane Sharp
Dan Thane Sharp, 51, of Osgood, died Sunday, August 22, 2004 at Dearborn County
Hospital in Lawrenceburg. He was born December 29, 1952 at Tooele, Utah the
son of Thorthane Sharp & Loretta Newkirk and they survive. He married Edwina
Bernice Hall and she also survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Jesse Harold and Jason Daniel Sharp, both
at home, Dan Thane Sharp, Jr. of Santa Rosa, CA, two daughters, Misty Lynne Perze
of Santa Rosa, CA, Rhiannon Rebecca Roxie Sharp at home, four brothers, Billy
Davidson of Fernley, NV, Ken Davidson of Canon City, CO, Glenn DeSimon of Canon
City, CO, Lonnie Numes of Fallon, NV and five grandchildren. He was preceded
in death by one daughter Angel Sharp.
Graveside funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, August 24 at Little Memory
Cemetery in Sunman.

David Cecil Hankins
David Cecil "Slim" Hankins, 67, of Rising Sun, died Saturday, August
21, 2004 in Cincinnati. He was born October 6, 1936 in Switzerland County the
son of the late David Hankins and the late Eva Davis Hankins.
Survivors include his wife, Susan E. Hankins of Rising Sun; son Chris Hankins
of Vevay; daughter, Patricia Richardson of Madison; two brothers, George Hankins
of Vevay, Donnie Hankins of Rising Sun; five sisters, Emme McDole of Vevay, Mabel
Carver of Aurora, Reba Hankins of Aurora, Helen Davies of Milan and Susie Scarber
of Milan.
Mr. Hankins was a member of the Coonhunters Club Bear Creek in Versailles and
worked as a mechanic and was the owner operator of Hankins & Sons.
Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, August 24 at 11 a.m. (fast time)
at Rullman-Hunger-Denney Funeral Home, with Pastor Howard Wade officiating. Burial
will follow in the Bennington Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.

Gartenman Sr.
Ivan George Gartenman, Sr., 72, of Morris, died Sunday, August 22, 2004 at his
residence. He was born April 28, 1932 in Ripley County near Penntown the son
of Leonard and Christina (Haven) Gartenman. He was married to Mary Ellen Biddle
on June 9, 1956 in Penntown and she preceded him in death on September 30, 1987.
Survivors include one son, Ivan Gartenman Jr. and wife Cindy of Batesville, one
daughter, Sandra Weiler and husband Martin of Batesville, six grandchildren,
two brothers, David Gartenman of Yorkville and Alvin Gartenman of Brookville.
Mr. Gartenman retired in 1966 as a truck driver for Batesville Casket for 36
years. He was a US Army veteran during Korea. He was a member of the American
Legion Post #271 and VFW Post 3183, both of Batesville.
Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, August 24 from 4-8 p.m. at Meyers Funeral
Home, Batesville. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 25 at 10 a.m.
at the funeral home with Rev. Charles Flory officiating. Burial will be in the
Rossburg Cemetery with military graveside rites.
Memorials may be given to the Margaret Mary Hospital Hospice.

Munchel-Fischer
Kathryn E. Munchel-Fischer, 87, of Indianapolis, formerly of Oldenburg, died
Wednesday, August 18, 2004 at St. Vincent's Hospice in Indianapolis. She was
born December 10, 1916 in Oldenburg the daughter of Theodor Heidlage and Olivia
Scheidler Heidlage, both deceased. She married Alvin Munchel and he preceded
her in death in 1961. She then married Frank Fischer and he also preceded her
in death in 1976.
Survivors include three daughters, Peggy Rudberg of Ann Arbor, MI, Ellen (Rex)
Camp of Indianapolis, Jane (Michael) Connor of Hailey, ID, one son, Gerry (Holly)
Munchel of Ithaca, NY, three step-daughters, Carol Tetrick of Indianapolis, Joyce
Pope of Greenfield, Joan Morgan of St. Paul, two brothers, Robert Heidlage of
Connersville, Rev. Benno Heidlage O.F.M. of Oldenburg, seven grandchildren, one
great-grandchild and ten step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one
daughter, Mary Munchel, one son, James Munchel and two brothers, Rev. Aldric
Heidlage O.F.M. and Carl Heidlage.
Mrs. Fischer was a teacher first teaching kindergarten at Holy Family Church
when it opened. She was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Indianapolis,
founder of the Girl Scouts in Oldenburg and was also a former member of the Holy
Family Church.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 21, 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church
in Oldenburg with Rev. Benno Heidlage O.F.M. and Rev. John Turnbull O.F.M. officiating.
Burial was in the Holy Family Cemetery. Memorials may go to the St. Joseph Indian

Mary Louise Gunter
Mary Louise Gunter, 88, of Holton, passed away Friday, August 20, 2004 at her
residence in Holton. She was born in Lebanon, Kentucky on January 29, 1916
the daughter of James and Berthinee Lanom Simpson. She was married to Charles
Gunter on August 11, 1934 and he preceded her in death.
She is survived by four sons, Roy of Holton, Willis of Butlerville, Gene of North
Vernon, Ray of Holton; three daughters, Lonnie Taylor of Holton, Susan Rice of
Holton, Brenda Sandlin of Butlerville; twenty-two grandchildren and thirty-one
great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Gunter was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sons Robert, James,
Charles, Daniel and her daughter, Linda Hurst, six brothers, two sisters, one
grandchild and one great grandchild.
She was a member of the Holton Wesleyan Church and a homemaker.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 23 at 10:30 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter
Funeral Home in Versailles.
Memorials may be made to the Holton Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
Naomi Jean Brunner
Naomi Jean Brunner, 79, of North Carolina, died Sunday, August 22, 2004 at her
residence. She was born May 8, 1925 in Osgood, the daughter of Luke and Lula
Reynolds. She married Tilford Brunner and he survives.
Other survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Todd E. and Karen Brunner
of Pilot Mountain, NC, Mark L. and Terry Lynn Brunner of Virginia Beach, VA;
one grandson, Troy Brunner; one granddaughter, Megan Brunner; two sisters, Wilma
Day of Osgood and Ruth Blake of Indianapolis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Robert E. Reynolds,
Garnet Moody, and Francis Moody; four sisters, Patricia Ann Olds, Violet McKowen,
Virginia Taylor and Alvina Wooley.
Mrs. Brunner was a homemaker. She graduated from Osgood High School in 1943 and
had worked in various businesses in Osgood as well as a bomber riveter in Michigan
during WWII. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pilot Mountain and
First Baptist Church of Osgood.
Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church, 308 W. Main St., Pilot Mountain,
NC, 27041 or First Baptist Church in Osgood.

Rhoda Davis
Rhoda Davis, 94, of Lawrenceburg, formerly of Holton passed away Sunday, August
23, 2004 at the Pine Knoll Assisted Living Center in Lawrenceburg. She was
born at Sexton Creek in Clay County, Kentucky on January 10, 1910, the daughter
of Marian and Sarah Jane Allen Baker. She was married to Calhoun Davis on August
21, 1933 and he preceded her in death on January 6, 2001.
Mrs. Davis was a homemaker and had also worked at the Delaney Wood Heel Factory
in Versailles.
Survivors include one son, Ronald Davis and wife Susan of Lawrenceburg; one daughter,
Janice Winn of Miami Lakes, FL; one grandson, David Winn and his wife Traci of
Miami Shores, FL; and one granddaughter Darcey Winn of Miami Lakes, FL; one great
granddaughter, Madison Winn; one sister Edith McIntosh of Fairfield, OH; three
brothers, Hiram Baker of Versailles, Edward Baker of Cincinnati, and Clayton
Baker of Bloomington. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, David
Baker and her sisters Sudie Reed and Thelma Dunn.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 26 at 11 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter
Funeral Home, Versailles with Rev. Richard McClure of the First Baptist Church
of Dillsboro officiating. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles.
Visitation will be Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Memorials
may be given to the Hospice of Dearborn County or the ABY of the First Baptist

Fehrman (Walke)
Lorine C. Fehrman (Walke), 86, of Cleves, OH, died Thursday, August 12, 2004
at The Waters of Batesville. She was born April 12, 1918 in Decatur County the
daughter of Raymond Lamping and Bernadette Eckel Lamping, both deceased. She
married Harry Fehrman in 1938 in Reading, Ohio and he preceded her in death in
1977. She then married Allie Walke on July 10, 1982 in North Bend, OH and he
survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Judy Lambert, Karen Linneman and Shelly
Williamson, all of Cleves, OH, on step-daughter, Victoria Scheele of Oldenburg,
one son, Samuel Fehrman of Cleves, OH, one step-son, Kenneth "Butch" Walke
of Napoleon, two sisters, Doris Gritz and Esther Young, both of Mt. Healthy,
OH, one brother, George Lamping of Brookville, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Fehrman, one brother, Raymond Lamping
and two grandchildren.
Mrs. Walke was a homemaker and a member of the Holy Family Church.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 14, 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic
Church in Oldenburg with Rev. John Turnbull, O.F.M. officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery. Memorials may go to the Miami Township Fire
Department #2.

(Hallgarth) Webster
Helen Mae (Hallgarth) Webster, 86, of Greensburg, formerly
of Vevay, died Sunday,
August 15, 2004 at Columbus Health & Rehabilitation. She was born March 31,
1918 in Cross Plains the daughter of Vaughn Hallgarth and Ann Myrtle Belle Kinnett
Hallgarth, both deceased. She first married Ora Lanham. She later married Floyd
Sanford Webster on March 30, 1940 and he preceded her in death on January 20,
1969.
Survivors include two sons, Gerald Loyd Webster and wife Sarah of Columbus, Junior
Lee Webster of Hollywood, FL, two daughters, Anna Belle Smith and husband Richard
of Columbus, Linda Dianne Meyer of Terre Haute, nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren,
three sisters, Aldean Demaree of Dillsboro, Hattie Andrews of Wisconsin, Evelyn
Huntington of Osgood, one half sister, Margaret Clayton of Holton, three half
brothers, Jackie Gene Hallgarth and David Hallgarth of Lovett, TX, Durwin Hallgarth
of Hanover, several nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in
death by three brothers, Robert, Loyd and Clayton Hallgarth and two half sisters,
Virginia Prickett and Elizabeth Ann Hallgarth.
Mrs. Webster was a homemaker. She was also a member of the Long Run Baptist Church
near Moorefield and attended the Baptist Church wherever she lived.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 17, 5-8 p.m. (slow time) at Haskell & Morrison
Funeral Home in Vevay.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 18, 11 a.m. (slow time) at the
funeral home with Rev. Reuben DeBoard officiating.
Burial will be in the Vevay Cemetery. Memorials may go to the American Heart
Association or Arthritis Foundation.
Melvin D. Chipman
Melvin D. Chipman, 69, of Dillsboro, died Thursday, August 12, 2004 at Dearborn
County Hospital in Lawrenceburg. He was born May 12, 1935 in Milton the son
of Curtis Chipman and Geneva Walker, both deceased.
Survivors include two daughters, Beverly Champe of Dillsboro, Brenda (Chipman)
Sniegowski of Dillsboro, three granddaughters, Jessica Combs of Aurora, Samantha
Sniegowski of Dillsboro, Lora Rotman of Phoenix, AZ, two sisters, Janice Chipman
and Sharon Moses of Aurora and one brother, Ivan Chipman of Aurora.
Mr. Chipman was a painter and the former operator of Mel's Diner in Aurora.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial
will be in the Oakdale Cemetery in Dillsboro.
Memorials may go to the Dillsboro Emergency Unit Building Fund. Ulrich-Filter

Betty L. Coyle
Betty L. Coyle, 77, of McCordsville died Tuesday, August 3, 2004 at her residence.
She was born in Milan on March 6, 1927 to Jethro and Edna Borders, both deceased.
She married James A. Coyle and he survives.
Other survivors include son Steven Dicus, sisters, Elinor Bielanowski, Janice
Nolan, Joan Humphrey, Walter Borders and Edgar Tye, stepchildren, Connie Taylor,
Dan and Monte Coyle, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Mrs. Coyle worked at Western Electric for 31 years before retiring in 1981.
Funeral services were held on August 6 at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center,
Washington Park East. Burial was in the Washington Park East Cemetery.
Clifford Wahman
Clifford Wahman, 83, of Osgood, died Monday, August 9, 2004 at Decatur County
Memorial Hospital in Greensburg. He was born May 29, 1921 in Oldenburg the
son of August and Mary Droppleman Wahman, both deceased.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers,
Raymond and Robert Wahman and five sisters, Edna Cramer, Marie Gressley, Elsie
Drake, Colette Rode and Romilda Wahman.
Mr. Wahman was a WWII Army veteran. He belonged to the Keene Henneke VFW Post
of Napoleon and also the St. Maurice Catholic Church in Napoleon. He farmed all
of his life.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 11, 10-11 a.m. at St. Maurice Catholic
Church in Napoleon.
Funeral services will follow visitation at the church. Burial will be in the
church cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Keene Henneke
VFW Post of Napoleon and the Wm. A. Gilland American Legion Post of Osgood.

Keithly
Dolly D. Hardesty Keithly, 79, of Seymour died Saturday, August 7, 2004 at the
Lutheran Community Home, Seymour. She was born March 26, 1925 in Ripley County
the daughter of Matt and Ruby Alexander Williams. She married Wallace R. Hardesty
on June 17, 1942 in Ripley County and he preceded her in death on May 5, 1966.
She later married William Keithly and he preceded her in death in 2002.
Survivors include Larry P. (Lynn) Hardesty of AZ, Becky (Alvin) Ames of Indianapolis,
Patty (Bob) Wineneke, KY, Steve (Priscilla) Hardesty of Seymour, seven grandchildren,
eight great grandchildren, two stepchildren, Dick Keithly and Shirley Hutchenson
both of Brownstown and several step grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and eight brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 10 at Voss Chapel, Seymour from 4-8 p.m.
and Wednesday, after 9:30 a.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August
11 at 10:30 a.m. at Voss Chapel with Rev. D. G. Morris officiating. Burial will
be in the Riverview Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

the daughter of Charles Green and Clara Lehmkueler Green. She married Sam Adams
on June 15, 1959 in Kalamazoo, MI and he preceded her in death.
Survivors include one sister-in-law, Ruth Green of Batesville, friend and caregiver,
Lillian Powell of Batesville, four nieces and nephews, nine great nieces and
nephews, nine great-great nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Adams was a member of the St. Mark's Church. She wrote and published a music
theory textbook, An Introduction to Musical Understanding and Musicianship, which
became a standard teaching aid in universities across the country. She was a
professor of music at Western Michigan University for 30 years before retiring
in 1975. She was also a member of the College Music Society, Music Educators
National Conference, Music Teachers National Association and Sigma Alpha Iota.
Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, August 10 at 11 a.m. at Weigel
Funeral Home, Batesville with Rev. David Smith officiating. Burial will be in
the St. Mark's Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the St. Mark's Music Program
or the Sam and Ethel Adams Vocal Music Scholarship Fund.
Hiram Poore, Jr.
Hiram Poore, Jr., 71, of Milan, died Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at Margaret Mary
Community Hospital in Batesville. He was born July 31, 1933 in Cincinnati,
OH the son of Hiram S. and Nancy E. Combs Poore, Sr., both deceased. He married
Delores Vogel Poore on November 20, 1954 and she survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Diane (Rodney) Cole of Lawrenceburg, Teresa
Cole of Lawrenceburg, one daughter-in-law, Vicky Poore of Memphis, one brother,
Kenneth Poore of Milan, one sister, Mrs. William (Freda) Kaiser of Milan and
five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Wayne Poore, one brother
and one sister.
Mr. Poore was retired from Thatcher Glass in Lawrenceburg. He had served in the
Indiana National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserves. He was also a member of the
Anchor Glass Retiree's Club and the National Rifle Association.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 7, 10 a.m. at St. John's Church at
Hubbles Corner near Sunman with Rev. Dr. Daniel Nugent officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery. Memorials may go to Rescue 30 or St. John's
Building Fund.

John A. McAdams
John A. McAdams, 77, of Moores Hill, died Sunday, August 8, 2004 at the Dearborn
County Hospital, Lawrenceburg. He was born April 25, 1927 in Lawrenceburg the
son of John J. and Bessie Frances (Fryman) McAdams. He married Della McMurray
on August 2, 1947 and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Kenneth (Nancy) McAdams of Milan, Dennis (June)
McAdams of Versailles, daughter, Lillian Frances (Dennis) Banks of Moores Hill,
sister, Phyllis Miller of LA, five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother Jess McAdams, sisters, Betty Taylor,
Luella Smith and Lillian Baldwin.
Mr. McAdams retired from Pierce and Hollowell in Greendale. Mr. McAdams was a
surgical technician serving in the army in WWII and was a member of the Moores
Hill Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 11 from 10-12 noon at Sibbett-Moore
Funeral Home, Moores Hill. Funeral services will follow visitation at 12 noon
on Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. Harris Long officiating. Burial will
be in the Forest Hill Cemetery, Moores Hill with military graveside rites conducted
by the Moores Hill American Legion Post #209.

Joseph F. Johnston
Joseph F. Johnston, 56, of Milan, died Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at the Dearborn
County Hospital, Lawrenceburg. He was born August 17, 1947 in Waynesboro, PA
the son of William Johnston and Gertrude (Funk) Johnston.
Survivors include his father, William Johnston of Payson, AZ, two sons, Matthew
Johnston and Michael Johnston both of Vevay, and one daughter, Katie and husband
Nathan Bailey of Milan. He was preceded in death by his mother Gertrude Johnston
and one brother, David Johnston.
Mr. Johnston was a 1965 graduate of Rineon High School and a 1969 graduate of
the University of AZ. He was an engineer at the Magma Copper Company in San Manuel,
AZ and attended the Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ in Rising Sun.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 7 at 10 a.m. with Brother Beau Vanderbur
officiating. Burial was in the Rising Sun New Cemetery in Rising Sun. Memorials
may be made to the American Lung Association or the Pleasant Ridge Church of
Christ.

Mary E. Luck
Mary E. Luck, 63, of Shelbyville, died Tuesday, August 3, 2004 at Methodist Hospital,
Indianapolis. She was born October 25, 1949 in Milan the daughter of Leroy
H. and Anna J. (Gribbon) Edens. She married John Luck on June 11, 1960 and
he survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Randy Luck of Indianapolis, Darren Luck of
Shelbyville, one daughter, Rene¥ Fleming of Queen Creek, AZ, two brothers,
Leroy Edens of Indianapolis, Joseph Edens of Milan, five sisters, twin Martha
Miller of Shelbyville, Anna June English of Indianapolis, Vera Craney of Topeka,
KS, Wilma Hess of Morgantown and Barbara Wilson of Fortville, and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Edens and John Ray Edens and
one sister Virginia Fortune.
Mrs. Luck had been a librarian assistant at Shelbyville Middle School and was
employed at Shelbyville Shelby County Public Library. She formerly was a Title
One aide and teacher's assistant in several elementary schools in the Shelbyville
Central School System.
Mrs. Luck was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 7 at 10 a.m. at the First Church
of the Nazarene with Rev. Steve Bohall officiating. Burial was in the Forest

Neva (Riley) Mellen
Neva (Riley) Mellen, 90, of Vevay, died Saturday, August 7, 2004 at the Swiss
Villa Living Center, Vevay. She was born July 17, 1914 in Graves County, KY
the daughter of Jonah Melbourne Riley and Mollie Riley Riley. She married William
Oscar Mellen on August 11, 1935 and he preceded her in death on August 6, 1988.
Survivors include one daughter, June Waller and husband William of Aurora, four
grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, one
sister, Ruby Markland of Vevay, several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister, Nell Ramage.
Mrs. Mellen worked for eight years as a stitcher at US Shoe in Vevay. She was
a member of the Markland Baptist Church near Markland and a 50-year member of
the Bennington Order of Eastern Star #107 and the Tapps Ridge Homemaker's Club.
Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, August 10 at 1 p.m. at the Haskell & Morrison
Funeral Home, Vevay with Rev. Mike Fuhrman and Pastor C. Martin Justice officiating.
Burial will be in the Vevay Cemetery.

Thomas P. "Tom" Maddox, 61, of Madison, died Monday, July 26, 2004
at his residence. He was born October 30, 1942 in Louisville, KY the son of John
R. Maddox and Agatha Mae (Powell) Maddox and they preceded him in death.
Graveside funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, August 10 at 11 a.m.
at the Forest Hill Cemetery, Moores Hill with Pastor C. Martin Justice officiating.

Virginia G. Asche
Virginia G. Asche, 76, of Birmingham, AL, and formerly of Rockport, IN, died
Sunday, August 8, 2004.
She was born on July 13, 1928 in Southern Indiana and lived most of her life
there. She was a homemaker as well as having a 38-year working career with General
Electric in Tell City, IN. She moved to Birmingham, AL in 2001to live with her
daughter and to be close to other family members.
She was married to Herbert L. Ellsworth on May 15, 1946. They had two children:
Constance Elaine Matthews of Birmingham; and Herbert, Jr. of Corona, CA. Four
grandchildren Bridget Keeling of Evansville, IN; Brian Ellsworth of Austin, TX;
David Matthews, Jr. of Decatur, AL; and Carrie Higginbotham of Birmingham, AL;
and four great grandchildren. She was later married to Irvin B. Asche of Osgood,
IN
She was preceded in death by her husbands; her parents George and Nancy Gentry;
five sisters, and three brothers.
Mrs. Asche was an active member of the Indian Springs Baptist Church.
Visitation will be at the Southern Heritage Funeral Home on August 10, from 5
- 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the Southern Heritage chapel at 10:00
a.m. the following Wednesday morning. A graveside service and burial will be
in Rockport, IN on Friday, August 13.

Ernest Clift, Sr., 70, of Holton, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at Methodist
Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born April 11, 1934 in Addyston, OH the son
of John Clift and Elizabeth (Grin) Clift, both deceased. He married Barbara
(Loos) Clift on March 19, 1955 in Addyston, OH and she survives.
Other survivors include, two sons, Ernest Clift, Jr. and wife Tina of Osgood,
Ben Clift and wife Camilla of Columbus, five daughters, Rita (Clift) Seaver of
Moores Hill, Sheila Osoffsky and husband Harris of Louisville, KY, Tammy Pickett
and husband Richard of Versailles, Kathy Tanner and husband Sonny of Greenwood,
Molly Manis and husband Scott of Osgood, two brothers, William Clift of Maryland,
Raymond Clift of Lyle, WA, four sisters, Clara Branam of Harrison, OH, Edwina
Sturgeon of Cincinnati, OH, Martha Snow of Harrison, OH, Linda Bauer of Cleves,
OH, sixteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in
death by one daughter, Sara Clift, three sisters, Donna Fleming, Pam Vite, Ida
Lacey and two brothers, Johnny Clift and Fred Clift.
Mr. Clift was a farmer, ironworker and also a handyman.

Harold E. Scudder
Harold E. Scudder, 79, of Vevay, near Pleasant, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004
at King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison. He was born February 26, 1925 in
Switzerland County the son of Everett Scudder and Volette M. (Rogers) Scudder,
both deceased. He married Juanita P. (Swango) Scudder on July 11, 1947 and
she survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Sharon Chandler and husband Roger of
Madison, Bonnie Browning and husband Dicky of Pleasant, Janice Lembach and husband
Creighton of Elk Grove, CA, two sons, Eugene Scudder and wife Mary Lou of Bennington,
Bobby Scudder and wife Debbie of Cross Plains, one great-grandson he was raising,
Christopher Konkle of Pleasant, one sister, Irene Stewart and husband Charles
David of Madison, fourteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and several
nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Mr. Scudder was a farmer for 43 years raising tobacco, hay and cattle. He attended
the Brookville Flea Market, Rushville Horse Sale and Liar's Club.
Funeral services were held Sunday, August 1, 2 p.m. at Haskell & Morrison
Funeral Home in Vevay with Rev. Howard Wade officiating.

(Shag) Pickett, Sr.
Larry (Shag) Pickett, Sr., 61, of the Flat Rock community near Osgood, passed
away Saturday, July 31, 2004 at the Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg.
He was born near Osgood on October 22, 1942 the son of Robert and Zelma Baldwin
Pickett. He was married to Carmen Jackson on March 13, 1987 and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Larry Pickett, Jr. and Dennis Bushhorn, Jr.,
both of Osgood, four daughters, Lori Voegele and her fiancÈ Roger Eckstein
of Enochsburg, Joy Pickett-Zapfe of Osgood, Heidi Lovins and her husband Steve
of Aurora, Maggie Pickett at home, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren,
mother-in-law, Carolyn Schmidt of Guilford, father-in-law, John Jackson of Lake
City, TN, three sisters, Eileen Levell of Daleville, Maxine Young and husband
Alvin of Osgood, Evelyn Hull and Milton of Columbus, and sister-in-law, Clara
Hull of Greensburg. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother,
Elvan.
Mr. Pickett was a 1960 graduate of Napoleon High School and was a member of the
Union Flat Rock Baptist Church. He was a 37 year employee of Cummins Engine retiring
in 1999. He was also a member of the ABATE of Indiana, Sons of the American Legion
of Osgood, Amvets of Osgood and was currently serving on the board of directors
at the Holton Community Water Corporation.
Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, August 3 at 11 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter
Funeral Home in Versailles.

Martha Catherine Batta, 80, of Ripley Crossing in Milan, formerly of Sunman,
died Friday, July 30, 2004 at Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg. She was
born November 17, 1923 near Millhousen the daughter of Louis and Theresta Menkedick
Moorman, both deceased. She married Richard B. Batta on May 11, 1949 at the Immaculate
Conception Church in Millhousen and he survives.
Other survivors include one daughter, Mary Jane Fussner of St. Peter's, one daughter
and son-in-law, Karen and David Anderson of Sunman, five sons and daughters-in-law,
George and Sue Batta of St. Leon, David and Joyce Batta of Dillsboro, Daniel
and Janelle Batta of Sunman, Roger and Diane Batta of Sunman, Nicholas and Faith
Batta of Batesville, two sisters, Alma Schwering of Westport, Lucille (Tom) Braun
of Greensburg, three brothers, Lawrence Moorman of Greensburg, Carl (Ellen) Moorman
of Millhousen, Ralph (Mary) Moorman of Hamburg, twenty-nine grandchildren and
seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Richard Fussner, one granddaughter,
Valarie Batta, three sisters, Stella Scheidler, Mary Yager and Eileen Schebler
and one brother, Walter Moorman.
Mrs. Batta was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Peter's Church, St. Peter's
PCCW, St. Peter's Tip Toppers Home Ec Club, Diamond Squares and the North Dearborn
Senior Citizens.

Peter's Church with Rev. Humbert Moster officiating.

Richard August Laker
Richard August Laker, 94, of Batesville, died Sunday, August 1, 2004 at the Waters
of Batesville. He was born March 31, 1910 at St. Mary in Franklin County the
son of Anthony and Mary (Scheele) Laker, both deceased. He married Virginia
Harmeyer at St. Mary of the Rock Church on May 6, 1939 and she survives in
Batesville.
Other survivors include three daughters, Joan (James) Woodman of North Branford,
CT, Marianne (Gerald) Freese of Cincinnati, OH, Alice (Joseph) Robb of Goodrich,
MI, two sons, Dennis (Ruth) Laker of Phonexville, PA, Ronald Laker of Tampa,
FL, one sister, Mathilda Harmeyer of Connersville, sixteen grandchildren and
nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Clarence Laker.
Mr. Laker was retired from Union Furniture Co. in Batesville as a cabinet maker
in 1975 after 40 years. He was also a member of St. Louis Church and the Knights
of St. John.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 6, 5-8 p.m. at Meyers Funeral Home in
Batesville.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, August 7, 10:30 a.m. at St. Louis
Church with Fr. Daniel Mahan officiating.

Rosemary "Rosie" Wallpe, 73, of Batesville, died
Saturday, July 31, 2004 at Heritage House Nursing Home in
Greensburg. She was born December 10,
1930 in Decatur County the daughter of Charles Burkhart and Theresa Hessler Burkhart,
both deceased. She married James Wallpe on September 6, 1952 at St. Mary's Church
in Greensburg and he survives in Batesville.
Other survivors include three daughters, Connie Wuestefeld of Batesville, Carolyn "Susie" Schwegman
of Greensburg, Rita Meyer of Oldenburg, one son, Scott Wallpe of Greensburg,
one sister, Louella Feldman of Indianapolis, four brothers, Joe Burkhart of Greensburg,
Tom Burkhart of Hixson, TN, Ed Burkhart of Greensburg, Bill Burkhart of Greensburg
and ten grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Wallpe.
Mrs. Wallpe was a secretary at Farm Bureau Insurance before retiring. She was
also a member of St. Louis Church, Daughters of Isabella and St. Louis Ladies
Society.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 5 from 4-7 p.m. with rosary services
being held at 6 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 6, 10 a.m. at St. Louis Church with
Rev. Christiaan Kappes officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may go to the Alzheimer's Association.
William L. Hankins
William L. Hankins, 79, of Cross Plains, passed away Sunday, August 1, 2004 at
the Thornton Terrace in Hanover. He was born near Canaan on September 7, 1924
the son of William F. and Myrtle Daleglish Hankins.
Mr. Hankins was employed for 38 years as a sales clerk for McAlpins in Cincinnati
and was a member of the Cross Plains Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sisters, Esther Hoffman of Canaan, Freeda Hansmann of
Versailles, Maxine Roberts of Kent, along with several nieces and nephews. He
was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Mitchell, Loren and David Hankins
and his sisters, Marjorie Mathews, Lela Elston and Lauretta Fleek.
Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, August 3 from 5-8 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter
Funeral Home in Versailles.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 4, 11 a.m. at the funeral home
with Rev. Pete Sinclair of the Cross Plains Baptist Church officiating.
Burial will be in the Grandview Memorial Gardens near Madison. Memorials may
be given to the Cross Plains Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
Woodrow McGee
Woodrow McGee, 91, of Cross Plains, passed away Monday, August 2, 2004 at Madison.
