The genealogy room contains marriage and cemetery indexes for Jennings County. There are Indiana census records, various registers, some county histories for the State of Indiana and some war registers. Also available are several self-published local histories. The collection of individual family histories is constantly growing. Items in the genealogy room do not circulate.

Some of the family histories have multiple families but in some cases not all the surnames listed
in a such a book are listed in the catalog if there has been only brief mention of a family in the book.

County records
Marriage, Wills, and Land Records Find marriages, wills, and certain court records at the county clerk's office in the Jennings County Courthouse in Vernon, Indiana. (2 miles south of North Vernon on Hwys. 3&7). This office is open Mon.-Fri., 8:00-4:00 p.m., (812) 352-3070. Land records can be found at the county recorder's office in the Jennings County Courthouse Annex. The annex is a new building similar in style to the courthouse, located across the street from the courthouse in Vernon, Indiana, 1 block north of Hwy.7 on Brown St. The recorder's office is open Mon.-Fri., 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., (812) 352-3053. Birth and Death Records Find these at the Health Dept. in the Jennings County Courthouse Annex. (Location described directly above). It is open Mon.-Fri., 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., (812) 352-3024. |
